Sigh. Where to start? From the beginning of the reading, the reader is already thrust into the protagonist's eyes. There is no long, drawn-out backstory, no self-aware monologue, and no hyper-compressed cliché; we simply begin existing, and from the get-go share the experience of the protagonist as he deals with his demons. This works particularly well for the type of story that eventually develops, as we, the readers, are invited to judge for ourselves whether the pain he is submitted to is deserved, or not. We are given the reigns to designate for ourselves the villains and the heroes of this story: not that it is terribly hard to do so. This is, of course, because the scenery it propels the reader into is very much based on shock value. Interestingly, though, it knows exactly how to set the reader up to expect this disgust, yet at the same time breaks up the narrative in ways that help digest and keep the reader interested and guessing (hoping).
Of note, there are; emotional fraternal scenes; Red Herring's in dialogue and character thought; brief romantic comedy bits and more which only serve to heighten and accentuate the amazingly despicable in this manga. These sections aren't explicitly set up as separate from the narrative, which translates to less of a 'riding into a ditch' feel and more of a 'coming across a speedbump'. Intended, by all purposes, to keep the reader aware and guessing, and not completely murder the ongoing tension and exhilaration the reader rides throughout the narrative.
Moreso than the plot contrivances, of interest to casual readers, would be the art and style of presentation. It seems to me that there is this inherent vigorous depiction in certain panels that might visually disgust readers, but it remains absurd enough in expression and action that we do not immediately click off. Of course, this is in part due to the 'speedbump' approach and fluidity of chapters. Action, reaction, and plot devices are spread smoothly over multiple chapters, but with slight hitches that separate this from a single-take manga or short story. Within chapters, though, the sudden change in and out of action scenes are marked by a sharp artistic twist, with detail in expression, angle, and shading being added to a much larger degree when it serves the artist (and disgusts the reader) to do so. With certainty, however, this is not for the faint of heart nor the weak of stomach.
We see a similar style in terms of character construction and deconstruction [short bursts of information and context given] that pace themselves undeniably well with the brusque way in which the reader's hopes, dreams, and will to live are relentlessly destroyed throughout this manga.
This, coupled with the sparse toe-dips ['speedbumps'] into side ventures, creates a very unique atmosphere throughout the reading, and brings something to the table when reading, You would think otherwise, but as [I have contrarily] exemplified by K.A. Linde: "the highest highs bring the lowest lows."
And boy, are those lows abyssal in magnitude.
I read these thirty-odd chapters while on a voice call with a few friends. There were some "feel-good anime openings" playing in the background and the occasional commentary from a pair playing a match of some competitive FPS game.
The experience, needless to say, has fried my brain. In summary, fuck this amazing piece of dogshit literature, fuck everyone who contributed to making it, and fuck you @scrapo

20/100A story with no substance, unless you're into looking at various forms of torture.Continue on AniListTHIS REVIEW WILL INCLUDE SPOILERS, AND I'LL BE GIVING A TRIGGER WARNING FOR WORDS I USE AND DESCRIBING CERTAIN ACTIONS AND EVENTS.
This will be my first review and I'm not majoring in English Literature, so please bear with me and my ramblings. I also swear, so sorry.
I have been reading this manga series on the recommendation from two of my friends. They hardly ever recommend me anything, so I thought to myself, "It surely must be decent, my friends are usually into some enjoyable things!". Oh boy, was I so, so wrong. I'll go ahead and be up front. I fucking despise this series, and I'm very passionate in explaining to people why. This series feels like a rape fantasy at times, and complete garbage at others. If you want a series that's extremely similar in that it's a revenge story where the main character exacts revenge, read Misu Misou instead. It's better for what it is, and doesn't have to unnecessarily involve rape in every single arc to further the story.
Plot:
My main issue with the series is the absolutely abhorrent story that the author tells through this work. The story focuses on Shun Uruma and his journey on exacting revenge on the five bullies that killed his family. He mainly uses intricate ways of torture on these five people to punish them for what they had done. Sounds simple, right? Well, I'll get into that. He's raised and trained by his grandfather in order to kill the antagonists, as long as he gives the people who have wronged them a fair chance. This fair chance being that the characters have changed for the better, and feel regret for their actions. It makes sense, but how does the author go about it?
From my perspective, it seems like one of the core themes and plot devices is showcasing how evil the characters are, besides them hardly changing since they were kids, is some form of sexual assault. Every story arc somewhat progresses via the main antagonist somehow raping a girl somewhat close to the main character. The amount of rape in this series is baffling, to the point where I wonder why I even continue reading this series. For example, one of the girl's experience is just...horrific, so to speak. They are basically locked up in a house, with no access to the outside, and are sexually assaulted constantly to the point where the character is emotionless and broken. The portrayal of women and how they are treated in this series is astounding to me, as it is needless and unwanted.
