It’s finally here. After agonizing yesterday the entire evening over when it will eventually air on Crunchyroll until I gave up and went to bed, it’s here, and I could watch it.
As I already mentioned in my part 2 review, I’m a manga reader and I adore manga, so this was very exciting (Don’t worry, there will be no spoilers going beyond how far the anime is right now, but this review will contain spoilers for this episode). I neither had the commitment nor the time to stalk official YT playlists or analyze which tweets get retweeted from that animator or the other, but I was looking forward to this very much.
So. How did it turn out? Was it amazing? Or disappointing overall? For me, it fell pretty much into the realm of expectations. It wasn’t cinema, but it wasn’t bad either. It was good, although I do admit in a bit of a disappointing way of “good”, as I hoped a little that it would exceed my expectations, that Hayashi may show me something which I couldn’t dream of even if I tried. That is not to say that they didn’t try to make this adaptation their own - There are plenty of additions, particularly when it comes to 131 and the rumbling, which I don’t recall reading in the manga and I liked all of them.
Hanji’s death was also my favorite scene, it hit hard to be reminded of the weight she carries, her recalling her comrades, and her final scene with Levi and her taking on the colossal titans. It was the only scene that made me tear up. The soundtrack for her sakuga sequence was nice as well, we got some very nicely animated sequences for the reunion of the alliance and the founder too, they delivered pretty well in this regard.
Regarding production quality in general I have little to no complaints. It never hits the point where I say it looks phenomenal, but it looks consistently good even with its detailed character designs. The 3D-2D mixing continues to be solid, and they utilize 3D in some cuts pretty well, although I think they could’ve pushed it even further. And, this founder still looks goofy. It needs to be said.
I also enjoyed just seeing all these characters again. The sequences with Armin and Annie are lovely, although it is bizarre in contrast to the rumbling happening in real-time of course, as Annie points rightfully out. I also like how Mikasa immediately realized what was going on, her expression is so cute. I know, this is the grand finale, but I enjoy these little things.
If there is anything that I have to point out as a flaw in this special, it probably is that it’s only that “good”. As I said before, I hoped it to be even more, particularly 131 which was just exhilarating to read in the manga. Even with all the additions I appreciate, 131 in the anime didn’t hit me to the bone as I hoped. The most important still here is also framed badly, but moreover, the overall package just wasn’t that good. It wasn’t able to replicate the feeling I had when I first read the manga.
To sum up, Attack on Titan is still going strong and Hayashi and his team delivered. I have my complaints, but this is a solid adaptation regardless, and I’m happy to have it. Very much looking forward to the 2nd Part, which will wrap up this series finally! Can’t wait to see certain moments animated. I also like the theme song from SIM, not as much as the rumbling, but I think I will listen to it more. It’s a nice callback to the first ending of Attack on Titan with its visuals too.

85/100[SPOILERS!] A little inconsistent in tone and a couple of nitpicks here and there but still pretty amazing.Continue on AniList--> THIS REVIEW SPOILS THE ENTIRE EPISODE <--
After part 2's horrible animation this was actually pretty easy on the eyes, the CGI might be the best it's ever been in the series.
There were certain points where the story was kind of out there and didn't make a lot of sense but nothing that would break the story as a whole.
My gripes with this episode: -
It was too cheesy for a story this serious in tone up to this point.
-
The scene with Hange in the afterlife should have been deleted because it goes against how everyone's life is the same and even important characters like Erwin aren't the camera's favorite and die in the same manner everyone else does with no emphasis, but on the other hand I really really like this scene XD even though the implications of an after life existing in this universe is way too big to be introduced this late in the story and makes the Survey Corps members' sacrifice less meaningful.
