"Make the most of your present"
We all hear these quotes, something about our precious time, something about the limit of life. But it just feels impossible, that no matter how much I laugh, cry or feel; there's always a regret that pains me, there's always something in the future that frightens me.If there's one thing Kaoru Touno regrets the most, is his last words to his little sister, "I hate you too". He suffers over the fact that his little sister died while trying to catch a beetle for her brother. If there's one thing Anzu Hanashiro fears the most, is being not talented. Not talented enough to become a manga artist, not able to fulfill her deceased grandpa's dream. But they find a tunnel that's rumoured to grant any wish, in exchange for their now, their present. So they decide to work together and enter the tunnel, but the tunnel is its own world, with its own rules of time and space. They waste their present together, chasing in the tunnel to make their wishes come true. Touno, to get over his past and Hanashiro, to get a future. Both of them sympathize with each other's struggles, in the time they wasted together, forming a bond together.
This is a story about these two characters; one who's coming to terms with his past and one who's finding a future to fulfill her grandpa's dream. The tunnel is a labyrinth where time runs slower than the outside world. Our characters go inside the tunnel for their past and/or future, but one thing they ignore is that, spending too much past or future makes you forgot about the present. While we are hung up on our dreams and mistakes, the world around us moves away. And it can never be bought back.
The cute romance takes the spotlight, but the movie is too short to give a fleshed out development for its characters. As for the visuals, studio CLAP really did well. Every scene including the tunnel is mesmerizing. The music and songs are alright. I only wish the movie was a bit longer and gave more screen time elaborating their struggles.
I think this is a good movie. Though I wish it did a bit better at a few elements, it is about a boy coming to terms with his regrets of past and a girl finding the courage to overcome her fear of future. And the present they found together.
Conclusion I think it's hard to live in the present, when so much of our past & future, define and is defined by this moment. When the way we lived and the path we chose define us; but it's more important to realize that this moment will never come back. We can never live in the past, and we never know if we live in the future.
We live here and now. Edit:
Forgot to mention, as @AzuraErys said in her review, the movie is not properly subbed in English. For more details, visit her review.AzuraErys
50/100The romance portrayed in the film was mediocre at bestContinue on AniListBased on my experience, watching Tunnel to Summer without knowing any storyline & its trailer, I am so sorry to say, no, I did not like this movie one bit!
A schoolboy meets a schoolgirl at the railway station and gives her an umbrella. Typical start to a romance to be honest. And they seemed like they were cute together but.. Honestly I did not really care for it.
Honestly, where do I even begin with this review?
The movie, in general, was so very very hard to understand and it got boring after a while because well, nothing made sense at all.
The romance portrayed in the film was mediocre at best, unless there were some remarkable aspects that were lost on me due to the lack of translations. For instance, there were no subtitles provided for the text messages and emails, which were probably crucial for understanding the movie. It was actually so annoying, many times, my boyfriend and I stopped the movie to complain about this, but we proceeded on HOPING to make sense of this disaster. He was very frustrated with it, but I was very hopeful trying to continue to watch the movie.
Honestly, subtitles are such a big part of understanding movies and animes in general. So, we found the subtitles to be very distracting and hindered our ability to enjoy the movie thoroughly. Instead of being completely immersed in the story, my boyfriend and I struggled to decipher and make sense of the incoherent sentences presented on the screen. Consequently, the movie became nearly unwatchable for us, and I doubt others would fare much better in understanding what was happening.
I guess I'm saying good luck watching this when you probably won't really understand what's happening.
However, I must acknowledge that the film's visual aesthetics were remarkably captivating. It was undeniably beautiful to look at, which makes it all the more disheartening that the subtitles were practically unreadable.
In summary, the sole redeeming factor of this movie is its visually pleasing nature. Unless you simply want to admire its aesthetics, I would advise against wasting your time on it.
Perhaps I am being too harsh with my review of Tunnel to Summer movie? But this is something I would have 100% loved to know before watching this or any anime or movie for that matter. I always look at the reviews before watching something and had there been any comments that said "Hey the subtitles aren't so good, you probably won't understand the ENTIRE movie, watch at your own risk" or perhaps something along the lines of “this movie has fansubs and might not make sense” that would have been really, really nice to know beforehand.

30/100An incredibly disappointing adaptation of an amazing light novelContinue on AniListThis review contains spoilers for The Tunnel to Summer, The Exit of Goodbyes movie
Gonna be real honest here, the trailer looked promising, and the premise is one of those supernatural and drama story with a meaningful message. The movie had the potential, but it failed to do so.
1. Animation (8/10)
Studio CLAP is not a really well-known studio with very few works in the past, so my expectation wasn't really high but still, the animation is one of the things that shine in this movie. The colours and contrast fits for each scene, especially the sceneries, the overall color tone is pretty gloomy which fits with the sad atmosphere of the movie (for the most part) The shots inside the tunnel looks really unique and mesmerizing and creates a feeling that this place is from another dimension. Character design is also pretty normal too with nothing much to say. For instance, here are some shots from the movie:2. Soundtracks (8.5/10)
The music in this movie are very emotional, Eilli is the singer for the song Finale and Pre-Romance and these 2 songs fits perfectly with the overall tone of the movie. Overall the OST and theme songs of the movie fits incredibly well with the movie and characters, they are sad songs and gives off the vibe of a tragic love story.- Playlist of all OST in the movie:

3. Storyline (4/10)
Note: The English subtitles for the movie is currently messed up, so the score and opinion in this category might be biased
This is unfortunately where the movie has the most problems with. Both Kaoru and Hanashiro's character development throughout the movie practically made no sense at all, and there are a lot of unexplained events in the movie. Their first encounter was at a train station on a rainy day, where he offered her his umbrella. They exchanged contacts with each other so that she can return him his umbrella, but it didn't take until the end of the movie for her to do so? Despite them meeting up several times throughout the entire movie to explore the tunnel together, why didn't she return the umbrella then, but have to wait until they meet at the end of the movie? What's even more confusing is the fact that they are both in love with each other, the buildup to this feels really empty and practically non-existent. Throughout the entire movie, all the interactions between Kaoru and Hanashiro doesn't really justify a close enough friendship, all they did was explore the tunnel together, going to the aquarium together, Kaoru complimenting Hanashiro's manga, and that's pretty much it... In other words, it was simply just a mutual interest (being the tunnel) that brought them together, besides that, there's basically no real major events that would lead to the progression of their relationship. Another problem has to do with the tunnel itself, there's not much explanation of the tunnel either. All we know is that time in the tunnel works differently to the real world, there's no background information like the origin of this tunnel or some people's past experiences with it. The trees in the tunnel greatly intrigues me too but either it's the subtitles, or no info is given on them either. My guess is that those things on the trees are like fragments of memories of the people who have gone in this tunnel, or something like that.At least the backgrounds of Kaoru and Hanashiro is portrayed decently, with Kaoru's family being broken apart ever since the death of Karen, the little sister, and Hanashiro getting kicked out of her house by her parents due to them not accepting her dream of becoming a mangaka in the future. Kaoru's struggle with coming to terms of his little sister's death and Hanashiro's courage to overcome her fear of the future. They both have their own struggle and desire, and both of them share the same interest to use the tunnel to make their dream/desire come true.
Overall, it might be due to the english subtitles being messy that my experience with this movie is ruined, however, the problem likely comes from the anime itself, not the source material (as according to this comment), due to the length of the movie being not enough to flesh out the character development and events.
EDIT: After finishing the light novel, I can confirm that the movie skipped 90% of the content from the ln.
This is a movie that I really wish I could put a higher score since these kind of premises is something that I absolutely love.
