DESCRIPTION

A terrific josei smut that I reread right away
I've never written a review so this may be a bit of a scattershot and stream of consciousness style more than a critical review. II saw this suggested as a particularly steamy romantic josei (and I was very tired of "cutting away to fade to black/skipping to the morning after" types of comics).

There are so many times I feel disappointed by what is supposed to be a josei smut because the emphasis is either solely on the FMC, or it's a bit vague with the male. This is not one of those times! Lots of great visual perspectives showcasing our male lead and his physique both from his abs to his mussy hair and a terrific variety of expressions. Both bodies are shown at times (though I will never complain for even more detailed thighs and such). There are a few times where it can be wonky if you let yourself drift off in focus to the side for legs or otherwise but I believe it's trying to be POV. Nice hand detailing, great blush detailing and micro expressions. Personally, I also enjoy the look of the male lead here too (if you like tired eyes and guys who get flustered while also being confident in intimacy, he's all that with a bow on top). The "friend who seems nice but is actually pining for the FMC" is subverted here in a way I think is interesting (actually supportive of her AND a bit sadistic but not towards her).

The most 'surprising' part of this for me was that the scent fetish wasn't really emphasized; she sniffs him here and there and brings it up early on but if you're thinking of the series Soap and Sweat levels of sniffing, it is nowhere close (sorry musk lovers). Not complaining but a heads up if that's the element you sought this out for.

The two main characters have personalities I really enjoy. The FMC is blunt and determined. She lets herself get irritated with the male lead and speaks her mind but also has bashful moments. She is dogged in pursuing her goals. The sexual intimacy has both of them relatively open (there are some 'ah, no' moments from her here and there when overstimulated but they have multiple times they take breaks or stop, except when she is mostly flustered and he checks IN on that. Like "oh it's too much? Oh, but you're more embarrassed than unhappy? Then alright"). The male lead is expressive and awkward at times but also confident and a giving lover without it crossing over into cheesiness. I like how he gets belligerent about being embarrassed but also has soft moments.

Anyways I reread it back to back right after finishing it for the first time. If you're reading translated scanlations versus the tokyopop version, I believe the former sometimes has extra bits while the latter tends to have a more smooth dialogue quality. Personally I found both enjoyable (is that allowed to be said here? I had to dig for some of the cut content so I hope so!). I can't wait for the ending. It is a unique pain when a series is ongoing.
