80/100A light-hearted, fast-paced one-cour adventure, that will make you feel all kinds of emotions, with laughter prevailingContinue on AniListIf you think anime shows are about beautiful or flashy visuals, then do not try to watch Human Bug Daigaku. However, it is not always about visuals. I have always disagreed with people that put animation over anything else; actually, I think what makes an anime good is “that something”. Human Bug Daigaku has many “somethings”. It is a show with plain art and almost non-existent animation, that does not take itself seriously when that is not needed. But it knows how to entertain its audience very well and includes comedy – which I find hilarious - combined with a well-built, intriguing mystery. Also, it is an educational anime since there’s brief random trivia analysis in every episode, usually mixed with comedic scenes.
Some may not know that Human Bug Daigaku is an anime adaptation of a YouTube web manga series of the same name. The web manga is long, and includes many stories – one of them is the story of Satake Hirofumi. Surprisingly for non-Japanese audiences, it has millions of views and is very popular in Japan. That’s another point to be made when I explain why Human Bug Daigaku is such an unjustly unpopular anime show, and it deserves more attention despite its poor animation quality; it makes it clear that it's not just a random anime. Now, let’s go to the story.
Satake Hirofumi is accused of murdering his wife and sentenced to death. Surprisingly, despite being hung, he gets out alive. We learn that he is generally the luckiest man in the world, and that’s how the mysterious story starts. We do not know the truth, we get to meet many suspicious individuals, as we start to like and root for a, now amnesiac, Hirofumi. A man who sets on dangerous adventures and – somehow - always survives. Something very strong in this anime is how most of the characters Satake meets are interesting and easy to remember, as they all have their unique character, backstories, and relationship with him. In addition, the show takes place in many cities and even different countries, which makes the experience more amusing. But what’s most amusing and memorable about it is how it keeps its light-heartedness from beginning to end, and even when things get dangerous, there is always love and optimism.
The comedy might not be for all audiences, but it includes a unique, goofy sense of humour, it is well-combined with the story progression, there are many inside jokes created as the show progresses and is faithful to what it is. On the other hand, even if we know that the main character is invincible in a way, the mystery is always there, and week by week I was agonizing over what may happen next. There is ingenious plot progression, and you never know how things will turn out.
As much as I love the writing of Human Bug Daigaku, I also love its voice acting cast. Tomokazu Sugita performs splendidly once again as the main character, but there are many other great performers to be mentioned: Hidenari Ugaki as the crazy Professor, Takehito Koyasu as the torturer Shigeo, and more.
Opening and Ending songs are both pluses for the anime. The OP is a typical nano anisong, and nano is usually loved by anime fans. The ED is a totally different thing, though. Catchy as hell, retro-ish and playful, Bad City/Bug Human by Lowland Jazz is a great fit for the show’s vibes. To conclude, I only want to say that I wrote this review to make more people watch Human Bug Daigaku, and to express my approval of animated series with plain animation. I did not put much effort, but I hope it is enough to persuade some of you to give anime like this a chance. Because Human Bug Daigaku is a fun show to watch when you’re happy, when you’re sad, when you’re bored, when you’re eating, when you’re trying to sleep, or when you want to give a hard laugh with your friends. Basically a successful show, as far as I’m concerned.
Thanks for reading :)

89/100Human Bug Daigaku: The Animation Is Unique, And Good In Other WaysContinue on AniListHuman Bug Daigaku: The Animation Is Unique, And Good In Other Ways
One of the anime that I think is a hidden gem for Fall 2022. Yups, I actually watched this anime without any expectations. I was interested in watching it because of its unique title, "Human Bug Daigaku". "Human Bug? Hmm, what's that supposed to mean?" Because that's what triggered me to watch this anime.
At the beginning of watching, I was immediately presented with a slightly different animation. "Hmm, maybe it's more suitable if the title is Animation Bug Daigaku, right? However, okay, I'll keep watching."
In the end, I also guessed why this anime is called Human Bug. Yup, because the main character of this anime, Satake Hirofumi, is a human who can be considered as having a bug.
"How did it happen?"
Satake I call human bugs because he is not like humans in general. He experienced many events that threatened his life, but miraculously he was always able to survive these events. Satake is a very lucky person who can always survive dangerous events. Even because of this, he was nicknamed the immortal human.
In episode one, we are presented with Satake who will be executed by hanging because he is suspected of committing a murder. However, as I stated before, Satake Hirofumi managed to survive and live from the death sentence.
The following episodes are also quite exciting and tense because we will see the adventures of Satake trying to survive various things.
I think the comedy in this anime is also quite fitting. Not too overdone, but also not bad. The point is it can make us entertained.
Tomokazu Sugita, who voices Satake Hirofumi, has also done his job well. He can convey the figure of Satake who is only an ordinary human and really suits Satake's character even though with that kind of animation. Likewise with other characters such as the Professor, Chie Negishi, and others.
The theme song is pretty banger too. I think the opening brought by nano suits this anime. The ending theme song is no less catchy. The lyrics, which are just "Bug Human Bug, Bug Human, Bug Human Bug", I think are quite eargasm in the ear.
Btw, one of the things that I really like as well as an added value from this anime is that in each episode there is definitely a short random trivia that we will get. So, besides getting entertainment, we will also get additional insight from this anime. The problem is, it's rare for anime to have trivia like this, let alone those that are explained directly.
I am quite satisfied with the ending, even though this anime uses an open ending. Overall, I highly recommend this anime for those of you who can be comfortable watching anime whose animation is somewhat different from anime in general.

85/100The dark horse of the seasonContinue on AniListPlot
When reading the synopsis for this show, I was hooked in by the part of the main character surviving an execution. How did that happen? What happens after? These questions urged me to watch ahead. At first I thought it would be about research on someone immortal but it turned out to be so much more than that. We were taken on a journey through Hirofumi’s life after the execution and how he narrowly escapes death, learning fun facts along the way. This trivia was fun to watch and I certainly learnt some interesting things.I can firmly say that these 12 episodes were filled with suspense, action and a bit of comedy. The whole show was very well paced and there were no confusing subplots or side tracks. We are always guessing what happens to Hirofumi as he tries to regain his memories and runs away from trouble. But one thing is clear: however life threatening the situation is, he will survive. The show is wholesome as well as he meets many friends along the way who help him in this journey. The anime covers themes of the value of human life and being able to trust others. The first half of the show was a little light as we see glimpses of Hirofumi’s past. However, the show picks up in the latter half when things get more thrilling and we start to piece together the truth. There is really not much I can say without spoiling the show but you will have many surprises in store. The ending was cleverly done.
Characters
The characters were well written. You’d think they would only appear for one arc but they come back one way or the other. The friendships were genuine and this was important for Hirofumi’s survival. One character which I found interesting was the punisher. He makes you think, is torture the best way to serve justice? His scenes were comically dramatic. The pair of robbers that Hirofumi met in Mexico were also entertaining and gave him some hope despite his calamity. It gave the viewer some light hearted relief from the danger that Hirofumi was placed in.The supporting characters were memorable and had their own quirks which gave the show its color. I hoped to learn more about the scientist. Though he seemed mysterious and creepy at the start, we eventually did ot learn much about him.
Animation
The animation was the most striking part of this anime. It is not your typical animation but that did not stop the show from bringing out its intended effect. The voice acting was amazingly done to compensate for the static animation. It really made the anime live up to its adventure element. The OP was fine but the ED did not stick out to me although the animation was cute. The animation while explaining the trivia parts were also creatively done and it made the facts more digestible.Overall, this show had a refreshing concept and executed properly. The enjoyment factor is no less as compared to other anime despite the different style of animation.
