63/100A fun little oddball hentai that unfortunately didn't get another episodeContinue on AniListKansen Sodom is one of those rare hentai where I came for everything besides the sex. It's not that the sex is even bad, it's just there is so much other stuff going on that you could easily ignore the sex and just pay attention to everything else that's going on. So let's jump right into reviewing it, shall we.
A virus is released at a school by a mysterious organization, affecting both all of teachers and students. Every person affected by this virus has their libido massively inflated until they hunger for sex at every waking moment. Women attack men, men attack women, students and teachers, mass hysteria.
While the sex scenes are alright, the hentai only dwells on scenes for long enough to count as a proper sex scene, and clearly wants to jump around focusing on the stuff around it, trying to fit as much comedy in it as possibly, leaving very little breathing room. And surprisingly, I don't hate it.
The comedy is actually pretty funny, going for an absurdist tone. Jokes land well, and there is quite a few of them, a lot of them appearing in quick succession. It's rare that a hentai actually try to be a comedy and succeed. And it's pretty obvious that the team behind this used the incredibly basic plot to their advantage to put in as many jokes as they could. Most of the time, any "humor" a hentai haves comes from just how so-bad-its-good it is, with the terrible acting, awful plot, and dodgy art work, so it's refreshing to get something that's putting some genuine effort in.
My only real complaint about Kansen Sodom is that it's only one episode long. When I saw the first episode back in 2018, I was really hoping there would be at least one other episode, but alas, only one episode was ever produced. 20 minutes doesn't feel anywhere long enough for everything this anime is going for. With it's fast paced action, and trying to get as many jokes as it could out the door, having another episode could have really helped fit a few more jokes in. Here's hoping that it gets a follow up episode, because the world of hentai could do with a few more legitimately funny entries like Kansen Sodom.
Would I recommend Kansen Sodom? For the sex? Yes, if you happened to be into any of the fetishes that this hentai offers. For the comedy? Also, yes, if you can tolerate the fact that it's a hentai and just want to see some funny and weird shit.

70/100So this is why I took 'Theories and Methods of Literary Analysis' in collegeContinue on AniListBesides finishing up my last class of university and watching the last episodes of Summer 2020 anime, I have been contemplating how to write this review on Kansen Sodom. Looking at the MAL page, I see it says ‘Finished Airing’ and ‘Episodes : 1’ which confused me as the way it ends leaves me with just questions and no answers. Besides the unclear ending, the story is also unclear and from a technical standpoint the hentai isn’t well drawn or animated with even a boner coming from a fade in transition. Despite all this, the answer should be clear cut that this hentai sucks and should be given a 2-3 rating at best yet on the second and third viewing I began to think it was art. It sounds pretty ridiculous to those who’ve watched it or skimmed it yet I will attempt to make my case in today’s interview as to why it deserves an average score at the very least as I could give this a 2 or a 9 so I felt a middling score was most appropriate.
Story : 4 To be honest the story should receive a really low story rating if you’re taking it purely surface level. Maybe it’s part of an interconnected universe where there were different events leading to this hentai or it was supposed to be an abstract piece of art however it was just weird on my first viewing. The story follows the happenings in the school with a B-plot surrounding police officers which leads to a viral bomb exploding that makes everyone horny with a surprising dubstep/neurofunk BGM shrouded in a mysterious C-plot. I say ‘plots’ yet its more like ‘story threads’ that all contribute to the overall story, this is by no means a bad way to tell a story as the school related thread acts as a window into how the bomb affected the public while the police officer thread follows closely to the bombing incident with the C-plot cutting back to those in possession of the bomb which by their similar dress code and face masks make me assume they’re some kind of terrorist outfit. It’s rather well thought out and feels more natural and hentai-like as we obviously need some mindless sex to be occuring and I really have no issue with the school part as I find it the most straightforward and meaningful, I rather take issue with the mysterious bomb plot as the hentai ends so abruptly that we never get a resolution or explanation as to what is happening
Art and Animation : 3/8 With the art and animation, I am once again extremely torn on what to say. On one hand, the art is extremely sloppy, the characters are designed in an unappealing manner, the animation is either too fast or too slow or lacking in general. The sex scenes are often grotesque, silent and short. We get random quick and unexplained actions by characters that leave us confused. Backgrounds are also sloppy, low resolution and generally bad looking which is doubly bad considering it was released in 2018. One of the girl’s face literally morphs into an ape’s face when giving a blowjob, we get shots of tampons and growing armpit hair. It feels extremely poorly executed which is why it’s so easy to just slap a 3 and be done with it.
