DESCRIPTION
Cherry is a quiet boy who loves to make haikus based off of the things he sees. One summer day in a city in the Japanese countryside…
At a shopping mall, he meets Smile, a beautiful girl in a mask. Cherry has trouble speaking in anything but haikus, and Smile wears a mask to hide her big, braces-covered front teeth. The two of them get closer as the south wind blows. One day, the two of them learn from Old Man Fujiyama, a master of Haiku who’s started going senile, that he’s searching for a certain record.
“If I can hear this record again, I can remember… Something I don’t want to forget, but can’t remember…”
Cherry and Smile decide to help. This is the story of their summer, set in a shopping mall…

95/100Art is the signature of our relationships: this film portraits this idea perfectly.Continue on AniListWhen words surpass the limits of our existence, that is the moment in which mankind can express themselves without any boundaries. During history, this statement has been some of the greatest boosting for the improvement of societies. Hence, what a better manner could be implementing this concept in a new-generation production. Definitely, words have been sparkling like a fizzy drink during the course of this production.
Cherry finally noticed it, spontaneously, like the serendipity that it was meeting Smile. An easily-blushed boy and a well-known influencer got to know each other due to the spur of the moment. Both of their paths got entangled, both of their fears were connected, and finally, both of their feelings blossomed into a relationship that will make you burst into tears of blissfulness.
Two artistic disciplines play (never said better) a key role in the development of the plot. On one hand, there are haikus. Haikus are brief nuances of how we perceive life, expressed with a minimalistic yet touching vocabulary. In the progress of the film, you will notice how powerful can be those magic words in both of the main characters. On the other hand, music is the catalyst; with a rhizomatic nature, every single character will be implied to recover a missing object, specifically, an utterly dear vinyl.Regarding the graphics, the 80´s lovers will enjoy it. The powerfulness of colours suggest with flying colours the youthful events illustrated throughout the film. The animation is also pretty well developed, having its summit when the emotions are on edge. As a matter of fact, they seemingly combine with all the haikus that appear in combination with the dialogues. On the other hand, regarding the OST, it expresses successfully what the director tried, from my point of view, to express: vividness. I have done a little research and I am glad to say that I found the OST on Spotify, link will be laying at the bottom of this review.link
I highly recommend this film not only to people who usually enjoy cute stories about their nostalgic teenager years or teenagers that want to feel identified in the big screen, but also to the ones that are scared of living the true version of themselves. It is hazardous to notice whether you are doing something because of your own will or, on the other hand, due to personal restrains. Maybe this film will help you open your wings and fly to the sky, to places you have never dreamt about (yep, pretty metaphorical this phrase). If you do not feel identified with this sort of attitude though, nevermind, you should give it a try either.

60/100A good anime to watch when you're feeling down.Continue on AniListWords bubble up like soda pop is a cute wholesome anime that’s filled with bright vibrant colors and a great soundtrack. Brought to you by Netflix created by studio Signal M.D and sublimation. Signal M.D is known for FLCL progressive, and Recovery of mmo junkie. Signal M.D and sublimation hasn’t made many anime’s but the ones they have made aren’t very impressive so I didn’t really have a high expectation for this anime.
Words bubble up like soda pop introduces us to the 2 main characters, which were Cherry and Smile. Cherry the Male character and Smile the Female character are both shy and lacks confident. Cherry writes haikus but is too embarrassed to read them out loud to others, and smile has buck teeth with braces which makes her insecure and she ends up wearing a face mask to cover up her insecurity. Right away I liked these 2 characters and seeing them interact with one another was awkward but cute in a way. I also liked how these 2 characters who were timid helped each other get over their insecurities and gain confidence.
Another thing I liked right away was the art style and animation. The colors were bright, pretty and really fit the whole “summer vibe”. Animation was impressive as well especially the beginning scene where beaver was running away from mall staff members and the cinematography for that particular scene was very cool.
The music in this anime was also good. The music was a variety of upbeat and calming songs which fit this anime really well, and set the mood for many scenes perfectly.
Unfortunately those were all the goods things in this anime. The story and side characters was the main thing that was holding it back from being something really special and memorable.
This anime starts off very generic, 2 strangers accidentally bump into each other and both mistakenly takes things that aren’t theirs. In this case they mistakenly took each others phones. Right away I assumed this anime was gonna be about 2 people trying to look for each other and somehow fall in love like Your name, or Disney movie Cinderella where prince looks for the girl whose feet can fit the shoe, But I was wrong. Instead majority of the story focused on our main characters looking for a lost music record for an old man. The ending of the anime was very bittersweet and left me with more questions than answers which was a bit disappointing. Side characters in this anime weren’t really interesting but they did contribute to the story in many ways. overall I thought that the story could’ve been much more but It isn’t a bad movie by any means.
If your looking for a wholesome anime where you can sit back relax and just enjoy whatever is happening, I would highly recommend this one.

