81/100A Criminally Underrated Chinese IsekaiContinue on AniList___Yaojing Zhongzhi Shouce//Planting Manual (Demon Spirit Seed)___ A good Chinese anime with a lot of great ideas and enormous potential!
A Quick Sum Up:
We are following the adventures of Yuan Ding, an otaku, getting isekaied whereas he was on his way to a convention. Finding himself transported into a world of swords and sorceries he chooses the way of a gardener, only after discovering that he truly possesses no magical affinity, at all. Living a calm and retired life until he uncovers the secrets of a legendary fairie seed. Setting his own goal as being the protagonist of this world, Yuan Ding will now travel all around the it to collect each possible seed. What I loved:
• I really enjoyed the part about Mo-Fei's past, even tho the revelations were kinda obvious, The emotions were still there, and damn wasn't I ready to receive such a punch in the guts. Of course concerning this whole story arc, I would have preferred to enjoy these flashbacks without the actual commentaries of the Mc... But this special way of dealing with a character's bygone days, this additional insight brought by Yuan Ding's reactions, brought back memories of my time gladly spent on the masterpiece "The House in Fata Morgana". Good memories.• The opening... The opening is a real wonder, such calm music, mesmerizing, humming humbly in your ears. Supporting a really good animation. My sole regret... It's too short, I want more of it !!
The op: "Elegy of Fairies (Yao Qing de Bei Ge; 妖精的悲歌)" by Dong Fang Mu Si (东方慕思)
https://youtu.be/qAzexGoUE2U• The art is real nice ! Some shots look simply magnificent, depending on the different episodes. Characters' emotions are easily readable, and the switch between the cute chibi art style and the common one used through the show is very smooth, supporting every possible humorous aspect.
• The characters, and the story they convey. The very concept of this show can remind you of Date a Live, a dude using gorgeous women to fight in his stead, even though, to be honest, I really preferred this anime, being less ecchi, less fan service in any possible way.
• The main antagonist, he's just awesome !! His action making a somewhat basic isekai Mc evolving in a rather interesting way ! His powerful impact on the story is undeniable ! Thanks to the M.A's homogenous relationship with Yuan Ding, both of the characters aren't what you can find in basic isekai tropes.
What I disliked:
• The combat animations... The animation in general is doing a fine job, and even tho we can see that lots of efforts were putted in, yeah the combats are still pretty floppy... But I guess this is a bit of a norm anyway. If Quanzhi Fashi's animation didn't scare you, then you are ready to go, give this anime a try... But don't go searching for a quality of animation equal to "The Daily Life of the Immortal King".
But don't misunderstand me, the animation is "good" even more compared to the masses of low-cost Japanese animes.• Sometimes, the cuts in the story may feel a bit rushed, jumping from one scene to another without a breath, but to be honest, I'm the kind of person that appreciates loooong and very slow pace. So it may also be just me. Especially the one between episodes 8 and 9, maybe this specific cut would have worked better if it was made thanks to a separation allowed by the ending, or the change of episode.
Hence why I love so much all the "flashbacks" parts where such things don't occur.• Just like a lot of Chinese anime the English subtitles are clearly horrendous depending on where you are watching it. So much that it doesn't do "Yaojing Zhongzhi Shouce" justice. (Anyway, as for myself I could really enjoy the show for what it was, so it is not really a downside.)
Overall:
Honestly, this show is great ! It possesses a lot of qualities generally hindered by people mainly accustomed to the Japanimation products. Yes just like any other show it has its flaws... And to be honest, seeing the stats on this website was kinda depressing, I really do believe that at least "Planting Manual" is worth the try. So if you are used to or love Chinese productions give it a chance.
