65/100Extramarital Affairs and Travelling to the North of Japan to Eat Crabs: The MangaContinue on AniListExtramarital Affairs and Travelling to the North of Japan to Eat Crabs: The Manga
This is my first review, so don't expect it to be perfect. It's mostly spoiler-free.
Summary This manga is about a man who, after an unsuccessful suicide attempt, goes to the library and chances upon a beautiful married woman. He then follows her and proceeds to rape, rob, and extort money from her. Strangely enough, she complies with his requests, and over a cup of coffee, she inquires about his plans. He replies that he was planning to die but before that, he wanted to eat crab in Hokkaido. The woman decides to tag along (and fund) their trip to Hokkaido.
Story (7/10) From the summary, you can already tell how messed up the story is. I wouldn't blame you if you read the whole thing and still hated the characters as well as their actions. If you're looking for a story that upholds good morals, especially when it comes to relationships, then this isn't the manga for you. In fact, the plot is probably better if you read the manga as though it was pornography.
However, if you could get past the cheating and nonconsensual sex, the story's just okay. In my opinion, the plot's execution could've been better and some scenes and characters were unnecessary. What I do like is that the manga isn't afraid to portray the characters' filth. It hands you what's possibly a hot pile of garbage and says, "It is what it is."
Art (6/10) Compared to other mangas out there, the art's definitely lacking. Although the colored pages are beautiful, sometimes, the anatomy is inconsistent. Other times, the art's pretty on point.
Overall (6.5) If you're a fan of wholesome romance, then Yuki Onna to Kani wo Kuu is definitely not for you. The story's not a masterpiece, the art is just decent, and the characters are scummy. However, if you do give it a shot, the manga's bound to (maybe mildly) surprise you a few times.
__SPOILER-FILLED COMMENTS__ Okay, now that I've got that out of the way, I wanted to briefly touch on one of the manga's imperfect yet redeeming aspects: the ending.
The story "Night on the Galactic Railroad" pops up in this manga a few times. If you're familiar with it, then the first time it's mentioned, you could easily tell that it's foreshadowing for the future. Near the end, Kita has doubts about ending his life while Ayame's determined to die. In a twist of fate, Ayame survives (which is a good thing, because the idea of Kita keeping a corpse in a car disturbs me).
Maybe I'm too gullible, but I actually thought the manga would end with Kita alive yet all alone. An alternate reality where Campanella jumps off the train didn't cross my mind. I'm glad the manga ended the way it did. We readers have come a long way, from NTR to melodrama. And funnily enough, I admire the insight it gives at the end:
...Something even more beautiful than the Milky Way. Unlike the stars, these hills bloom with flowers of different color every year. It's a spectacle you can only enjoy if you're alive.
Now that's a quote I won't easily forget.

“Most things in this world can be solved with money.” (Phrased from Yukionna, Chapter 7/ Page 9)
Legitimate statement. Yet, it also raises two important questions.
What if the problem you are facing can’t be solved with the money you possess?
What if you don’t even have the money to solve any single problem?
With these two questions confronting Kita (Male MC) and Ayame (female MC), their paths intertwine. And just like that, the road trip of “absolutely no return”, or aka. “after eating Hokkaido crab then die”, begins.!Minor Spoilers!
This isn’t a manga for “delightful" experience. It is going to make you reflect upon life and society.Story: 9
Story is about our Male lead who decides to suicide. But he decidies to eat crab which he have never eaten in the tip of japan. So he starts preparing for the trip, but he doesnt have enough money. That time a woman unknowingly collides with him in the super market. The male lead touches her and also noticed she got a huge diamond ring. So he decided to steal it before suicide. But when he encounters the woman again she offers her body money and decides to come along with his trip.I don’t want to comment too much on this category since I really want you guys to read it. But, the vibe of this storyline is beyond mesmerizing. Yet, I still have to give this manga a -1 for potential fluctuation.Characters: 9
Main MC:
-Kita: Social outcast with no money.
-Ayame: Rich wife with a seemingly unhappy marriage.Honorable mention:
-MariaCharacter development is definitely on point so far. As the story continues, more layers of each character have been slowly revealed. But, the character development is far from over. Thus, -1 for potential error.
Art: 10
Love this mangaka. When you realize that the artist put a ton of effort into drawing those eyes, detailed backgrounds, and delicious food, you know this category deserves a 10! The depictions of those contours… Mamma Mia!Enjoyment: 10
I starved myself so that I could read this manga without stopping. Then, I treated myself with some crab sticks.Overall: 9~9.5
Due to the theme of this manga, I am extremely sure that this manga isn’t meant for younger audiences (under 18).For me though, this manga is fantastic as if I just had a wine tasting session :)
No one can ever live a perfect life.
For something to be perfect, there is always an ending to it.
Just think about it, how can you ever know you are living THE life or THE moment when you have never experience ups and downs?Using myself as an example, I wouldn’t have appreciated those “perfect” past moments or “true happiness” without some comparisons from the personal lows.
