DESCRIPTION
A young orphan was alone in the world until he meets the master of a secret form of martial arts. To learn these otherworldly techniques, he will need to endure years of his sadistic teacher’s grueling and weird training. But why does he have to do laundry, cook meals, or play instruments to learn martial arts anyway?! If he can survive long enough (and if his massive ego doesn’t get in the way), he just might be able to wield the unstoppable lightning knives. Will he make the cut or be sliced down to size?

75/100Menial tasks to become the strongest in the world?Continue on AniListA simple story of a child raised by a mysterious yet powerful figure... (Grandpa?) Well, it wasn't what the child expected at all. Cleaning, cooking, hunting, foraging, and so on are the training our MC has undergone at the age of 10. His life, growing up, and training to become the strongest in the world! That is Lightning Degree.
//Honestly did not expect to make a review. I was bored and coincidentally wanted to make a review.//
I may have made it sound greater than reality, but it was a fun read nonetheless. Overall, the story is very slow-paced in addition to numerous side stories or "tangents" that occur. But I find the slow pace to be just right for the manwha.
For the art of the Lightning Degree, decent overall. The style is easy to look at and is very cute (Yeonbi and Ai Rin was such example). Nothing was highly detailed but neither was it lacking in any aspect.
We follow the journey of the MC, after losing his parent picked up by a master of martial arts to be his disciple. Many rebut and qualms were made at the beginning being a child and having to work an absurd amount. But slowly the MC and even I the reader got used to what once was a crazy task to become so mundane. As the story progresses we meet a cast of characters some wacky, powerful, royal, and many more.
With that said there were also some points where I hoped were more impactful. The antagonists of the story are pretty plain (or just have not gotten the chance to shine yet). A great story is composed of a blood-boiling enemy, but it all felt flat in my opinion.
~Over this part there will be SPOILERS till the latest chapter~
Throughout the story the concept of a master-disciple relationship to me was endearing. The MC master arc was a fun side story that made me realize "Having all that power must be lonely." You notice the hellish cycle that the MC once experienced passed unto a cast of nobles and martial artists. Many argue at first but soon were "convinced" to train and they all eventually get stronger.
I always had a thought on the back burner as to why the grandpa picked the MC. Well to put it simply, they don't have anything better to do perhaps even just lonely. Notice the arc where the MC left the lightning gate to explore the outside world. His old master enraged planning to storm out of their home, foiled by clever planning. Notice the reminiscence of memories that the master had about the MC of different ages. It truly was personally a favorite part of the story.
