DESCRIPTION
Based on the erotic game by Clock Up team Anise.
Mochizuki Tomoya is a guy that lives on his own with only a day job at a convenience store keeping him afloat. While he really likes eroge, he can't draw, isn't much of a writer or composer, and doesn't know much about business. Still, his dream is to get a job at an eroge studio in hopes of creating what he loves, eroge.
Tomoya's luck takes a turn for the better when he sees a help wanted ad for the local studio Flower, and after a meeting with the company president (who to his surprise looks like an elementary school kid), manages to get a job as administrator of the company's website. Tomoya's glee at being part of the eroge industry is short-lived, as he soon learns that Flower is on the chopping block due to their first title being a massive failure.
After playing through Flower's first title, Tomoya realizes that his co-workers don't know anything about eroge, lacking the insight and understanding needed to make a good game. After some nudging from the president of Flower's parent company and some soul searching of his own, our protagonist takes it upon himself to save Flower by teaching the four girls on staff the ins and outs of what makes an eroge good. The story thus focuses on Tomoya's role as a psuedo-consultant while getting to know the four heroines of the story as the player is given an interesting look at the world of eroge development.

70/100New Game! but it's hentaiContinue on AniListEroge! H mo Game mo Kaihatsu Zanmai is a good hentai, maybe even a great hentai standing as one of the most popular hentai to date for its accessibility to the vast public with episodes appealing to the creeps and the vanilla weeblets. It gave us good dialogue, quality animation and a plot that didn’t need an invested viewer however kept the story moving as well as providing motivation behind the ero scenes which led to better character development than hentai characters usually get. The characters bounced off each other well and the show had a few winks towards the hentai community in the constant reminders that the loli project manager was 32 by branding it on her hand or the back and forth between characters in the middle of them committing dirty deeds which made for great chemistry however it was no Baka na Imouto. Eroge! strikes me as an above average hentai with an interesting environment and phenomenal animation which just about differentiates it from the sea of hentai.
Story : 7
The concept of a hentai about creating eroge is an entertaining premise that has seen success in the anime scene in titles such as New Game! and Shirobako. Exploring the process of creating a highly popular medium such as eroge, similarly to video games and anime, has a strong appeal to the a wide spectrum of consumers and the Eroge! series delivers upon the artistic side of that process through the failing local studio Flower.
Our protagonist, a new hire to the studio, realizes the crew’s lack of sexual experience through their failure of a first game due to, like many of us, his crippling addiction to hentai providing him with a vast library of knowledge on what makes or breaks a good eroge. Seeking to improve their work, the various members decide to take advantage of their new resource MC-kun to gain more experience as reference for their future game’s art and story.
Overall the story is quite simple however it provides scenarios that less forcefully create sexual encounters between characters acting as plot lubricant to take the story from act to act throughout the course of an episode. The storyline was not so heavy with regards to the show however it gave it some semblance of structure which kept the absurdity of the character relationships from collapsing in on itself, being light enough for people to jump in and out of the series as they pleased knowing mostly what was going on within the context of an episode.Ero Quality : 8
As hentai go, this show gets more ero as the show progresses from simple sex to pee to lactation and forced orgasm while dipping slightly into rape (barely). The part that threw me off the most was most definingly the scat moments of the show.
While not being so horrendous as the hentai referenced most obviously in Episode 5 (Euphoria) it touches on more niche categories while keeping it tame enough that it does not put off a majority of it’s viewers. As a light and breezy show about the joys of game development research it may get weird from time to time however it never left me with emotional damage like so many other hentai while providing me with a wide array of weird sex acts to enjoy for variety sake, if you’re looking for vanilla then the first two episodes are quite tame.Art and Animation : 8
The character design for the Eroge! is good. As far as hentai goes there isn’t much to say besides that our MC has visible eyes while the girls still have absurdly huge breasts that make it seem unrealistic that they don’t seem to show signs of back pain given the absolute units stapled onto their chests.
On the other hand, the animation and background art are outstanding throughout the series keeping the high level of quality yet I say that with an asterisk as in the final episode the background and art quality take a major hit looking akin to the original Jitaku Keibiin.Characters : 7
As mentioned previously the strength of this show comes from the characters and how they play off each other. The main love triangle centers around our protagonist, Kisara and Momoka while other recurring characters such as Nene, Iori and Reina add extra flavor the show through their short-lived misadventures with the protagonist.
Kisara is the generic tsundere who warms up to MC-kun through ‘learning’ how to draw ero scenes better and their constant banter in and out of the bedroom shows how Kisara would grow affectionate of him mirroring their progress in sexual endeavors.
Momoka similarly has her apprehensions about MC-kun and her ‘ojou-sama’ act is amusing when juxtaposed to the over the top sexual acts she partakes in as she tries to maintain a shred of dignity by projecting the character of ‘a masochistic pig’ onto MC-kun. She bickers with MC-kun clearly to deaf ears however as he pushes the limits of their relationship further and further we see her defensive walls come crumbling down to embrace him.
Iori was our wildcard as the most reserved character however ending up exposing her darker side to the audience in spur of the moment actions that added spice to episodes she appeared in as a main character however I felt as her character was undeveloped and she was boxed into being the toilet-girl when she could’ve been so much more for the show as a way of exploring different fetishes within each episode
MC-kun surprisingly was the most developed in the show, going from the shy, dominated virgin to the absolute borderline rapist Chad who could pump any girl up with as much white stuff as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. We saw his evolution in how he treated the girls becoming much more assertive and by the end being the most dominant presence on the screen while not being an ugly bastard.Reflections and Flaws:
Although Eroge! has all the hallmarks of an outstanding hentai, once the novelty of the plot is broken down, we see how little the story does with their premise showing an overwhelming lack of imagination. Furthermore, I was taken aback by the sheer drop in quality in the final episode causing the show to leave a bad taste in my pants as a whole experience. Although a few characters were developed, given the 6 episodes and 30 minute runtimes it felt as if they should’ve been able to develop and explore other characters within the total 3 hours of hentai. This is an enjoyable hentai, not remarkable by any stretch of the imagination and it is easy to see why it appeals to many yet it feels that it was created too complacently as if the studio knew it would do well and didn’t put in their 100%
Notes on scoring :
- Score below 50% is a fail
- Going from 50%, the score of the section’s “badness” exponentially increases so 25% isn’t just half as bad as 50%
Scoring interpretation
- 60% is “barely good enough”
- 70% is “average”
- 80% is “definitely above average”
- 90% is “damn that’s legitimately good”
- 100% is “perfect”
