70/100Same old rent-a-gf, but this is as good as its gonna get.Continue on AniListThree seasons. Rent-a-Girlfriend made it to three seasons. This is probably the most hated romcom of all time, and the reasoning is valid honestly. It's a pure degenerate fantasy for single men. Hot "girlfriend" off of dating app falls for degen, professional relationship turned fluffy romcom where both sides are interested but nobody makes a move. The manga is so atrocious that I don't even want to talk about it. This is a review for season three of rent-a-gf. And i'll give credit where credit is due. It's still trash, it's still abhorrent. But this is as good as it is gonna get without a doubt. If you like trashy romcoms, buckle up because you get that and more with rent-a-gf season three.
Let us start off with the plot: Chizuru Mizuhara's acting career is on the rise. As the star of this world, she wants to put her name out there and what better way to do that than a movie. Kazuya Kinoshita senses an opportunity, and thus, the movie arc begins. With the entire cast working towards one goal throughout the season, it creates some genuineness that really isn't present in the previous two seasons. It adds an element of attraction regarding the series that keeps you coming back for the next episode to check in how the movie is doing and one other significant plot point that comes later. Without spoiling, it is a major event and kind of depressing if I am being honest. Given the script of the series, as one big wish-fullfilment fantasy, I don't think anybody expected for the writing to turn like that, although it was only momentarily. Ironically enough, the series devoid of any morals explores the topic of loss and grief in a manner which was realistic and inspiring. Although slightly cliche, the main focus of this season was executed masterfully I dare say. If I was an anime-only (just quit while you are ahead), I wouldn't have expected such a turn in quality AND plot in season three given that season two was abysmal even in comparison to season one which wasn't great either. I can safely say season three is the best of the three seasons by a landslide and is probably the peak of the series.
Characters: Kazuya Kinoshita. Degenerate number one. I really hate his voice actor, the guy really gets on my nerves. Say what you want about him but I can't just bring myself to root against him. He doesn't really do anything problematic and he is geniuinely kind to the people around him. Yeah his character and personality doesn't have much nuance or development but he's very commendable when he isn't simping like a rabid dog, which is rare sadly. The other real main character is Chizuru and Ruka, Sumi only gets like two appearances so there isn't anything to talk about there. Season three is mostly plot driven so the characters don't really change, Chizuru and Ruka are still the same people as they were. Nonchalant for Chizuru and Tsundere/clingy Ruka. Nothing new here. Also a new character named Yaemori, I could stand her humor, but I could REALLY see a lot of people getting extremely pissed off by her.
Soundtrack/Voice Acting/Animation: Soundtrack is average mostly, maybe slightly above average. Good opening, ok ending, in the key/emotional moments I really liked the soundtrack. I HATE rent-a-gf's voice acting, it feels way too artificial, minus points for that. Animation was stellar, the special effects are really cool and mimic the manga very well, and it maybe outdoes the manga at times.
To conclude, if you stuck through the garbage that was the first and second seasons, I would honestly encourage you to try the third season. It wasn't bad and I mostly enjoyed it. If you liked season one/two, you will LOVE this. If you hated season one/two..... you probably weren't going to watch anyways. Final Score: 7/10. Thanks for reading

64/100This Was Good, And I Can't Believe I'm Saying ThatContinue on AniListI shed a tear to Rent-a-Girlfriend??? What has the world come to? Is this reality?
Rent-a-Girlfriend is at the butt end of a lot of jokes in the anime community, and hated by many, understandably so. You might ask, then why are so many of these losers watching this absolute joke of a show? There’s a simple answer. We eat unhealthy foods all the time, we have fast food, instant noodles, sugary junk, that we all know is bad for us, but we still eat it anyway. If anything, RAG does a nice job in keeping the fools coming back for more, by sprinkling in some of that MSG. Say that Chizuru is asked if she likes Kazuya, and you know she can’t say yes, because that wouldn’t drive the story along, so she says she doesn’t like him, but doesn’t dislike him. That last line is so frustrating, but it’s that MSG that keeps you coming back, because at this point, we’re all so deep into this rabbit hole that we can’t escape, just like many can’t escape the clutches of junk food. We all say we hate RAG, but how much do we actually hate it if we’re coming back for more? To you manga readers, I salute you, for getting through three hundred chapters of this dumpster fire. You all must be the soldiers of the god that is Reiji Miyajima.
