90/100Literally everything I could ask for in a romance manhwaContinue on AniListSemantic Error really has to be the best romance manhwa I have ever read with its compelling characters, humor and stunning art. Its actually insane how much I love this and its torture having to wait 10 days for the next episode.
Our protagonist Chu Sangwoo is a Computer Science major and an extremely logical person to fault along with his strict rule abiding personality. During a group project, Sangwoo is teamed up with a bunch of freeloaders, so he does what we all would have. Remove their names from the presentation. One of the free loaders who has his plans all messed up and has failed to graduate, decides to confront Sangwoo. In comes Jang Jaeyoung, a popular campus star and Design student that seems to have everything going for him and he is downright furious. Then ensues a rollercoaster of pranks, banter, tension and frustration between the two.
Plot
Semantic Error does not really focus on having an elaborate plot but instead focuses on the relationship between Jaeyoung and Sangwoo. All the while, its extremely enjoyable and hilarious with the situations that they have to deal with while navigating through their final years of college. As the story progresses, we learn bits and pieces of Sangwoo's and Jaeyoung's family and past as they learn more and more about the other.Characters/ Romance
Sangwoo is a very meticulous and thoroughly organised person with a very interesting mindset and thought process. He sees the world logically whereas Jaeyoung is spontaneous and does whatever he feels like doing to have his fun. His approach is more laid back and relaxed, confident that everything will work out. They are complete opposites of each other and start of absolutely hating the other person, always bickering and arguing. Once Jaeyoung starts interfering with the inflexible Sangwoo and his schedule, Sangwoo is exasperated and only wishes to go back to his perfect world. Initially, Jaeyoung just wanted to play and mess around with Sangwoo for a bit but as they spend more time together, the more Jaeyoung decides that he wants to be a good senior to him. Sangwoo is wary of this new change and still doesn't like Jaeyoung, but soon enough Jaeyoung becomes a part of Sangwoo's daily routine. Sangwoo starts to develop feelings for Jaeyoung but disregards and ignores them as 'carnal desires.' Jaeyoung on the other hand is very attracted to Sangwoo and comes to terms with this attraction. Every panel that they are on together, you can just feel the tension, chemistry and desire between them. After a kiss and many misunderstandings, Sangwoo and Jaeyoung decide to try out being 'partners' to see if this desire will die out after facing the problem head on. Its really fascinating seeing Jaeyoung help out Sangwoo and trying to understand him when Sangwoo's just a bit scared as he's never felt this way towards someone before. They finally start properly communicating and being honest with each other while the emotional and romantic attraction grows and grows. While Jaeyoung is charming and gorgeous, he can also be childish and jealous but his flaws make him a complex character. Sangwoo is a genius but his emotional intelligence is low and he has trouble understanding other people. Even though he comes off as rational and closed off, he can also be very vulnerable and sensitive. They're both very complicated individuals trying to sort out this very complicated relationship.Art
The art is pure eye candy and its just beautiful with the contrasting colours that represent Sangwoo's and Jaeyoung's conflicting personalities. I love the character designs and how everything is drawn as well as the backgrounds. Conclusion
Semantic Error is a must read for fans of romance or if you're just looking for something fun to enjoy. There's also a Korean drama for this which did not disappoint at all.I also made a playlist if anyone wants to listen as they read -https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7p3vRzQFmlEdopsUya30s8?si=2ec048206dab451f
