83/100great, interesting and worth the timeContinue on AniListI started reading Shotgun Boy long ago while it was still on going and i totally forgot to keep going. But now I finally ended it and decided i should do a quick review about my opinion on it and share a bit of my personal spoilers-free (mostly) experience.
It had a huge expectation break for me, I started reading knowing absolutely nothing about it and got surprised about how things turned into. Not that I'm exactly complaining about, but i really kinda wanted it to be different.
The plot ends up being about monsters and it's totally connected with another work by the same author of Sweet home, which i currently didn't read, and I've seen people saying It's amazing and it's much better reading it first, unfortunately that didn't happen to me, but we gotta keep going.
Seeing Shotgun Boy as a whole, I liked it. It was pretty enjoyable, entertaining enough for making me go through all chapters and look forward to read Sweet home that is it's sequel.
Art: 9
There is nothing to complain about, it's clean, well made, and i simply love the facial expressions. A good art behind any story makes it more satisfying to witness for sure, the scenario as well isn't bad.
Characters: 7
There wasn't really any character depth, they were all OK and stuff but there was nothing to make me really feel enough attached to any of them, but as the sensitive and humble person I am I could still sympathize to them and feel bad if they died, but about deepness there isn't that much, the mc was OK, the antagonist was kinda boring and annoying to watch (the bully guy i forgot the name), Zero was nice, I liked the image he passed to us, so he's quite a good character to me, and all the others in my mind were like "OK, they're characters", nothing really that special. It's nothing that surprising coming from like, a side story for Sweet home that has only 69 chapters, so I'm not really disappointed, because even tho there wasn't THE character development the manhwa was still enjoyable.
Story: 8
It was nice, I liked the plot, the dialogues were great, the message was reflexive, it scaled really fast and unexpectedly from what was the start until the end that doesnt even seem the same story. It was interesting the way it could make me nervous about how things would turn, make me create my own theories about how everything would end. It was not the best and most insane plot i've seen, but it didn't disappoint me in general.
Overall: 8.
I'm not the type to judge things very deeply, as it isn't that hard to satisfy me with an OK story, Shotgun Boy is a rather short and good experience, and I wouldn't really complain about anything in it, u should go for it, mainly if u already read the sequel, or if you plan to.AnimeBound
69/100Promising Start, Disappointing Finish – Riding on Sweet Home's HypeContinue on AniListHonestly, the story had potential, but making the dumb villain the final boss just killed it for me. Zero would've been a way better choice for the final boss. (I'm not talking about the final boss of shotgun boy. Most likely there gonna be 3rd series / a sequel for sweet home . The main villan hasn't died yet to it's pretty much given.) the author dropped the ball here, couldn't make the final boss more appealing.
The characters in this prequel feel kinda lackluster too—nowhere near as good as Sweet Home, and the villains are just plain annoying. It’s hard to get invested in characters who don’t really evolve throughout the story. The protagonist had potential but felt underdeveloped, almost like the author was rushing to connect this series to the larger Sweet Home universe. It’s frustrating because the world-building had promise, but everything felt half-baked. There were moments where you could see glimpses of something great, but the execution just fell short. Like, you can tell the author had ideas but couldn’t quite pull them together into something cohesive.
And let’s talk about the pacing. It started off strong, pulling you in with some decent tension and mystery. The first few chapters really had me hooked, and I thought the story was going to build into something incredible. But as the story progressed, it felt like the plot was just meandering without any clear direction. Scenes that should have been impactful fell flat because the stakes never felt real. Even the emotional moments didn’t hit as hard as they could have, probably because the character relationships weren’t fleshed out enough. It’s like the author wanted us to care about the characters, but didn’t give us enough reason to. There were moments where I wanted to feel something, but the story didn’t let me.
The monsters were cool at first, but they weren’t as much intimidating as Sweet Home. They became more annoying as the series progressed. They just… existed. There were hints about where they came from, but nothing concrete. It felt like the author was holding back too much for a future installment rather than making this story stand strong on its own. A little more background or lore could’ve made a huge difference here. Even a simple flashback or conversation explaining their origin would’ve helped.
Honestly, it feels like this series only got popular because of Sweet Home. If it weren’t connected to that, I doubt it would’ve gotten the same attention. It’s not that it’s bad, but it’s definitely disappointing when you know how much better it could have been. The potential was right there, but the execution didn’t live up to it. It’s like the author had a roadmap but forgot to include half the stops along the way.
Final thoughts? It’s an okay read if you’re just looking to pass time, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking. Hopefully, the sequel picks up the slack and delivers on the potential that this one missed. There’s still hope for the next part to turn things around, but it’s going to take some serious effort from the author to make that happen.
Final rating: 7/10. It could’ve been an easy 8 if the story had just been tighter and the characters more fleshed out.