And yet there is a ‘/8’ right next to that ‘3’ because a little voice in the back of my head, which guided me to writing about how Toshi Densetsu’s Sadako plot is an allegorical story of the older generation of people and media try to find a voice in this unfamiliar technologically rich landscape they’ve suddenly found themselves in and the desperate struggle to maintain relevance, is telling me that I should also be treating the artwork of Kansen Sodom as intentional and with good intentions. Right after the ‘Characters’ section I will be reinterpreting the show’s plot in a deeper way and right alongside that second guessing comes the deeper meaning to the art. So is the art actually good? I’m not saying that it’s good in the practical sense as clearly it isn’t, what the artstyle is though is simply art. It is open for interpretation and not everyone can see that. For exactly the same reason, an abstract expressionist like Jackson Pollock can stand on the same art stage as Georges Seurat’s famous ‘A Sunday on La Grande Jatte’ on equal footing, I can say that Kansen Sodom stands equal to Tamashii Insert or Oyasumi Sex. Obviously not all hentai artstyle can be excused as it has artistic value, however this is truly the case of Kansen Sodom as it goes beyond ‘bad art’ that I cannot say without a reasonable doubt that this wasn’t done intentionally. I may be a fool who is trying to defend a hentai catering to armpit, voyeur or masochistic fetishes however the artstyle seems to be like satirical hypersexualization of modern society’s sexual culture. Hentai often chooses to stray from reality and just like anime it acts like an escape from our sad lives yet Kansen Sodom’s choice of character design seems to point another way as the characters have much more realistic designs as if attempting to snap the viewer back into reality. Our male characters unlike in normal hentai, are closeted perverts who never seek out their desires and turn to jerking it in the school bathroom, which feels very real and very visceral when we put ourselves into that world and realize it is our own, the world as imagined by men. However I will talk more about this in the story section
Characters : 6 It really isn’t fair to say that Kansen Sodom has bad characters as there really is no MC-kun or female protagonist to this show. It really is a broader story that’s told through many perspectives instead of just one with an array of characters with their own memorable moments. Instead it would be easier to take these characters as a one entity to analyze rather than trying to scramble together some meaning behind each character. Really this hentai encapsulates the male desire which is quite evident in how absent the male characters are in this hentai and when they are present they barely speak a word. Instead we see the girls ranging from sadistic and sexually versed to those pure and innocent, from females to power over a man to those underneath them the characters serve their purpose in showing off the male desire yet overall the characters themselves are very one dimensional with that dimension being turned binary when the virus kicks in turning them into extra heightened sexual being instead.
__Story Analysis (but I pretend that I have a fine arts/literature degree) : 9__ Just like visually artistic works can have deeper meaning and value, so can literature. Relating to the plot of Kansen Sodom, the grotesque style and general absurdity falls in line with today’s trending TV shows such as Bojack Horseman or Rick and Morty which have been dissected every which way, finding profound and thought-provoking substance behind a veil of crude jokes and a nonsensical premise. I believe that Kansen Sodom has a similar ‘more than meets the eye’ quality to it as when I first watched it I struggled to make it through while attempting to fap and stick to my principle of always fapping to a hentai I write about. My second viewing was a group viewing in a Discord server and of course we had our laughs at how abrupt and random the actions of the characters were coupled with a plot we struggled to make heads or tails off. However, sitting down to write this I was planning to goof on it yet I found myself drawn in past the ridicule of it all and somehow I found meaning in the mess of a hentai that is Kansen Sodom.
Now what could I have possibly seen in this hentai? The viewer.
Kansen Sodom is a satire on lust from the male point of view as well as commenting on the overall genre of hentai by hypersexualizing a genre which is already sexual in nature. I argue that the perspective is of the male as hentai primarily feels like an escapist fantasy for virgin losers like me who want release from their virgin lifestyle which is catered to an extreme in Kansen Sodom as we see that male characters barely play a role, they are passive characters while the females in the show act in an active capacity as the instigator in sexual encounters. By being these absolutely passive individuals, the audience begins to gain an understanding of their motivation to watch hentai subconsciously if they aren’t aware already, taking these genre tropes to the extreme creates an environment where the attributes are more obvious. The aggressiveness in emphasizing these tropes is so much so that it becomes satirical to a certain extent as Kansen Sodom points a mirror back at the viewer. The ridiculousness of the show with how proactive the female characters are ironically shows the viewer a clearer image of what the male fantasy truly is in hentai and how ridiculous it is even when it isn’t taken to the extremes displayed in Kansen Sodom. The more surreal artistic style aims to help the goal of showing the viewer reality by embracing the reality of how awkward and gross sex can be, keeping the viewer much more grounded so they can witness this reality with a less clouded head.
The different story threads throughout the show display this as well, keeping on theme with showing the viewer every form of the hentai MC’s reality and supposedly our fantasy. We see the police chief cheating on his pregnant wife, the student very forwardly approaching a woman in a position of power over him, the teacher having a student under him give herself so openly to him, the teacher and the sadistic student exerting an opposing force to the obvious power balance. These are all forms of typical hentai sexual relations and yet it isn’t there to just pander to a wide audience, rather it is trying its best to encapsulate the general landscape of hentai to study it and comment on how ridiculous it is. Kansen Sodom shows us the more realistic side first (the man fapping in the bathroom) with no signs of female interests and then shows us the fantasy coming over very rapidly to contrast the two in the most absurd way possible. Much like the ending of the hentai itself, we aren’t left with much of a conclusion and just more questions but that is exactly the point as Kansen Sodom is a provocative piece of art that begs the audience to think critically beyond what is present on the surface and once you penetrate that surface it urges you to think even more leaving the audience hanging telling them that it was all up for interpretation.
From this point of view, Kansen Sodom is not just a brilliant hentai, it is a brilliant work of film that goes beyond jack off material, if it can be considered jack off material, as all the stylistic choices of the story and characters carry on beyond fap and into the conscious of the audience. Kansen Sodom transcends it genre and is one of the most transformative works of art I’ve seen
Enjoyment : 10 Fuck this show is a goddamn banger. All seriousness aside, I watched it a couple times with my friends without skipping and it was hilarious. I doubt many can see themselves fapping to this hentai and I personally don’t even recommend you fap to it but if you have friends that you actively share hentai with or are open about hentai too then get a group together and have a screening because it isn’t gonna be uncomfortable and weird, it’s gonna be fucking hilarious. So many of the ‘jokes’ in this hentai land, it really can be classified as a ‘so bad it’s good’ kind of film. You’ll enjoy pulling it apart and laughing at every little detail which is why it deserves at least one rewatch so you don’t miss anything in the high octane pacing that left me breathless the first go around. Kansen Sodom is without a doubt one of the most unique pieces of media I’ve watched. Give it a go.
