The oversaturation of the Isekai genre is still as prevalent as today, with random isekai series and light novels still popping off every month, putting high and mighty over its unique “quirk” but never actually getting the highs it wants to be. Despite how dense the haystack is, one needle inside shines above the rest and even burns the haystacks around it, and that is Konosuba. ***
Konosuba is a series where it takes the fantasy isekai genre and makes fun of everything that comes into its path, from the absurdity of its fantasy world to the ridiculous premise to its unbelievably addicting yet terrible characters that become good characters because of how terrible they are as people. These unique aspects of the series are being mixed together to create an over-the-top comedy isekai series that never lets go of its firm grip at the highest position for being one of the most respected isekai shows out there.
However, if you are looking for a show that prioritizes deep character development and the immense creativity of its world-building, Konosuba is not for you. The intentional stagnating feeling over its world and characters and the underwhelming exploration of the world aren't really the point of the show (Even though it has provided a wonderful sprinkle of drama in the last few episodes). The series is best described as a sitcom set in another world where you follow these absurd characters on their adventures, and you just have to laugh along the way. There's no deep character development or any huge revelation where there is a significant shift of goal for these characters; this is just a show that knows itself to be a full-on comedy show and sticks with it while also providing heartfelt moments on the side for us to be attached with these characters.
And because of that, there is concern that certain comedy animes, especially those that have a specific niche, tend to fall off as the jokes get stale as the episodes and seasons get along, but with the case of Konosuba, the series still holds firm and still provides something that's absurd, funny, and entertaining, capturing the same spirits emitted from Season 1 Episode 1. ***
If you've been a viewer of Konosuba since season 1, chances are you will love season 3 just as much as you love the entire series as a whole. The impressive feat of Konosuba holding on for being one of the funniest shows out there and still holding firm onto its plotline and jokes from the sea of an oversaturated and polarizing genre proves that the Isekai sub genre has a lot of potential to have wonderful storytelling or execution depending on the story the creator wants to tell, and for a comedy Isekai series, Konosuba is the one who will be on top for a very long while.

80/100Konosuba Season 3 remains as a great continuation to the already chaotic series, even with some issues.Continue on AniListBackground:
I (and many others) were quite disappointed to not have season 3 last year, instead we have the megumin spin-off (which is a lot less interesting but still not horrible)
When this season is announced, again i was pretty intrigued, to see the main cast return again, with a new studio
and so, i decided to watch it.(this will have spoilers lol)
Animation:
Drive has improved over the spin-off, and can sometimes rival the original in terms of quality, which is a nice addition, unlike the stiff animation their previous projects had.
The Explosion is still wonderful, and never gets boring or old, it gets even MORE EXPLOSIVE IN THIS ONE.
but most things like the character designs, movement, stayed relatively the same compared to the first and second seasons of the show.the sound design is still quite impeccable, and the action scenes, just mostly never miss (the ones with Darkness are the ones i personally like the least though.)
Characters:
It has some good, some bad, but the good far outweighs the bad, in my opinion.
Let's start with the main party:
All of them retain their characterization in some or all of capacity, except for ONE in particular, (Dark) ness/Lalatina.
She was established before as a super brave yet masochistic crusader who would take as many risks if it meant for pleasure for herself (right around in the first half), and although her masochistic side is still prevalent here, there are quite a bit (of) insane shit happening in the Dustiness family, and it really affected her, to the point where she had to LEAVE the party because of a wedding and Aldarp.
When she was "rescued" by the party, she deeply regrets leaving the party, and really missed Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin, leading up to an end on (the) highest note for her character as a whole.
On the topic of Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin, this is mostly a comedy, so character developments are not very common, although it's intentional by design.
Once in a blue (moon), Kazuma gets some reality checks up his sleeve and it's quite funny to see it in action.
Vanir: Makes a very important role in Darkness' character arc, explaining everything relating to Darkness and her own family, which makes him one of the core parts of why Darkness' arc is so great, and i liked him for that reason alone, although his own demon powers are entertaining to witness.
Next up are the new(er) characters of the cast:
Iris: Despite her isolation of the outside world, deep down she has a very endearing soul, and wanted to know more, so that's why she has to bring Kazuma into the kingdom with her, and that's pretty wholesome
I don't like her "big brother/sister" name calling though, it's kinda weird since Iris herself is a child and not blood related.
Maxwell, has a very "crazy" introduction (literally being crazy), and is quite intimidating to look as he breaks the spines and bones out of Alderp for pleasure, and it is a very scary sight despite super lacking in remembering/recalling things he needs to do.
