1/100A show so uncomfortable it could be classified as torture.Continue on AniListMy life as Inukai-san’s dog delves into the life of Karin Inukai who just picked up an abandoned dog off the side of the road, who happens to be the reincarnation of a random classmate of hers who has a crush on her.
Now every single human being upon hearing that is thinking “Sounds like a premise for a slice of life, right?” and you would be absolutely wrong. Instead we got one of the most fetish pandered “How is this not hentai???” TV shows I have seen in a while. Some of the scenes that have gotten me on a watchlist or landed a spot to hell are included but not limited to:
- Generic pantie shot number 18 (I lost count)
- Standard boob shenanigans
- The dog’s tail used as a penis, several times (yes, this is real)
- The dog’s snout going straight up Inukai’s panties after she gets hit by a ball (I do not understand the quantum physics behind this)
_High quality artist’s rendering, showing a screen capture would get me nuked off the platform._ - Inukai getting extremely turned on by her dog taking a piss and recording it (this somehow happens on the same episode as the previous one)
Sounds fun? Absolutely isn't, every scene has had me make a facial expression I don't think I have ever made and had me screaming "what the fuck is going on" more times than I could count. Calling this show psychological torture isn't far off. It's one of the closest things to torture I can find in the whole anime sphere, I'd go as far to say this show is breaking the Geneva convention if it for some reason appeared at a battlefield.
Characters? They’re high school stereotypes that can be described in 1 word and they’re all women, because this is porn without intercourse. It's actually quite disturbing that the author tried to give them personalities due to the characters being really sexually attracted to a dog, which is very uncomfortable. Who would have thought?
Plot? What’s that? Enough scenes with booba can replace actual writing and storytelling right? The only continuous plot point the show tries to execute on is why the main character is a dog and him figuring out how to turn back into a human. Spoiler (if you're still genuinely interested in this show's plot): the way to become a human again is to of course kiss Inukai, which happens several times. So why come he didn’t transform back into a human? The reason why he didn’t transform was because he didn’t straight up French kiss her. At this point I would’ve been more respectful for the show to ditch a plotline entirely.
The people who watched this based off of the synopsis and title alone got for the lack of a better word trolled to another universe. Despite knowing what I was getting into I didn't know just how degenerate this show would've been. This show can only be enjoyed when drunk out of this world, which is heavily helped by your memory of this show being wiped out of the universe due to the alcohol. This show deserves negative points, but sadly it’s not possible so I’ll result to a solid:

100/100My Life as Inukai-san's Dog: A Brilliant Masterpiece of Characterization and Plot DevelopmentContinue on AniListBefore we begin the review, I would like to express a heartfelt thanks to my parents, my sister, all the people who supported me through these tough times, my laptop screen for enduring it with me, and the animation studio for making the episodes just twelve minutes long. Second, I would like to convey earnest apologies to my parents, my sister, my Internet Service Provider, God, and all the people in my life who had hopes for me.
Our protagonist wakes up to the rain falling in his face, and a high-school girl, Inukai-san, telling him, the dog, that he's her pet now. Already, the anime distinguishes itself from the rest by putting the viewer into a first-person POV, which is used masterfully to illustrate how the perspective of a canine is worlds apart from a human's as the POV pans upwards from her feet, thighs, stomach and chest, to finally come to rest on her face. At this point, everyone except the protagonist is aware of the fact that he is a dog in the literal sense, showcasing the depth of the author's genius when it comes to characterization: Inukai-san is talking on the phone about bringing a dog home. Our dear main character does not realize she's referring to him, demonstrating to the viewer that his intelligence has also reached the levels of a dog's.
Next, we see the author, Gosei Furukawa, further flaunt his skill at character development and theme-setting when the protagonist notices how the rain is soaking through Inukai-san's school uniform, to expose her undergarments. This reveals her maturity and love for the protagonist as she lets herself get wet very wet despite having an umbrella since she is focused on keeping him dry.
She'll later name him Pochita. Chainsaw Man viewers must be rejoicing that such a great and lovable character shares the name of their beloved anime's main character. Inukai-san then takes Pochita the dog with her into her shower, and then later, her bath. At this point, the viewing experience had become incredibly difficult (for no particular reason), so I had to speed the anime up to 2x speed. This forced me to focus all my efforts on reading the subtitles so that I would not have to look at the visuals. This, however, back-fired because now, against my will, the complete power of my vigorous imagination was compensating for all the artwork I was not witnessing, putting all efforts of the animators to shame with vivid mental imagery. Shortly after, I developed a well-known defense mechanism, common among viewers of "My Life as Inukai-san's Dog," called "dissociation," which allowed me to absorb the contents of this wonderful story without impacting my emotional and spiritual chakras.
Watching this anime was a journey of the mind and the soul. I discovered the five stages of grief, as theorized by psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, from denial, anger, bargaining, depression, to, finally, acceptance. I even had the time of my life laughing at the various psychologically taxing and, frankly, humorless, scenarios presented by the anime. If someone had peeked into my room at 3 A.M. that night, they would have found me scrolling through Reddit, looking at raccoon and opossum GIFs to bring my soul respite. I would also discover, around the same time that night, that looking at dog GIFs, in particular, had become painful for some reason.
I believe I have come through this incident a stronger and more capable human being, ready to face the world once more because surely it can only go upward from here; unless they decide to make a second season.
