77/100well worth the watch and a surprising, but welcome addition to the summer 2022 seasonContinue on AniListFirstly : the characters, kou yamori is a fantastic protagonist for this type of story, he is a boy that is bored with his life, so after getting a taste of the vibrancy and beauty of the night he decides that he wants to become a vampire, it’s a simple plot that is so easy to get behind because kou is actually well written for the short time we spend with him. He simply wants to have fun, and he slips out of his boring day life to have fun in the night and wants to fall in love with nazuma but cant. He is honestly one of the best protagonist this season and is a joy to watch.
The second of the main cast is nazuma nanakusa, who is a vampire that takes a liking to kou and is the main girl. She is what I believe makes the series so interesting as she takes kou with her to explore how she enjoys the night, she is a vampire that doesn’t go along with the main vampire’s ‘association’s’ ideals of how vampires must make offspring, and that conflict of ideals makes her a very interesting and fun character to watch.
Secondly : the plot, kou wants to become a vampire so he wants to fall in live with nazuma to turn into one. It’s a fun spin on the vast majority of rom coms where the main duo fall for each other but refuse to admit their feelings which makes this series so fresh and interesting to watch, seeing the duo go and d various things together from swimming, to flying around, to massages and gaming, it’s a very easy watch and I am honestly a bit upset when the credits start rolling and I have to wait yet another week for more.Thirdly : the setting, this series is called call of the night so it doesn’t make much sense for the night to not be interesting and beautiful to look at, luckily it is one of the most downright gorgeous settings I have seen in anime, the night and the city almost feel like its own character because of the colour pallet used and the downright gorgeous locations within the city, even the normal roads and building look stunning, I could only wish for all anime to have a setting as beautiful as this series has.
Fourthly : the opening and ending, they both capture the feeling of the show so well and I am not the type it watch endings, but I have not once skipped the ending, it is absolutely a hard vibe. Similar to the setting it perfectly sets up the feeling of watching this show and how much fun you are going to have/have had when watching it. I literally listen to bot the ed and op when going about my daily life because of how good it is.
Finally : miscellaneous thoughts, the cast honestly have brilliant clothing choices that scream what they are about, nazuma wears a loose coat and shows a lot of skin which shows how she is free and lives life how she wants, kou wears what almost looks like gym kit which shows how he wants to have fun and be free as gym kit is inherently light and easy to move around in which allows him to move around more freely, most of the other vampires wear clothes that show of their figure a bit more which makes sense as they aim to allure and feed on men that think in a perverted manner and wearing clothes that show off their body as to attract prey. Its honestly perfect wardrobe for each character all around, which is something that a lot of shows/manga/movies/etc don’t put as much thought into
Honestly this series is fire and is 100% worth the watch due to how much of a vibe it is from beginning to end

75/10040yr Old Vampire Predator, Preys On Underaged KidContinue on AniList#__Attracts minors and takes them to her house and they call her best girl, But when I do it...__ Plot
I'm gonna keep this one real short and simple. The story is about a young kid named Kou Yamori and he's fed up with school, morning and life in general. So he decides to start staying up late at night and venturing outside. He meets a vampire who shows him how fun the night life can be and so he wants to also become one.
Pretty standard plot if you ask me (I know in the manga the plot takes a big turn, since I am reading it). But what sets it apart are its characters and themes.
Characters
All the characters in the show are fun and interesting, they each have their quriky traits which sets them all apart and I can't think of any character I dislike.
Yamori
He's a solid character, has a strong goal and desire to become a vampire and wants to fall in love with Nazuna as part of him turning. His interactions with other characters give more insight to him, before he started venturing outside and staying up late. Though I do feel he is a bit narrowminded seeming that he solely cares about becoming a vampire and not taking into account his friends thoughts on the matter.Nazuna
She's a vampire predator, to put it simple. Preying on underaged kids and sucking blood from them xD.She's a funny character I must say, she has her goofy moments. But honestly, she did genuinely made me laugh. She comes off as a horny, creepy ass vampire; but whats underneath is just a goofy, funny person who likes to play games. Not to mention Minecraft and fighting games lol.
She does say inappropriate jokes to Yamori from time to time, but truth of the matter is, she's just insecure about herself and gets embarassed when she feels the other end of the stick.
Akira
She's Yamori's friend, she's quiet and mostly keeps herself to herself. She does talk to Yamori about his fantasy of becoming a vampire and supports him, but also thinks of the concequences and the events that may take place afterwards. She's a good supporting character, with a slight backstory, just wish we can get more screentime over her to delve further into her character.Going into more characters would be spoiler territory, so just watch it for yourself!
Music and Themes
Absolutely amazing, music is on point, the opening and ending songs are both great and nothing more to say about it.Theme and colouring of the show are very good, showing the neon outside and contrasting it with characters depending on their presence was a very nice metaphorical touch. The colours really brought out the POP in the surrounding environment.