Story:
Despite its quite promising world-building and very vibrant atmosphere, there are some complaints i had watching the show:
The story is indeed deep, but the pacing of everything seems pretty off-putting, and i don't really like the random padding out scenes all that much.
I understand the lack of exploration of the world is completely by design of the script, but, i was expecting a little more than what we got in this season, compared to other seasons, this doesn't have the same "action-y" feel as the others.
The jokes are creative, and that's definitely the main selling point of the story.
Overall thoughts
If you enjoyed this far into Konosuba, and still pissed that Drive made a Megumin spin-off (like mentioned earlier), then consider watching this new season, it's like eating that same candy bar you've had for years.

88/100The Comedy Isekai King ReturnsContinue on AniListFor anyone who has grown bored of an endless isekai craze that seems to deliver new titles every month, KonoSuba will be a tight refreshing burst of air. This show does not try constantly to importance itself, which is why what it is is so good. Unlike other murder ‘mysteries’ it is not employing original spin on the genre, it’s parodying it.
Seriously, watching KonoSuba is like swimming in a sea of absurdity and body slamming into the shores of the silliness of the show’s characters. What’s most fascinating about the series if you can call these characters is that all the main characters are terrible in every way except for being entertaining. It is this blend that results in a comedic piece that can make the isekai genre a piece of cake in which to excel.
If you are expecting complicated and detailed character arcs that are layered with heavy thematic explorations or an elaborate, culturally rich society? KonoSuba isn’t for you. This should be a show more akin to a guided sitcom where viewers watch characters hilariously stumble through a wheelhouse fantasy world. That is not to say that there are no changes in character development or in the plot, but the show can be described simply as a show with continuity focused on bringing laughter with a side of warm feelings.
Unlike most generic comedy anime that can turn quite bland, KonoSuba does not lose its comedic impact even with a third season. It’s funny from the very first episode + doesn’t lose its comedic essence consistently throughout the series.
All the fans who have been following it right from season 1 will have a reason to smile with season 3. It reminds me how great and entertaining KonoSuba is despite the fact that there are many too many anime and manga based on the premise of games like this. When talking about comedy isekai anime, KonoSuba is still leading and I do not really see anyone who will be able to overtake it in the near future.
__Scoring__ Art - 9/10
The change in the studio didn’t affect the art quality. It’s as vibrant and fun as ever, with bigger explosions and toned-down ecchi moments.Characters - 10/10
Every character is a gem. They can make you laugh and feel within minutes, which is perfect for this comedy show.Story - 9/10
While the story is confined to a few locations, it flows well and keeps you engaged.OST/Sound Design - 10/10
The voice actors are clearly having a blast, and the music always sets the right mood.Enjoyment - 9/10
Possibly the best season yet. I enjoyed every episode and look forward to more.Overall - 9/10
A fantastic third season that didn’t disappoint. KonoSuba remains the king of comedy isekai!__Hail the Return of KonoSuba! __ It’s been 7 years since the release of the first season of KonoSuba; God’s blessing on this wonderful show has led to this second season. Audiences have been waiting for the last two winters, the last in Winter 2016 and the second one in Winter 2017, and the movie released in 2019 called “Legend of Crimson. ” The fans never cooled down for this third season and they are extremely satisfied.
With reference to the “Legend of Crimson” movie, fans are welcomed back into the world of Crimson Magic Village where our rather dysfunctional team hails from. More hilarity and chaos in this new adventure involves the formation of a team with Princess Iris, as well as having to come to terms with a new Darkness.
Kazuma remains as great as ever, being a walking disaster in terms of ridiculousness and getting into hilarious misadventures. Now that the girls have a companion, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness must remain as the moderators as the series’ craziness intensifies to another level. They are nonchalant and careless in their attitudes, but it is impressive how those traits suit Akatsuki’s narrative style.
Changing from Studio Deen to Drive has enhanced the series and must be applauded. Through this analysis, it can be seen that the new team has preserved the Kono Suba’s concept while including contemporary elements. OST is amazing and they’re different from the previous ones, however the opening song, “Growing Up” is not as catchy as the previous songs. Nonetheless, there is some entertainment value to be found in the hilariously spirited ending song, sung by the show’s voice actors.
In conclusion, KonoSuba remains in the spotlight as one of the best comedy isekai shows. In any case, it is highly recommended and I believe it will please them all to dive deeper into it.