-
The way the characters speak to/about Eren is also very weird and out of character, all of these characters have lost so many comrades up to this point, it is literally their entire job, they've even killed some of them themselves, why are they so concerned about saving Eren's life? He's literally going to end the world, if killing him by using Armin's colossal titan takes 5 minutes less than talking some sense into him and if in those 5 minutes a single innocent life can be saved then killing Eren shouldn't be their last resort, it should be their first!
-
The characters are too chummy, I can understand Armin and Annie talking comfortably because Annie is grateful to Armin for talking to her for so many years and Armin is partially in love with Annie because of Bertholdt's memories, but I can't understand Mikasa and Annie having a little girl talk, there's just too much bad blood, the same goes for Jean and Reiner.
-
The "this is freedom" scene should also have been deleted because I can't imagine the same Eren who apologized to Ramzi would look at all the slaughter in his wake and say "this is freedom".
Other than that it's pretty amazing, the Rumbling scene is the darkest AOT has ever been. The reveal about the female titan is great, it's amazing that we're still learning about titans and finding out why the Attack Titan's body melted when Annie was crystalizing, I always assumed the female titan's ability is crystallization and the Attack Titan melted because... she was using too much energy and it got hot? I never really gave it much thought.
The explanation of why Eren isn't stopping them from stopping him also made a lot of sense and had to be addressed.
I liked that Floch was defeated one last time before finally shutting the fuck up for good, my least favorite character gets the most satisfying death, he's the only character that I can say is inherently evil.
All in all, pretty good, could have been better but definitely could have been worse too, my score definitely seems too high considering how many problems I had with this but I just don't want to repeat what people have already said in praising this part and wanted to bring some new perspective to the table.

90/100By far the best MAPPA has to offerContinue on AniListThis Review Contains Spoiler for Attack On Titan The Final Season Part 3 Cour 1
Note: This is the first review I have ever made so there might be some mistakes, and this is mainly more like my opinion than a review
Attack On Titan is back, and safe to say, it is amazing.
After what feels like an eternity of waiting, it's finally here. This is gonna be once again, another controversial adaptation due to the anime getting closer and closer to the final chapters of the manga, which is hated by a portion of the fanbase. Like adding fuel to fire, the decision of spilting part 3 of season 4 into 2 smaller parts pretty much have everyone (including myself) wondering what the studio is even thinking, and tbh I even think that this is just a cheap method of marketing coming from MAPPA. Seriously, "The Final Season Part 3 Part 2"? That just seems ridiculous.
However, all of that aside, it's obvious that Quality is always what we care about the most, and honestly, I think mappa truly nailed it this time. Why, you may ask? Well..
As someone who has read the last 9 chapters of the manga, there are a surprising amount of anime-original content in this episode, specifically the Rumbling sequence, seeing everyone desperately running for their lives, crying, screaming and getting trampled on are truly terrifying, along with the incredibly eerie music makes this whole sequence send chills down my spine, it really shows how devastating the rumbling is, and how Eren is committing literal genocide.
The pacing of the episode also feels a lot slower and more drawn out than the manga too due to there being lots of new scenes, which will be beneficial for the plot overall too. The animation also is very consistent and I didn't spot any badly drawn scene, the music that plays during Hange's final fight to buy time for the scouts is pretty emotional. The ODM sequence of Hange killing the colossal titans is probably the smoothest ODM scene that MAPPA has done so far, really gives off WIT's vibes back in season 1 to 3. They beautifully animated her catching on fire and fell down to the ground, sacrificing her life for the Scouts to move on.
The Paths scene was also great, MAPPA truly took their time to drew even the smallest details like the branches of the Paths trees, making it look a lot like the manga. The whole episode overall is beautifully taken care of in basically every frame, and I truly think people need to chill with the hate towards MAPPA (not talking about them overworking their staffs), sure this whole spilting up the final season is ridiculous and such but if this is the end product, then honestly I don't really mind.
Really hope the staffs working on aot are getting enough rest, because it's surprising how good this episode came out despite their tight as fuck work schedule.
This is undeniably the best season of aot so far.