Final thoughts
The anime is good, go watch it. It's a chillfest. Of course it gets better in the manga and the plot takes a turn so get reading after you've watched the anime.Overall 7.5/10 Thanks for reading!!! Mcsuper
91/100One Of The Best Showings Of Nighttime Ambience I've Ever SeenContinue on AniListThe night is a very unexplored landscape for many of us. Some of us perceive it as dangerous and scary, and some others perceive it as a time to party, to let themselves go, and for most of us, we’re probably fast asleep. I’m sure a lot of you have experienced a time in life when you just didn’t want to fall asleep, perhaps because you weren’t satisfied with what you achieved in the day, or you feared what tomorrow will bring, but rest assured, in Call of the Night, the night is viewed as a beautiful time, and a time to release all inhibitions, a time to have the time of your life, so dream on, and imagine yourself in the wonderful dreamscape!
Tomoyuki Itamura, the director of the highly acclaimed Monogatari Series, and the Case Study of Vanitas, is back again for yet another vampire themed anime, and what a job he did! The background composition looked absolutely immaculate, to the point where I have those purple skies as my phone wallpaper. The art direction really evokes a sense of imagination, as it allows us to imagine how alluring the night can look, and combined with great chill music from Creepy Nuts, the atmosphere is quite perfect for this anime.
My grading criteria: Story: /25 Art: /10 Music: /10 Characters: /20 Enjoyment /15 Thematic Execution /20
STORY: 19.8/25
The story starts off relatively slowly, focusing on Kou Yamori, a boy who was quite despondent about his everyday life. He struggles to grasp the concept of love, and stops going to school altogether one day. Plagued with insomnia, he ventures out into the dark of night, and one night, he encounters a very peculiar girl called Nazuna Nanakusa, who has quite the belief about how people can’t rest until they release their inhibitions. Nazuna helps Kou out with his insomnia, and invites her over to her place, where she reveals herself to be a vampire! Having experienced this incredible night, Kou finds himself wanting to be in the night all the time, so he wants to become a vampire, but turns out, you gotta fall in love with a vampire to become one!
The story itself isn’t strong at the start admittedly, as many episodes were focused on the bonding between Nazuna and Kou, along with other characters as well, some of whom that eventually find out about their relationship.
Where it turned for me, in terms of enjoyment, was the fact that vampires, however attractive they look, and whatever fun it seems like they’re having, there’s a darker side to everything, and becoming a vampire isn’t the best thing ever to happen to a person. Aside from that, there are also a number of excellent themes this show tackles, such as how romance and friendships work, the sickness of the human condition, and every human’s inner narcissism, in that humans and vampires alike want to be liked, and paid attention to.
A quick comment about the fan service now, because I know that’s what a lot of you will criticize. The non-vampire fan service is a bit much, but the fan service of vampires I think was quite necessary for the plot, to emphasize the beauty of them, and when we learn about the other sides of vampires, it really makes you think how such beautiful creatures can have such difficult lives too.
ART: 9.8/10
The art is really quite spectacular, and definitely the thing that stands out the most. You can really see the experience of the director, and some sequences look as brilliant as some scenes in Monogatari, which is really saying something. The nighttime ambience is just done so well.
MUSIC: 9.5/10
Also amazing, as the OP and ED are excellent both visually and musically, as well as the excellent soundtrack by Creepy Nuts. Great vibes, and it fits so perfectly with the nighttime ambience, heck, it even adds to the ambience.
CHARACTERS: 19/20
Not only are the characters so fun to watch, their voice actors really do a great job. Nazuna’s such a fun character, really nailing the comedic aspects and also her badassery. Considering her voice actor, Sora Amamiya, voiced Chizuru from Rent-a-Girlfriend, and Nazuna, really goes to show how good her range is, and what different roles she can play. Now our other main character, Kou, is honestly a severely underrated character. From being quite the clueless and despondent guy at the beginning, to being able to stand up for others, and voice his opinions without holding back is great development, plus he was even able to gain some empathy for others. Even for his age, he feels oddly mature in a way, even though he is naive and misguided for sure, especially for skipping school as much as he does. One more character worthy of so much praise is Anko Uguisu, as her voice actor Miyuki Sawashiro really nails her character so well. The comedic aspects and the intimidating aspects of her character were done to perfection, and Sawashiro’s performance was incredible.
ENJOYMENT: 14.7/15
I enjoyed this a ton, with the production and the characters, really impressive stuff.
THEMATIC EXECUTION: 18.5/20
With the ambience of the nighttime, the imaginative theme of the night is really done to near perfection, while Nazuna and the other vampires create a sense of playfulness and have such a jovial tone to them. When the story picks up, the themes of danger and intimidation are also done with great care. Just such thematic brilliance, and while there are slight jarring tonal shifts at times, I never found that a glaring problem.
OVERALL: 91.3/100
Probably one of the best non-sequel series of the year, as it creates such an immaculate atmosphere, and also featured some great characters and themes as well. Brilliant visual direction, and an engaging story near the end. This is a series I would wholeheartedly recommend, as it’s quite the easy watch. The night is short, walk on boys and girls!
