DESCRIPTION
Hose is the ultimate romantic comedy protagonist, who is more talented and better than me at everything. Hose and I are going to battle over Pansy at the fateful regional tournament finals. While Nishikizuta and Toshobu high schools go head-to-head in a baseball match, I’m going to battle Hose in a popularity contest. Yes, I’m going to fight fair and square…Psych! Of course not! The odds are overwhelmingly against me, so I’m going to play dirty! Mwahahaha! I know that Hose is going to follow the rules to the tee, so I’m going to do the exact opposite…Huh? What did you say? There are some new rules? Wait a sec!
Why are all the rules in favor of the other guy? Himawari, Cosmos, Asunaro! Why did you betray me? Crap…I have no one on my side…The rules are all twisted…So, I have no shame in using all my dirty tricks so everyone can see!

45/100More of the same. If you loved the anime, you'll enjoy this; if you hated it, you'll despise this even more.Continue on AniListTo be honest, I almost completely forgot that this OVA was going to come out in the first place. The only reason why I watched it was because someone asked me if I saw it. When I wrote my review for the OVA’s predecessor, I made a point of watching this when it was released, hoping that it could erase some of the sour taste that its predecessor left. Unfortunately, this OVA only left me feeling even more disgusted.
This 70-minute long OVA finishes the arc that the season ended in the middle of. Joro is challenged to a ‘popularity contest’ by Hose, the ‘protagonist’ of a rival school. The contest is over Pansy; whoever collects the most barrettes gains the right to continue associating with her, the loser has to cut all ties. With Himawari, Cosmos, and Asunaro have already given Hose their barrettes, Joro is in a 0-3 hole. If Hose gains one more barrette, he automatically wins--how will Joro get himself out of this predicament?
A lot of my complaints about this OVA will be a mirror of my complaints about the prequel. The thing that pisses me off the most about this show is that it has flashes of brilliancy. On its own, the parts of the show that are a parody of the rom-com/harem genre are excellent. I sill believe that the first arc of the anime was great. The problem is that it tries to be that AND a sincere rom-com/harem anime. There are ways you could still maintain the parody aspect of the show, now that there are no less than five girls in love with this wretched little cretin called Joro, but Oresuki decides to try to be both at the same time. The result is that the shows ends up neither being a good parody of the rom-com/harem genre OR a good rom-com/harem anime.
This OVA was supposed to build up the sense of anxiety that Joro could very well lose this contest and his relationship with Pansy, but I never felt any sense of anxiousness while watching this. The problem is that with a series like this that ‘the show must go on’, that being that the end goal of this series will not be railroaded in the process by something like this. While it would be potentially genius, but I can’t really see a series like Oresuki having the guts to pull it off. What you’re left with is a long and drawn out OVA begging for you to be nervous about what’s about to happen. I can’t find myself caring that much what happens when I already can tell how it’s going to end up.
Speaking of knowing how things are going to end up, the ending of this OVA was a huge stinker. As I said, ‘the show must go on’, but this ending really stunk it up. It’s almost like the author wrote the worst ending to this arc that they could think of as a part of a cruel joke. Maybe I’m just a moron that doesn’t get it. I do get that Oresuki does often explore the meta aspects of the rom-com/harem genre, but it isn’t smart enough to not fall into the same traps itself.
I would have given this OVA (and its predecessor) a lower rating, but I can’t since does have its good parts. If only Oresuki could execute and stick to the set-pieces it sets up, it could be a good anime. Until then, it will be stuck being a mediocre to bad anime that pretends that it’s better than what it’s parodying.

90/100It's like a pack of jack-o'-lanterns. Surprise!Continue on AniListGeneral Overview:
If we ever watched this movie together, I would've squealed in joy. On the other hand, if you ever remembered my previous review about Tonikawa, you would probably know that this is going to be one of my topmost favorite movies of the anime movies that I watched. Remember the famous quote "Life is like a box of chocolate you never know what you're gonna get."? now change it 2 2 something dad can relate to this show. It will transform to something like this: "This OVA have so many plot twists, and backstories that would make the show much more understandable."Music:
Aside from the opening and ending, there aren't any notable music or melodies that would pique my interest. it feels like the show could have some minor improvements. Although the plot and story are suffice for me, it would make the show much more enjoyable than what I felt.Story:
If it wasn't already obvious from the overview and music section, if you ever watched the whole series, it will make sense. The unique thing about this movie is that you're going to get a dose of such wholesome moments. that includes the protagonist making sure that everyone would be happy in the end. Such is shown when the main character devise a plan from the very beginning in order to win the girls heart. Honestly, this is another one of those shows that I can't help but smile.Plot:
If I wasn't being redundant enough, I would say this OVA made me go crazy due to the plot twists that was revolving around the said protagonist. It shows that Joro is one of those guys that would sacrifice himself to the point of hiding his true personality, especially with the one that are the closest to him. This anime also had it's fair share of twisted storyline with happy and sad moments. It was quite joyful in the end when the two individuals in baseball were actually jealous of their idols to the point that they would commit a mistake.Overall:
With that being said, there's nothing else left for me to say. I guess I could finish this review with saying this is one of those anime's that I really love so much. A protagonist caring for his friends while risking and hiding his true personality is one that needs to be commended. Aside from that, a girl as caring yet sly when it comes to her loved one is a dream for anyone even if you realize that you won't be able to get the girl of your dreams. (Not unless if your dream girl was actually in real life. If that's the case, gomen.) It's been a fun journey with this show. I'm going to miss this satirical and too-many-cameos of an anime. I might as well venture to another series that would pique my interest.
