DESCRIPTION
--What color is your world?
It has been about 10 years since "Perception Art" was born in the art world. Nowadays, it has completely permeated the world and is a colorful part of people's lives. Kazuya Yamanashi, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Yamanashi, the creators of Perception Art and also famous "artists," has just entered Eisen High School, a prestigious art school, with his childhood friend Jun Tsuzuki, with the dream of becoming a Perception Artist himself.
Kazuya had another goal in mind. It is to regain friendship with "another childhood friend" who started avoiding him after "an incident" that occurred 10 years ago...
Kyou Takise, whose father is also the creator of Perception Art and a well-known "grader," is a junior grader majoring in Perception Art at Eisei High School. He is a childhood friend of Kazuya and Jun, but has been avoiding them for years. Kyou's heart had scars that could never be revealed.

1/100Google Glass: The BL anime. The whole premise of this anime was doomed from the start.Continue on AniListGoogle Glass: The BL anime. The whole premise of this anime was doomed from the start.
Enter the 'Sci-Fi' of perception art - it's literally Google Glass (or the highly ridiculed and memed Apple Vision). This concept was invented by one of the MC's parents (Kazuya). Fast forward 10 years and now our MCs are going to school for this so-called sci-fi concept. How is this Sci-Fi if the concept is literally something we already have? In addition to that, the cast eventually gets divided into two groups, which is known as Graders and Artists. Anybody would be able to predict that this will end up creating some of the most mundane drama possible. The anime attempts to make the premise more interesting by shoving some more melodrama halfway in, but it falls completely flat and it even gives aneurysms. It's just painful to watch, and the fact that this is labeled Sci-Fi and not Boys Love is just completely false advertising.
For an art-themed anime, the characters are as far away from art as possible. You have Kazuya, the boring genki guy destined for greatness. Then there's Jun. Your stereotypical childhood friend character. However... The anime completely shafts him despite being listed as a main character! Kyou holds back some trauma, which makes him potentially interesting, but he's so unlikable that it's hard to even pay attention to whatever possible character development he faces. If you thought the relationships in other drama-heavy anime such as Domestic Girlfriend and School Days is toxic, just wait until you see this. It's not even the kind of dumpster fire that people want to see. It's literally walking into skunk spray. Artist/grader relationships are so uninteresting yet so toxic. To top this all off, they start introducing a ton of side characters that are as monotone and monochrome as possible. Any sense of character development that might have happened is ruined by how flat and dull all the main and side characters are.
So, that also brings art into the question; It has colors in its name, so it must be a visually appealing anime, right? WRONG Just look at Yuru Camp, another anime by the same studio. Literally a CGDCT about camping has more color and better visual quality than a visual arts anime with color in its name. Opus.COLORs uses some of the most monotonous color schemes out there. Every character looks like they're dulled out visually, and the same can be said about the backdrops. On top of the atrocious color scheme for what the anime's topic is, it also uses visually unappealing CGI. I'm generally not too critical of CGI in general, but having this on top of a story that's DOA and characters that make Nina Einstein and Hina Sato look well written, this just adds injury to insult. The CGI makes this already unbearable disaster of an anime literally unwatchable.
Given that this is an art-based anime, one would be forgiven to expect good quality music, but remember: this is Opus.COLORs, not Nana. It's not Bocchi the Rock either. It's just a garbage seasonal with uninspired music too (okay, may be calling it garbage is too generous). While the voice acting from the cast isn't that bad, any positive here is completely drowned by the amount of other things Opus.COLORs does wrong.
Do you enjoy watching paint dry? I mean, that's still technically art related because it involves paint. If you do enjoy watching paint dry, I have good news: this anime might just be for you. When your main cast is so boring and the anime fails to even make the viewer even want to know about the side characters, there's literally no enjoyment to be taken from this anime. it's the kind of anime you just watch while playing Minecraft or something while going autopilot with mining. Or, better yet, let this anime run its runtime while reading some quality manga. I ended up doing both these things while trying to watch this anime.
A closing note:
Remember, this anime has colors in its name, yet it's outdone in color by a slow-paced CGDCT camping anime. This anime is one of the most soulless and painful anime I've ever had to sit through. I could have spent my time rewatching some actually good anime. I spent my time staying on top of this bullshit instead of Birdie Wing S2 all because I don't drop anime. When an anime is DOA with the story, there's not much that can be done. Just watch any other anime out there; this feels like they tried to string a whole bunch of bad MVs together.
