10/100This will be anime in 2040.Continue on AniListWith every anime season there’s a minimum of five terrible new fantasy anime to come along with it. Genre fatigue has been slowly setting in for years, and nearly every one of these glorified internet fanfics have been derided as “power fantasies” or “self-insert series” by people who actually care about the quality of the media they consume. Extremely bland peerless main characters plowing their way through any obstacle and hundreds of indistinguishable girls in increasingly trite fantasy realms seems to be the basic establishing formula for these series, most of which were written on novel websites made for the sole purpose of getting sheltered Japanese teenagers a chance to become a regular Nisio Isin (if he had zero literary credibility). Name any seasonal anime that sounds even marginally like what I described and it’ll probably have spawned from one of these places. They don’t even have to be isekai anymore, that’s the really tragic part. The cancer has been metastasizing into other genres. It’s basically an endless content farm for fledgling hacks who think originality is unoriginal, the ones who keep using the same exhausting story beats over and over because they genuinely can’t conceive of anything better. Beast Tamer happens to be one of the worst to rise from these kinds of places in recent memory; a series that falls onto the production line already pre-assembled, ready for mass consumption and unlikely to induce any kind wonder, awe, or intellectual stimulation of any kind.
Seriously every episode gets progressively less and less separable from every other foray into the genre that by the time I reached episode 13 I couldn’t even remember the name of the show. Was I still watching Yūsha Pātī o Tsuihou Sareta Bīsuto Teimā, Saikyōshu no Nekomimi Shōjo to Deau or was I watching Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita? Or was Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai wo Sukuu you desu? (Fucking Christ stop letting these people write their own titles. They’re longer than some chapters in their own novels.) Summarizing the plot of this show would take too much effort, when it deserves so little; basically this boring asshole named Rein gets booted from a party of annoying one-dimensional asshole adventurers who do nothing but bitch and moan about literally everything (everyone in-universe hates them too because this show lacks subtlety), since his incredibly useful and niche Beast Taming power isn’t strong enough to reach their specific standards (even though they recruited him in the first place, I’m not sure why it suddenly became a problem after what seemed to be years of companionship because the show doesn’t explain anything about any of the characters’ reasonings) and he goes from place to place using his talent to pick up chicks to add to his harem-party. They all happen to be unfathomably overpowered too, so they all team up to fight monster designs traced from a middle schooler’s How to Draw Manga book. Then they meet the boring asshole heroes again and predictably beat the fucking shit out of all of them in the least cathartic fight ever “animated”, I’m talking 5 FPS here, and after being defeated they offer Rein his position back like a bunch of NPCs and he predictably says no, because who would give up crushing monster girl pussy every day for a bunch of the writer’s high school bullies personified? They fight a demon at the end of something too. They have another Microsoft PowerPoint battle, Rein uses some dumb new power to save the day, they meet a new ghost girl, everyone still hates the asshole heroes, and nothing else happens to meaningfully change the status quo. If you think I’m oversimplifying it, you’d be wrong, because I’m actually making it sound even more complex than it actually is.
I can’t imagine why anyone would watch this kind of creatively bankrupt slop; I’m not even trying to sound pretentious here. I like Fairy Tail for God’s sake. I’m just dumbfounded. Getting through a single episode of this shit nearly put me to sleep, because within the first 2 minutes I had already predicted nothing engaging would happen for the rest of the episode. If an uncultured Philistine like me struggled to watch half an episode of this series without convincing that my life was critically lacking in some form of intimacy, I hate to imagine what would happen to the most prodigal media analyst if they tried engaging with this. They’d probably lose the will to live upon seeing how far anime has degraded as an artform. I might sound a little defeatist here but it’s hard not to when the medium you’ve loved for years has become almost unrecognizable, just a corporate-controlled springboard for mediocre writers to keep regurgitating the same content for years instead of trying to hone their talents. 90% of anime looks like this now, and even then not many other forms of media are faring well either. Art used to be about constantly challenging yourself to create something only you could make; but now it seems like anyone could make half the stuff you see on tv or in theaters. It’s not hard to imagine why so many people are even more depressed and unfulfilled than ever; all their routes of escapism are slowly becoming homogenized and boring, and art only exists to tick off boxes on a checklist to appeal to the stupidest kinds of people. I fucking hate Beast Tamer, I hate that it’s getting a second season, I hate “web novels”, I hate isekai, I hate what the anime industry has become. It’s just the same goddamn thing every month. If any aspiring writer picked up a pen one day and made something genuinely special, something that doesn’t fit into any preconceived molds and fills others with inspiration, one that an AI couldn’t replicate with minimal effort, it’ll render corporate-approved swill like Beast Tamer completely worthless. Please everyone, go out and write a story no one else can. Don’t let this be the future.

50/100Scraping the bottom of the barrel.Continue on AniListYo. Do you ever watch an adaptation and wonder...
"_Where did it go wrong?_" ...as you struggle to finish a series? This is one of those series I've really struggled to get through.
This review WILL be spoiler-filled because it already took away my precious lifetime in exchange for knowing how good of a person Rein is.
Did you know Rein is such a kind person?
