78/100A polished, but rather generic story with excellent delivery. A short and sweet read.Continue on AniListSpoiler Free
I wouldn't say this manga is anything special, but it is pretty good. It starts off rather generic, introducing some some rather trope-y characters with a less than unique story. The first couple chapters were a bit of slug, because the characters weren't introduced the best, but the moment passed quick enough that with a quick shot of development smoothed the rocky start and gave it a path to travel on.
Especially in the beginning, there was a lot of growth seen throughout the chapters, and I'd say that most of it ended up falling on Amano. You ended up seeing rather stark changes to her between the chapters, that had a lasting impact on her character. Outside of Amano though, you didn't see too much development, and I think a more balanced model where some of that development was given to other characters might've worked a bit better. You could say that the story was about a perfect boy and a flawed girl, but I'm not sure if I'd agree. There were a lot of issues with Kuga that were just taken in stride and accepted compared to some of the issues with Amano that were "fixed", save a couple left behind so the character didn't become anemic.
The character development was by no means perfect, but I think it ended up working well with the pacing. It didn't take years for anything to happen, but it still managed to employ a level of suspense without resorting to a big tragedy or a long monologue between any of the characters. It was short, sweet, and punched when it needed to. The place where it probably lacked was in the development of any characters but the mains. We never saw the story outside of the two it focused on. The level of tunnel vision it kept kind of sucked, because some characters were kept just so it didn't feel empty, but it almost made it worse knowing nothing about characters whose name I knew and face I could recognize.
Visually it wasn't anything special but it did look nice. For the most part it had reasonably detailed backgrounds, with great character models. None of them looked to similar and most of them had their own styles. They were rather expressive in the faces, which helped deliver some funny moments, but outside of this I couldn't think of much that wowed me.
Overall, I enjoyed it. While it was nothing unique it excelled in delivery and overall had a polish of "pretty great". I think the author also managed to deliver some of their struggles writing through Amano, which was an interesting take, while managing to make the story a bit less generic. Then again I could just be reading a little too far in to it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a decent feel-good rom-com, that expects nothing more.