Opus.COLORs is the worst case scenario for colorblindness ever.

50/100If You Don't Use VR, You Aren't a True ArtistContinue on AniList(Originally Reviewed on Serializd)
Yabba dadda doo, no intro this time cause I can't think of an anecdote right now, IT'S OPUS COLORS, EVERYONE! I had never heard of this show before researching it a while back, and since it was one of the only anime that wasn't listed on Letterboxd (seriously, they have a million of those over there, like what the fu-), I figured I would go ahead and give it a shot. It didn't look like anything too exciting or interesting from the poster, but as they say, you should never judge a book by its cover, but instead, you should judge a painting by its contents, so I dived into the contents of this painting here, and what I found was a piece of "art" that was.... wholly uninspired. While I wouldn't say this show was bad by any means, it is extremely generic, not really having that many unique elements to it to make it stand out, even from outside of the world of anime, and while there were definitely some good moments here or there, I was left bored through most of the whole thing.
The stories is extremely generic, with them starting off by tackling one aspect of these kinds of show that felt generic and uninspired, but by the end of the show, they completely switch over to another aspect of these kinds of shows that feel generic and uninspired, which only made it somewhat less boring and predictable, the characters were whatever, with all of them blending together not just in terms of designs, but also in terms of personalities as well, and aside from Kazuya, Kyo and Jun, none of the other characters stood out as interesting or that likable, the sub was fine, getting across everything it needed to, but there were plenty of grammatical errors to be seen, which did become more distracting the more they popped up, the animation is ok, with it getting the job done and being generic as heck, not going out of its way to be anything too special, with one exception that I will get to in a bit, and it ends off exactly as you would expect it to end, with it being sweet and heartwarming, so I will give it that at least.
As I have made perfectly clear already, most of what you will find from this anime is very generic and lazy for any kind of TV show really, but there were one or two elements that I did end up really liking. First and foremost, throughout the show, Kazuya, the main character, has this ability where he can... I dunno, "see" the art he looks at in a different way, and whenever he uses this ability, it changes to a complete different animation style with a whole-ass song thrown over it. These are the best parts of the show for me, because not only is the animation in these segments so much better then the one the rest of the show has, but they also have oodles of imagination and personality, making me wanna see some of these visions turned into actual shows in this exact style. And speaking of the art, that is one other thing I liked about this show, which was the concept of Perception Art. This is the main element this entire show is themed around, where it is a new kind of art form that is presented with these VR headsets, where you can not only see and admire it all around you, but it has advanced to the point where you can even feel and smell it as well. This is already a pretty neat concept, and the other elements surrounding this art form and how it works in this world was also really interesting, and it made me want to see more of it in action.
Unfortunately though, this is also where my main issues of the show come in. For one thing, the show gets sidetracked WAY too often in terms of the storyline. It is clear that they didn't have enough material to focus on for the entire 12 episode length, so we will have episodes that will be vaguely themed around the main story, but will instead mostly focus on random side characters and whatever they are doing, while also helping out with their problems. I don't mind this approach to storytelling, per se, but the problem is that not only is everything else around these plotlines SO much more interesting in comparison, none of the other characters they do focus on are that interesting themselves whatsoever, making it so that I would just sit there and hope that they would move back to the main conflict as soon as possible. Which speaking of, the main conflict itself is also generic as hell, where you can pretty much guess exactly what happened with Kazuya and his conflict early on, and whenever you do reach the point where it shows what happens, it is effective, but it would've been so much better if it was foreshadowed more effectively.
Overall, despite some very interesting concepts and some really cool moments here or there, this show was mainly just a generic bore from start to finish, one that was fine enough to watch, but one that also doesn't offer anything too fun, engaging, or outside of the norm for me to ever consider memorable or impactful in the slightest. I would recommend it for those who are HUGE anime fanatics, especially for these kinds of anime, but for everyone else, there is nothing here worth seeing, so you are better off just skipping it. Besides, it reminds me of how we don't have Perception Art in real life, and that is just sad. Yeah, we got VR, but you can't feel or taste VR!........... at least, not yet.
