35/100Downfall of Tokyo GhoulContinue on AniList_"At this point it's not even worth talking about"_ (May contain spoilers for previous seasons)
It started in summer 2014 with the first adaptation of [Tokyo Ghoul Manga](https://anilist.co/manga/63327/Tokyo-Ghoul/) airing. The anime remained faithful to the manga and the story itself was interesting combined with some gore and it attracted a large audience and ratings were good too. Both manga readers and anime only watchers were happy. Then came the √A. Now in the first season they had 12 episode and serialized about 50 chapters of manga that is good. But in second season they still went with 12 episode series but decided to finish it there. Now the options were either to compress 94 chapters in 12 episodes or change the story and omit some details and they went with the later which left the manga readers furious. Fast forward 3 years, in spring 2018 came the adaptation of [tokyo ghoul:re ](https://anilist.co/manga/85611/Tokyo-Ghoulre/), now the RE manga itself was a bit tricky because fight scenes were not very well drawn and for some reason the author decided to revive every dead character. Now the anime adaptation decided to completely forget about the √A and assume that everyone has read the manga which was definitely not the case and this time it left every anime only watcher confused and scratching their head because they don't know most of the things that happened in the second half of the Tokyo Ghoul which Studio Pierrot decided to throw in dump. And finally 4 years later after the starting of Tokyo Ghoul we've reached the bottom of the pit after descending every level for 4 seasons. That's right I'm talking about the Tokyo Ghoul:re season 2. Now with this one they had the same situation as in √A either follow the manga by compressing it or write it on your own like they did in √A. But they thought hey we've already done the later now lets try the former and not much to say they failed miserably. This time they somehow managed to make both manga readers and anime only watchers angry, confused and disappointed. Anime only watchers didn't even know what was going on half the season and manga readers were very disappointed with the terrible pacing. Story: 4/10 (Just read the manga if you're curious about the story) The story does follow the manga but at the same time it doesn't with almost every detail getting omitted which leaves characters as hollow as 1 dimensional objects with no development at all. Characters: 1/10 There is no character development. WIth almost every character getting revived we have about 3 times more characters than episodes which leaves no development to anyone at all. Sound: 5/10 Only the OP by TK was good, rest of the osts were of the same quality as the anime. Animation: 6/10 The animations were pretty ok compared to the previous season. Overall: It's like a disappointment which everyone predicted and it came out to be just that way. FalconDreamer
68/100Tokyo Ghoul has a lot to give and show despite sometimes lacking consistency and sense in the storyline.Continue on AniList(this review is about not only TG re S2 but also the other previous anime seasons)
Tokyo Ghoul
After rewatching all the seasons of this anime. It was very nostalgic since it was the first anime i watched. Im still impressed by how many thoughts the anime was able to show to us with Ken Kaneki - i guess it was expected with 4 seasons. Even tho lot of people will say that anime went downhill after season 1 (i agree) i still think that if you werent just crying about that. You could still learn a lot of stuff thanks to Kanekis journey through the anime. For example showing amazing will to fight even after breaking completely multiple times. The only thing i wish for still that the anime had more stable storyline and that it wouldnt have such a big holes in the storyline - sometimes it really felt like it is going nowhere without any point. I was also trying to compare it to parasyte and what they did in same or similar way - came to conclusion that it would be focusing on human actions being sometimes highly affected by their emotions and feelings - grudge, anger, sadness, pleasure... i guess you could come up with some other ideas.
I really like how the anime showed multiple times that Kanekis story here was meant to be a tragedy, at start being a quiet kid which is almost all the time reading books, to if i try to put it in a very easy way carrying a burden of the whole tokyo and fate of ghouls and humans.
Ken Kaneki
The main character of the anime Ken Kaneki was at first a normal and quiet kid which doesnt really hang out with others and mainly spends his time reading books. If he actually went out, it was with Hide. After meeting Rize lot of things changed for him. Here is one thing i dont believe some people would pay attention to. Ken Kaneki wasnt good and lacked social skills, well now imagine being in his situation.. having social skill problems and turning into a half-human and half-ghoul, must have been fun to try to establish himself in one of those atleast. With that said i really liked how he was actually able to overcome this :D. After getting comfy to a certain extend he was revealing slowly but surely to himself and us that ghouls aswell have their families and that they arent only monsters. This must have been again something so hard on Ken Kaneki - being the only one to actually know this. The fact that he understood both viewpoints must have been very uncomfortable and hard to swallow, at his place i would feel a REEEEAALLY big pressure on my shoulders only. One more thing i really liked about Ken Kaneki at the very end when i looked at all of the seasons progress he made, i really liked the fact that he learned to just move forward, even tho he not always made the best choice, he atleast was still doing the best possible option he believed he had in that certain moments.
My main takeaways- Move forward and do the best thing you believe is possible at the present moment
- Fight for those you love
- Pain is temporary
Thanks for reading and keep dreaming

1/100A complete insult of the Manga! (Light spoilers)Continue on AniListThis can be said for the anime as a whole but if your first introduction to the series is the anime i can't recommend enough for you to please go read the manga. Saying this season is "rushed" is a total understatement of how "Bad" it is.
As a manga reader of the series i will try to not to spoil anything but the anime did not do anything justice. At best the only complement the anime gets is it's OST and opening/ending music is a total banger because they brought back TK( the singer who did unravel) and there's a certain scene between Kaneki and Touka i thought was somewhat done pretty good but that's the only complement that the anime gets. It really did feel as though the Studio read the series and decided to do foot notes of the series instead of properly adapting it.
First off the animation for a good majority of the fights are a total let down. One of the most important fight's Kaneki Vs Arima was done so dirty something that is very touching and important moment for the protagonist had both lackluster animation and art. . If lackluster animation and art wasn't bad enough they decided to skip major scenes towards the final arc (one most notable is the Kaneki in white Suits). I had heard that the studio had threw away the Arthur's script for the anime sometime around when making Root A and if that's the case then that explains why the anime is so lackluster.
And speaking of Root A if you are an anime only completely ignore Root A as it's not cannon and them expecting anime only's to make sense of this mess of an anime is sad. If you do side by side comparisons between the anime and manga you can easily tell the smallest of things that are missing compared to the manga. I have never seen a anime get as much disrespect as Tokyo Ghoul got especially for a studio who loves to put countless filler in their anime sure did feel like they had something against the series and the author. Even the character designs felt off a lot of the times, for example Ayato, Hinami, and even Kaneki if you go to the manga their designs look way better, just something about the anime makes them look off.
In terms of voice acting i would said the voice acting is somewhat okay nothing really great. I did like Kaneki's Japanese voice actor but that's about it and the english dub sure didn't help in fact the english dub voice acting came off as cringe for this show.
My overall score is a 1/100 if it wasn't for the music and a certain scene i would give this anime a negative 0 out of 100 and i highly and can't recommend the manga for this show, because this isn't an adaptation this is more like someone's wikipedia summary of a show and it's sad because such great music gone to waste on such a garbage adaptation. This "adaptation" is an insult to The fans, TK, and Ishida Sui. In my opinion it's because of adaptations like this as to why many dark series get such a shitty adaptation.
