DESCRIPTION
Based on the popular RPG game from KLab. In the Wahrheit Empire, humanity’s spirit remains fragmented from a disaster in the past where many lives were lost to bloodthirsty monsters who were once summoned. But the fate of the capital is about to drastically change when shy transport worker Inumael and naive Empire soldier Leocadio get caught up in a smuggling incident.

70/100Interesting main character, decent plot, inconsistent animationContinue on AniListDespite being a small production that stumbles the animation at couple points and straight falls flat at the end, this is my favorite video game based anime series so far. The plot itself is a pretty typical innocent person getting caught in world-ending conspiracy story, but executed well. At many places where another series would do something that the larger plot demands and then move on the the next plot point, this show would take the time to fill in the holes on a character's justifications and reasoning.
The most interesting part of this show is its main character. If you only look at the character designs or even only watch the first ten minutes of the show, the person you guess is the protagonist is not the actual protagonist. The actual main character, Inumael, looks like an NPC and acts like an NPC. He is timid, cowardly, and avoids confrontations in a very normal person way, and yet he always figure out what's the right thing to do at the critical moment. As he gets dragged deeper into the mess of national conspiracy, his ability to think on the spot and genuine kindhearted desire to help those in need shines through his hesitance to stay out of trouble. He is put in different situations that demands gradually more initiative from him, and the viewer witnesses the transition from "why is this doofus the protag" to being proud of his decision to put himself on the line for others.
For any "the ending is paramount" viewers, though, this series would be a disappointment. As a prequel to the mobile gacha game that it is advertising, the role of this show is to set up the world in a way that makes the viewer want to pick up the game to get the rest of the story. To that end, it's very good at its job, but that leaves more to be desired for the show itself as an independent experience. The narrative style of the last episode is akin to that of Fate/Zero except much more lacking in satisfaction. We get a glimpse of all the characters after everything settles down, but not enough to feel fulfilled as the credit rolls.
As an anime production has a lot of rough edges. The opening is abstract CG. The ending is white text scrolling over black background. Half of episode 11 looks like amateur fan art. The music is equally forgettable. However, You can tell the staff cares about the show but was just not ready to handle an entire full length series. All the fight scenes and emotional moments look good, so the corner-cutting is obvious but can be forgivable depending on your taste. All the character designs look good and stayed consistent even when the quality of the animation went down the gutter.
This show is not worth most people's time, but it has redeemable qualities if you want to try something different.