If you’ve been paying attention to the animanga community, most people have said that this arc is the peak of the story, and compared to the previous two seasons, I would have to agree with that sentiment. For RAG standards, this is honestly really solid, but compared to the rest of anime, it’s fine, though there were some great moments this season that caught me a bit off guard. There is a level of development for Kazuya, the main character, although he is still the guy that he always was, but unlike the previous seasons, there seems to be a better sense of narrative direction, as Kazuya attempts to produce a movie for Chizuru and for her grandma to realize her wish to see her granddaughter on the big screen in a film. In the process, the lie of Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship is finally tackled, something that dragged on for far too long.
A nice addition to the cast this season is Mini Yaemori, a bundle of fun energy, and she boasts one unique trait, the fact she isn’t in love in Kazuya, and was the supporter for Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship. She brought in some nice humour, and was definitely one of the best parts of this season. Chizuru has long been a very boring character to me, as she’s just seen as the “perfect girl”, which to me, is just very uninteresting. However, as she’s the main female character, the story direction must revolve around her a bit, and some of the developments this season certainly elevated her character to somewhat greater heights. Sumi is as wholesome as ever, and Ruka is just… there, though she had some nice moments as well.
It’s junk food in the end, but at least this time, it was more palatable junk food, and as much as we love to rag on this anime, let’s be real, you’ll probably be back for that eventual Season 4. Let’s not lie to ourselves, yeah? See you then.

70/100Easily the best season yet which isn't saying much (SPOILERS)Continue on AniListAfter the atrocity that was the story in Season 1 and the slightly less bad season 2, I am pleasantly surprised that Season 3 of Rent-a-Girlfriend is not in my bottom 5 anime of all time. In fact, I think that this season could even be called good. Not one episode in this season is nearly as bad as any of the episodes in Season 1 or the first episode of Season 2 simply because Kazuya in this season is not a total freak who stalks a Rental Girlfriend. Don't get me wrong, I still don't like him very much, but in this season, he actually does have a commendable goal with no ulterior motives. Him wanting to make a movie starring Chizuru simply because he wants to support her and make her happy is a step forward for his character and the overall story. Another possible reason why I enjoyed this season more than the previous is because Mami is nowhere to be seen at all which is just a great decision since she feels forced into the story whenever she appears.
To put into perceptive how much better the writing in this season was compared to the previous 2. The first season of Rent-a-Girlfriend made me physically uncomfortable during the episode "Christmas and Girlfriend" as Kazuya stalks Chizuru for an entire day which makes up most of the episode’s runtime which kind of happens again in episode 1 of season 2 where Kazuya once again follows Chizuru around without her knowing. In contrast, there were moments in Season 3 that made me cry because of the build-up beforehand. I will admit that I did cry during season 2, however, that was during the last episode of season 2 and that moment had zero notable build-up because it was a backstory for a character Rent- a-Girlfriend. Not saying that Chizuru's backstory was bad, more so I just think the sad moments in season 3 were done better.
So, you may have noticed by now that I have only really talked about Season 3 of Rent-a-Girlfriend being good when compared to the other 2 seasons. That's because despite season 3 being an improvement over the first 2 seasons, it's still not a ground-breaking show or anything close to that. It's probably less interesting to talk about than the other 2 seasons because unlike those 2, this season isn't really bad. There are decently high highs and somewhat low lows. Some parts genuinely made me laugh which is obviously a good thing but it's not enough to make this a MUST WATCH, especially since you have to get through season 1 and 2 to watch this.
One of my favourite things about this season is the new character, Mini Yaemori. I don't think there's a scene with her that I don't like which is crazy considering what show this is. She is funny and tries to push the story forward. She's witnessing the complicated relationship between Kazuya and Chizuru just like the audience except that she can actually try and push both characters into the real relationship we all know is going to happen eventually. Another thing that I like about her is she isn't just another girl to add to Kazuya's harem that he somehow has. She genuinely feels no romantic interest towards Kazuya and is instead fascinated by him and how insane his current situation is. All of this makes her my favourite character in the series so far and it's not close at all.
The OP of this season is decent as the visuals are nice and I like the song. I like it more than the season 2 OP, however, the season 1OP is better in my opinion. The ED, however, is my favourite so far. The visuals are good and somewhat nostalgic (as much as I hate to admit it) as moments from the series so far pop up on the screen and I'm a big fan of the song.
The visuals are great which is one of the only consistently good things in this show. The colours are vibrant, the art it beautiful, and the animation is good. Not much more to say really.
In conclusion, Rent-a-Girlfriend season 3 is enjoyable and is easily the best season so far even if it's not anything too special.
