DESCRIPTION
Jongsuk is the pinnacle of mediocrity, with nothing to show for himself except his penchant for reading. One day, he finds a mysterious book at his favorite used book store. The book "tells" him to write about his experience in its blank pages, and in return shows him a related piece of information. Little did he know, the passages Jongsuk read in the books transferred right into his system, endowing with new abilities he never thought possible.

0/100OP Hero Webtoon is So Bad, It Makes Me Want to CryContinue on AniListCAUTION: REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Holy crap, this webtoon is one of the worst ones I've read so far, in terms of non-smut based webtoons (of which there are a lot out there, and they deserve their own category). Not only is the art super bad, so is everything else about it.
The hero of the story comes across an old book in a bookstore, and this book subsequently gives him super powers. I don't really understand how his power works, but the gist of it seems to be that he gets some arbitrary points for recording his experiences and he can use them to exchange for various types of knowledge or skills? At first, I think he got experience points from reading, but the author realized that it's not possible for him to read so many books, so they changed his power to come from writing it down instead. Either way, it's a pretty bizarre power that is not properly explained, and the protagonist is too lazy to investigate the origins of the book or question his newfound powers.
The male lead has no personality, and he's a perfect character who can literally do everything perfectly since he got all his skills from the book exchange. Basically, he is great at anything he comes across, and there's no one who is even close to his talents, not that there are any that really try to challenge him. There is no conflict and each chapter is dedicated to showing off how supposedly good he is at everything.
But my main problem here is how the artist is terribly bad at their job in trying to depict the brilliance of his performances. Like for example, he's supposed to be a master calligrapher, but the so-called masterpiece calligraphy he produces are laughably bad. I was almost mentally crying with frustration from looking at the chicken scratch calligraphy that rich, grown men were clamoring over and saying it will cost millions of Korean won. Like seriously? Even I can write better calligraphy than that, and no one is paying for me to write such basic standard calligraphy, let alone millions of Korean won for it.
And then he got the experience of cooking and oh lord, the webtoon went even more downhill from there. It's like the author wanted to do a Shokugeki no Souma type plot line but failed amazingly at it, then continued to roll with it like they knew what they were doing. There's lots of drawings of panels where they're eating to show his food expertise, and the artist of this webtoon cannot draw appealing food worth a shit, since all the food looks like blobs of different colors, and then you have the characters gushing over how delicious and appetizing the food is. I think I lost some brain cells from reading that...Not to mention, despite the so-called expertise of the main character, the author clearly did no research and just randomly spouts ridiculous stuff using their characters which make absolutely no sense, like how pork is easier to eat than beef and how sweet potatoes work with tteokbokki. I can't even...They also don't have a clue on how to describe food like a food critic, and so all the male lead who is supposed to be an expert taste tester can say is, wow the seasoning is so good! Followed by a bunch of weird nonsense. He carries some small bag of ??? to "fix" his food so it tastes good, but there is no seasoning in the world that can fix every single dish. It's not a one-size-fits-all type of thing, seasoning needs to be done precisely and adjusted accordingly to what type of dish is being cooked. Gosh, I'm not even a professional chef, and that is common sense when you cook at all.
And did I mention that the male lead is also a Michaelangelo, so he's a master painter too, and he paints awful drawings that once again, everyone praises him to death over. Honestly, the art style is so different from the whole style of the webtoon, I'm pretty sure that it was copied and pasted from somewhere else, and it's not even that good. Sighhhhhh.
Oh! Also there's a small harem of females that's building itself around him that I forgot about since it was boring and I don't care for what is happening anyway, because there's no plot.Short update of recent chapters...
Guess what, the male lead has a superstar actress girlfriend who he saved from some thugs on a beach. Oh, and he decided to major in Oriental Medicine because he CAN. Pshhhh. The webtoon seriously goes down the drain, into the sewers, and mixes with all the foul shit in the existence of webtoon history. It loses all sense of realism. I have some background in Oriental Medicine, and what he's doing is not it at all. It's some stupid hocus pocus pseudo-medicine. You cannot detect a brain tumor by feeling someone's pulse, and you cannot use a microneedle to drain it out. Ridiculous and utter nonsense. It wouldn't even pierce the skull due to how thin and fragile it is. Also, that's Western medicine right there, and not Oriental medicine. And now he can also telekinetically lift cars with his hand movements and turn hair into acupuncture needles. I'm not making this up. I'm just reading to see how much more stupid it can possibly stupid, but I would advise others to not do the same. Please pass this webtoon, it is a travesty.

70/100Unique take on a rather common tropeContinue on AniListI don't normally write these reviews because 2200 characters is a pain but since the only review here is so rediculously negative to the point i can't understand I'm here writing it. This is hardly a work of art but the first 120 chapters (I recommend you ignore the last arc as it seems quite random) but it was quite enjoyable.
The main character gains experiences through a book obtained in a bookstore, this experience provides him the abilities of those who had written in it before him and the ability to gain these abilities is given through writing any experience regardless of how mundane the experience would seem. This experience is in multiple categoreies and explored in quite a unique way which creates a particular perspective that stands out compared to its peers and makes it worth the read.
It's quite refreshing difference for a story where the MC becomes talented and strong in comparison to the setting it is in. This is due to the MC maintaining a kind attitude thoughout caring for others, which is used as a method of him obtaining strength through helping people. There is also a decent romance aspect within this manga, while it's not the main focus and more framed in a way of providing "experience" it is portrayed in a more mature way than most other of this type and more of a traditional relationship than let me squeeze your oppai.
The actual coherence of each plot point is rather fluid, this allows the story to make sense and actually makes you empathise with the characters and due to the mangaka maintaining all the characters traits throughout makes it seem like it's written with some thought.
The translations for the version of this that I read were quite coherent (at least to me as someone who has read a lot of manhua so you may wanna take that with a pinch of salt.
Overall, I recommend giving it a go as it has a less typical show of an overpowered mc who is an highschool student. Even if it's just a few chapters to see if it is your style. Even if it's just to see whether the other review on this manhwa is overly negative.
Now, here are small spoilers that don't ruin story but contain plot points for those that aren't convinced.
What makes this different is how it's actually not mainly martial arts like all the others it starts off with a focus on cooking and calligraphy, which then progresses into medicine and a bit of martial arts (sure it's in there earlier but it doesn't become much till towards the end except for making him ripped af). I will say the way that each individual skill is shown isn't overly impressive, however it's due to focusing more on character building and the experience gained rather than the task themselves, which is what to me makes it stand out. And as such thorougly enjoyed this piece.
However, naturally it would be better if the way the skills that were shown was higher quality and as a result could add an additional dimension to the story by fully bringing out the art, but it doesn't diminish the overall quality and story that is worth the read.
And hence why I would score it 70/100. This is based off of a comparison to various manga, manhua and manhwa, just from a pure enjoyment standpoint.
Enjoy ;-). (flamingfalconman on here or sauceholder elsewhere)