Besides the unnecessary amount of sexual assault in the series, what else is there to the story? Well, to be frank, there isn't much of anything. Besides there somehow being a love triangle that seemingly appears out of nowhere, it solely focuses on the killings of the antagonists. It falls into a loop of where the antagonists think they have the upper hand, but are surprised when Uruma triumphs over them.
There are a couple of detectives that are looking into the killings of the people Uruma disposes of. The duo aren't incredibly important to the narrative, except in one instance. This one instance took me by surprise, in how moronic it was. The main detective tracked Uruma to a shed where Uruma had just finished pummeling one of the antagonists to a bloody mush, and walks in on him in the middle of the act. We then witness a flashback, explaining how the detective himself murdered people in the past, and regretted his actions. The detective asks Uruma if he would like to come with him to atone for his sins, to start anew. Then Uruma proceeds to pick the detective up by his throat and choked the life out of him. This baffled me by making me wonder where in the fuck this absurdity even came from. I can still recall the thought that came across my mind at the time: "What the fuck is even happening anymore?".
After this incident, I just wanted this series to hurry up and end so I could be done with this mess of a work. But then, the author did something I couldn't help but just chuckle at. The mastermind of the antagonists somehow founded a cult, and sent even more brainwashed lackeys to deal with Uruma. At this point in time, I'm unsure of if this train wreck of a series will ever conclude. I just can't comprehend the author's intent or their current objective.
Characters:
I'll somewhat briefly discuss the characters that I feel even warrant being mentioned, as they are all somewhat one-dimensional and don't deserve any form of character analysis.
The main character of this series is Shun Uruma. He's basically your typical edgy power fantasy protagonist. His main objective is to exact revenge, mainly in the form of torture. There isn't any significant character growth, as in the character's progression is basically stagnant even to the most recent chapter.
The main antagonist, the mastermind behind all of the happenings to Uruma, is Kyou Shigoku. He manipulated everyone around him to his will, which led to Uruma's family perishing at their hands. There isn't any true depth to this character, besides being a despicable human being.
Art:
I'll give the author props where it's due. The author draws in a rough and gritty style, which is perfect for displaying the events that transpire in the series. The author does a superb job in illustrating how demented a character can be, or portraying the raw emotions the characters go through.
Summary:
I would never recommend this series to anyone. If you want to read a series with minimal plot, various methods of torture with tons of gore, tons of sexual assault, and a power fantasy series with the protagonist seeking revenge on his bullies, you are more than welcome to read this if you want. Though I would recommend the series Misu Misou instead, where the series doesn't completely suck and accomplishes what it sets out to do.

35/100EDGY TRASH, BUT I CANT STOP READING. OR CAN?? Yeah I probably canContinue on AniListMan, I love horror manga or just darker themed manga with lots of killing, gore, violence and revenge. Ya know, the whole nine yards of trashy stuff that usually has little to no substance going for it at all, that's my shit!
This manga is not my shit though! It sucks!!
There's like an unspoken golden rule for most revenge themed stories, but it it applies to a certain type of revenge themed story.
That is, the MC can't just fail time and time again at that whole revenge thing, given that it's the whole point of the damn story. This can be easily discarded if you're writing a revenge story that at least attempts to delve into the morality and tragic themes of such a plot. It's okay for him to lose and fail and get shafted for the greater purpose of delving into that pain and hatred, case in point, Berserk. It handles this theme very wonderfully.
This manga doesn't do any of that though, it's a violent gore fest of suffering for no deeper reason other than the author wanted try his hand at torture porn. It would be half decent if not for one thing, the mc just never wins. Yeah he beats up the little worms that are surrounding the real big bad of the story but even still, everyone around him is just in constant suffering or pain for one reason or another and it makes an already shallow story even worse of a read.
Spoilers, ahead
You get this massive build up a face off and you finally start thinking some real shit is about to go down but nooo, nearly a hundred chapters in and at the final face off the author says naahhhh just playing and kills off what little people the mc has left in his life and the antagonist just buggers off back to his stupid little cult thing or whatever the hell he was trying to do idk.
Then to top it all off the mc is sent to prison, then bam on top of a time skip after the mc has lost everything dear to him AGAIN. The dude now has amnesia?!? What?!? I'm not about to read some dumb ploy to prolong your schlock author-san my deepest apologies, I will likely drop this series if this isn't an amnesia fake out.
You get wanton rape left and right for the sake of being edgy and using it as some cheap attempt to illicit a reaction from you, you get the mcs family built back up to be taken away again literally 5 chapters later, the cop that is supposed to be investigating how his family is murdered is killed and his stupid ditzy side kick is livid and now hates the mc for muh plot just to add another hurdle for him to cross for zero reason on his path to revenge, then to top it all off he goes to jail and loses his memory and somehow becomes a hitman for hire lmfao it's so stupid and convoluted. I'm seriously nearing my limits with the amount of BS I can put up with for this manga. Genuinely.
This review has zero structure, I apologize, I needed to rant and warn others of the misfortune about to befall them by reading this trite
