60/100An entertaining and humorous show that showcases the joys and challenges of pet ownership uniquely and hilariously.Continue on AniListIt looks like China has decided seriously to enter the field of animation aiming to tame it.
And, if many are talking about Link Click (for legit reasons I may add), that is not the only one that portrays growing excellence and a personal "home field" that the Chinese are bringing into the world of anime.
The Donghua "My Cat Hates Me" or 就喜欢你看不惯我又干不掉我的样子 aka I Like How You Hate Me but Can't Get Rid of Me (and I guess it is referred to the humans!) is a show that follows the daily life of a young Chinese cartoonist who struggles with his work, his pets, and his father. The plot of the show revolves around the protagonist, who is a manga artist, and his two pets, a cat named Supremo and a dog named Bazaar.
Supremo, the cat, is snobby and regal, and the crown of a king on his head enhances his appearance. He is the typical cat who is nonchalant and always on top of the game. Bazaar, the dog, is an emotionally traumatized but well-designed Pug, and his reactions and emotions are delightful to watch. The show brings out the differences between the two pets' personalities, with Supremo being the bossy one and Bazaar being the more submissive one.
Hail to Supremo, a chad of a cat. The humour in the show is poignant, sharp, and quick for a laugh as we go through a set of misadventures mostly sprung by the duo of pets. The show highlights the joys and challenges of pet ownership, showing the daily life of the protagonist with his pets in a hilarious way. The animation is cartoonish and adds a touch of international flavour, reminiscent of the Kids' shows from the '90s. The style is polished enough to make it enjoyable, but not too polished to damage the enjoyment.
The show also introduces other characters, most notably the protagonist's father, who is devoted to Bazaar and considers him royalty atop his son. The father's love for Bazaar adds another layer of humour to the show. The Donghua has a 4-minute runtime for each episode, but it manages to bring out the unique personalities of the pets and their misadventures in a comical way.
In the original Manhua version by Bai Cha, the pets' names may be different, as Your Highness and Bubba Boo were the names of the pets. However, in the animated version that I saw, the names were Supremo and Bazaar. Overall, "My Cat Hates Me" is an entertaining and humorous show that showcases the joys and challenges of pet ownership uniquely and hilariously.
A perfect show for those who love pets, or those who simply want to spend a couple of minutes having a good laugh with a very beautiful niche product.