75/100Overall...this movie was almost realistic and showed the light at things in a realistic way which I liked. A 7.5/10.Continue on AniListI'm not even gonna lie, this is got to be on of the best anime we got this season. This is coming from a guy who has watched Peach Boy Riverside and many other "great" anime this season, and I have literally slept through them. This anime.....was actually able to entertain me to a certain extent. Of course it's nowhere near the best anime I have seen and lacks in many ways. But I can say for sure that I deeply enjoyed this anime and I won't give it an unfair rating.
For Story and Plot, I'll give it a 7/10 Rating
For Character, I'll give it a 8/10 Rating
For Music, I'll give it a 7.5/10 Rating
For Enjoyment, I'll give it a 8/10 Rating
For Ending, I'll give it a 8.5/10 RatingAs you could see, it had many string points such as the awesome ending to the great character designs. It easily makes it's way into my list as one of the many enjoyable anime of all time. In the plot of the story, you could see how well built the author created it to be when the disk broke in smile's hand. Smile just wanted to make it better so it could play better, but it accidently broke. Everything was going downhill until they found another identical disk in the senior retirement home (I think that's what it is called). Even if the disk was found and the festival was going smoothly, I would have never expected Cherry to go back to the festival, which got me a bit excited. There were a lot of great moments in the plot, but not that much to get excited over, so I gave it a 8/10.
Let's talk about the ending here. What can I say about the ending except that it was totally awesome! Like many anime that I have seen before, I thought that the ending would have been Cherry going back to the festival and joining with Smile and the others and watching the fireworks together. But.....it was not, the ending actually was more romantic than that. Coming from a guy who likes to watch romance, I could way that the ending was pretty well built. The author gave Cherry and Smile some alone time together in the end.....kinda. Cherry confessed his feelings for Smile over the microphone while everyone could hear (Which I found really romantic). I'm not sure if they would understand since they were watching fireworks. Smile removed her mask and gave a nice and big......Smile? while blushing, which implies that she "might" have the same feeling for Cherry. Well....she does have the same feelings cuz she asked him out earlier in the movie. So based of this amazing ending....I would give this movie a 8.5/10. One way they could have improved it was by showing us more about the relationship between Cherry and Smile overtime.
And oh boy.....the character designs and development. Were they good or were they good? I mean....as the movie kept progressing, we could see the strong development of both characters Cherry and Smile as they kept getting closer together while slowly overcoming their problems or fears. It starts out in the beginning where Smile has braces and is afraid to show other people her teeth while Cherry is afraid of loud noises and is always shy and nervous. After they bump into each other....it begins. Smile slowly helps Cherry overcome his shyness as she socializes with him while Cherry begins to accept Smile showing Smile what he doesn't care about other smaller things such as her braces. The 2 of them slowly grow closer together while helping many people and even overcoming the disk challenge. In the end, Smile asks Cherry out and.....things don't go well from there. But somehow, Cherry ends up going to the festival and confessing to Smile, who then becomes really happy....and THE END.
Overall...this movie was almost very realistic and showed the light at things in a very realistic way which I liked. The Enjoyment I felt from this was indescribable as I have not felt it in such a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, time.
Overall...while being careful not to rate it toooooo high.....I'll give it a 7.5/10