Sigh. This series has the most cult-like propaganda for the penultimate form of a fantasy harem MC, of one who possess no flaws at all, and can charm girls to instantly loving him the same week they meet him with a single gesture.
For those unable to read part of my subtext, this review will be DRENCHED with sarcasm, due to how torturous the sessions to watch through these series were.
For the quick tl;dr, the adaptation is alright, but the source material is terrible. If you just want to oogle the art or the females, be my guest. At least you'll have a more enjoyable time than I will.
So, spoilers.
Story: 3/10
Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou Sareta Beast Tamer, Saikyoushu no Nekomimi Shoujo to Deau (somebody please help these fantasy authors out with their titles. I get it is the easiest way to deliver a synopsis of your work, but that's what a synopsis is for) is about Rein Shroud who gets kicked out of the world's hero party for seemingly being useless. The reason he gets kicked out is a reason you can find from a box containing a lottery of generic excuses to kick someone out. And before you get any ideas, everyone in the party is a one-dimensional bad person with no discernible reason as to why they are so.To recap, Rein possesses the ability to tame any species and empower each other through that bond, henceforth the name Beast Tamer. Showing sadness about the situation, he resolves to become an adventurer instead. He carries with him an extremely tragic backstory where he is told to play in the woods all day, yet he comes back to his village razed to the ground with no survivors. Absolutely tragic. Got me gasping, crying (it didn't). In the present, he tames a variety of 'ultimate' species such as a Cat Spirit, a Dragonoid, twin faries, as well as fifth member that I didn't bother remembering past a certain point.
He encounters various things I will now neglect to mention because they all made an imperceptible impact on the story besides putting Rein in a position to sulk for a minute, before being told by his companions that he is a very kind and generous person who thinks of everyone but himself.
Later on, he encounters his former party which showcases the power of one-dimensional personalities versus the kindness of Rein and his companions. Using the power of the Beast Tamer class and how kind Rein is, the hero party is swiftly dealt with before moving on.
Somewhere past 6/7 episodes, some corrupt noble decides he likes the twins (as young as they look) and wants them for himself, but our kind and great Rein steps in to show his moral superiority and deals with the situation handily, earning more brownie points for the twins.
At some point, I've become convinced that these last couple episodes are just to set Rein up to be praised by the town for how nice and kind a man he is.
I was proven right. The climax of the series happens when a benefactor (you know who it is, I don't need to spell it out for you considering how predictable it is) helps out a noble and gives him the power to raze the town and our kind Rein to the ground... wait a minute, raze the town to the ground? Rein is involved, and the town he lives in may burn down? Oh my goodness we have a story on our hands!
...if I was being incredibly ignorant or just uninformed of the genre, I'd be somewhat surprised. Instead, I just laughed harder. In pain.
At every point of the story, Rein Shroud showed no signs of visible vulnerability (or personality flaw) making him an extremely boring MC. Not to mention, his normal good actions as an adventurer causes his companions to fall in love with him... in nearly the same week they meet him? Am I missing something here? Also ALSO, we must mention that Rein is a great and kind person who never does anything wrong, and he is extremely grateful for those who would be angry on his behalf.
To be honest with you, I really wanted to gouge my eyes out from the boredom I experienced through this. But I couldn't, because Rein is such a kind and great person, how could I do that to myself? I need to live on knowing that Rein is an extremely good person, and that his faults (non-existent as they are) are only human (even though he possesses an extremely godly ability to tame numerous overpowered species of people).
Please help me.
Cast: 5/10
I'll keep it brief.Rein Shroud is an extremely awesome person who is the most kind man you will ever meet and know about. His backstory is more than enough to tell you that he is an extremely burdened individual who only wants to make a difference in the world. If you don't know that, his companions (of which at most, he's known for a month or something) love about him.
In other words, he's akin to watching paint dry. Wait, at least paint drying has some interesting properties such as the time to dry, the effect it has on the surface it dries on, or even how temperature affects its speed and texture. Rein Shroud is less interesting than that.
The girls around him are also cookie cutter to an extent, and you'll have seen a caricature of them in other shows (done more tastefully). However, if you only care about looks, then I guess they're the best it'll get for the show.
Hero Party is bad. They kick out MC. They must be bad. They lose to MC. They are bad, and they are bad.
So yeah, it's a 5/10 because the girls seem to be dealing with something. It's extremely non-specific though, but that notches the group above everyone else.
Audio: 5.5/10
They're okay. I like the VA's.Visual: 6.5/10
They are fine for the most part. Bonus for consistency, if nothing else. Additionally, it looks like the animators tried to have a little fun with some of the characters with their personalities, so more points for that. For the thorny (you know who you are), I don't think an uncensored version exists for that one episode. Regardless, if you like looks, then they're okay as visual go.
Overall: 5/10
I give this a personal rating of "Garbage", and a recommendation for everyone to skip this whenever possible. It's probably the most tame (pun intended) "Kicked out of the Hero's Party" anime as far as that trope goes, but it's extra bad for how Rein and the cast are portrayed. Minus points for the story being extremely doo doo, though the majority of these flaws seemingly come from its source material. At least we now know that Rein is a kind and good-hearted person.
At the very least, Tania kept my sanity intact.
