DESCRIPTION

With things such as story out of the way, Higurashi cranks up the fanservice with Kira, a new OVA series to commemorate the series' 10th anniversary, featuring nail-biting situations such as Rika and Satoko becoming magical girls to battle evil magic crime syndicates with the help of their trusty squad of cheerleaders, among other things.

Higurashi but it's cute and funny.
No idea why this has such a low score, this has to be one of the most enjoyable parodies of serious anime's I have ever watched. Note that you should have prior knowledge of both arcs of Higurashi in order to get the full enjoyment out of this.

Story: 10/10 spot on. This show plays with the Higurashi arcs to the point that you can tell what it's a reference of what arc and not only that but they also like to parody it with stereotypical genres for example there's a rom com episode with clear monotonous voicing and boob jiggle ( note that this is intentional for comedy to look bad ), and a episode with a mahou shoujo which basically is spot on with the genre. They're also a solid 24mins or so of solid comedy and cuteness with some fan service.

Sound/Art: No problem with sound, the Opening is pretty catchy and the voices suit the purpose. Art-style in my honest opinion is a huge improvement to the series and it's nice that it changes based on the theme of the episode. You can hear both the original sound tracks from the anime series and also has some new tracks in this OVA that sound amazing. Did I forget to mention that the ED is also pretty good and catchy? Yeah well it is super catchy.

Enjoyment: I enjoyed every second of the show, there's just something you can't get from this show if you haven't watched all the Higurashi arcs since most of the references are based off them for example; there's a episode that explains that the end of the Onikakushi arc was actually Keiichi of the impending doom he will be experience once his friends catch him. It also helps if you watched the genre of anime referenced in the episodes as you can get the jokes such as why the characters act like that way or why there's the unnecessary movements. Even if you don't know the references it's always a bonus to see our beloved group of club members and Hinamizawa residents in improved graphics and alive and well.

The only downside is that there's only 4 episodes to this and I hope that this show has more appreciation because it deserves more than a 60. It is a good show to watch if you want to just sit back and take a breather from the heavy mystery horror anime. This show is also a good watch if you enjoy cute girls.

Welcome back to Hinamizawa in this 4 episode OVA series we have a collection of 4 different fragments lined up so why not join me as we take a peek inside of them and observe what new fun tales Rika and her group of friends have in stock for us! Will we finally be free of tragedy or…?
Difficulty: There is no Difficulty! Just enjoy yourself and be Happy! Lucky! Dochy!

Higurashi Kira is one of the best OVA series one could have wished for regarding Higurashi, because the characters deserve to just have fun for once after all that they went through and it’s also in the spirit of the VN, but seeing as how the mean score for this OVA is quite low I assume some people just can’t enjoy fun which is a shame.
Each episode of this OVA series is its own thing and they are all quite fun and the variety of content makes sure it never gets boring! In one episode we have a full on fanservice parade of all the girls in the show and in another one we have a Mahou Shoujo Parody, and then there’s also the “Harem” episode which is really funny, but one of the most outstanding episodes from this short OVA series has to be the one with Baby Rika meeting Hanyuu and her other friends from the future which is just too cute and definitely quite heartfelt (Honestly makes me tear up every time I watch it). Another fun part is also when the series parodies some of the more serious scenes from the main arcs and it’s just a treat for fans.
Art and Animation wise it’s one of the best looking Higurashi entries and while Higurashi was never known to look “the best” I always liked the charm the art in it has and especially this OVA looks really polished and colorful with a lot of fun expressions on the characters and I also want to give a shout-out to the screen transitions between certain scenes au au.
Also the Opening and Ending Song are so cute and it’s quite easy to get addicted listening to them plus the ending being sung by a different seiyuu every episode is a nice detail and it really shows the effort the put into creating the show. One can tell the staff had fun working at this episodes and truly love Higurashi!
Overall I can recommend this OVA series to anyone who enjoys Higurashi for more than just the horror/mystery aspects, because this is also what Higurashi is and always will be a work with a lot of silly slice of life stuff between all the grueling despair we face in the main series and it just makes for a good time even if it’s unfortunately just 4 episodes, but hey at least each episode is 30 minutes long.
It’s hard to rate it, but I think a 9/10 is fair and it’s one of my personal favorite Higurashi anime series when I just want to relax and have a fun time.

Happy! Lucky! Dochy! Yes Yes Yes Why Higurashi Kira is a masterpiece!
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira is a spinoff series taking place after the events of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and what more could you ask for! It has everything a long time fan would enjoy and really serves as an outstanding reward for fans wanting more Higurashi content! It has everything, naked adolescents, perverted shots of minors, and a ton of sexualization!! Yippee!! Definitely do not skip out on this one if you're a fan. Happy!! Lucky!! Dochy!! Yes Yes Yes! is what I say when i think of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira! The fourth episode however was such a bore! It was the only episode that told an emotional story and was taken mostly seriously. Yawn!! If I wanted a good story I'd watch the original series instead!! My only complaint is that its not long enough! I wish we could have seen more developments on Keiichi's love life and even more inappropriate shots of children. Don't even get me started on the magical girl episode :3 Yes yes yes!! More of that please!!! Cannot recommend this series enough!! I would love to see this series get a remake.... The scenes would be so good!! Perfect for the new style of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou/Sotsu!!! If I'm being honest, this might even be the best series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has to offer. Rei? Yaawwwnnnn, I couldn't stand the character devlopment! If I wanted that, I'd read a book! I want more of the Horny Hinamizawa disease!! (Which honestly should've been the plot of the main series!) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou took a step in the right direction by taking inspiration from this series with its perverted and inappropriate shots of literal children but honestly? Too little!!!
