75/100Came for the fanservice, stayed for the wholesomeness.Continue on AniListWarnings before reading:
-Spoilers ahead.
-The title is mostly a lie, since the main reason I picked this up is because the cat is adorable.
-I don't talk about the side characters. They didn't leave much of an impression. Honestly, the two of them exist and that's about it, but I am not angry about it being the case.Watching this show feels like this:
__It's a cycle every season. Man. _____ It is not unusual to have a "cute boys doing cute things" show every season, but it is rare for any of them to even look or be decent. I had zero expectations watching this but wanted to at least enjoy myself. I did. From beginning to end there was a feeling of happiness. Be it from the characters interacting with eachother and becoming friends, to the main leads learning to enjoy life. The fanservice in these shows mainly are revolving around the "are these men dating or not?" moments, and you know what? for this one in particular, I'm OK with it. I will also say, I do not care that it is not explicit. The two main characters, Shirosaki and Momose, are dating or very close to and I won't budge on this. The source is still ongoing, so who knows. if the author is not afraid of success, they will pull a Yuri on Ice. My New Boss is Goofy is like a mix of Play It Cool Guys and Wotakoi. It can be seen as(in my delusion it is) a romantic comedy. It just works as one. Is it cliche that what made Momose quit his shitty job and cry, was an ad that Shirosaki made? yes. Did I eat that shit up anyway? YES. To me, cliches are not necessarily bad, all that matters is how they are presented, and in this instance I was vibing.
There can be a whole ass book on why the two main leads are endgame. There is so much content. It is mindblowing that A1 Pictures expects anyone to buy that these men are not falling for eachother when they think the other is cute, they don't mind flirting, they lived together, they go on dates together, they named their kid (I know it's a cat but I'm crazy so it is the SAME thing) by mixing their two names, and they miss eachother's company enough to cry. Honestly, the relationship between Momose and Shirosaki is nowhere near how a normal Boss-Subordinate relationship would unfold, even if they were friends. Watching Shirosaki and Momose interact is like watching someone's slowburn fanfic in real time. It is adorable and heart-wearming, and you are yelling at your screen going "JUST DO IT". At one point Shirosaki even introduces his family to him. Who just goes to meer their boss' family and then gets told to "take care of him"? no mere subordinate, I'll tell you that. They are very domestic, and their relationship is beautiful. I had a tear in my eye when Shirosaki said something along the lines of , "I couldn't take care of your past self, but I can now" when he was talking about the past abuse Momose suffered at the hands of his ex-boss. That shit is gorgeous. Nobody has ever loved me like that. Shirosaki as a character radiates kindness. Like yes, his main personality trait is his goofyness but I feel like his gentleness to those around him is his most appealing trait. You can tell he is a wonderful person.
Not everything in the show was adorable and fun. Remember how I said in the beginning that rarely are shows like these decent? (for me that is). Well, it has everything to do with the comedy. That is probably the area where this show falls for me. Much like with shows like Play It Cool Guys and Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan, the comedy relies so much on just ONE trait, that sometimes it goes overboard and ends up just being annoying or boring. This show's comedy, shocker, centers on the boss being goofy. That is the main requirement and then it moves from there. Shirosaki being clumsy doesn't always work for a laugh. This isn't like say, Gintama, where even if the joke wasn't that good, the voice actors sold it. All the voice actors in the show sound restrained and too mellow for my taste, which is weird seeing as the chief has the voice actor of Gintoki of all people. The lack of expressions of the characters also make it hard for me to laugh at the majority of the stuff that they get themselves into. In regards to the plot, there is not much, but it chose to deal with Momose healing from the PTSD that his old job gave him. It is OK, I liked that it was never the subject for laughs and was treated with a certain level of respect. I don't know how much longer it can be dragged out, as it is not as explored as say, Rei's depression in March comes in like a lion. It is something that the show talks about maybe once in the episode, tries to soothe a bit, then moves on from. The ending has him throwing out his stomachache medicine so maybe that really is the end of that plot.
Sadly, this show was not enough to fill a bit of the void that Buddy Daddies left in my heart after ending, but it made me happy and was good enough to eat dinner to every night. It's cute, the characters have chemistry with eachother unlike some others I know, and the art was very easy on the eyes. I might check the source even if honest to god, I doubt I will remember the names of any of these characters. If it got a second season, I probably would watch it regardless just for the cat alone.
TLDR; This show is a feels good show where you can watch attractive men being clumsy and potentially falling for eachother. It is like a gay wotakoi which to me is like a win. Big thank you to A1 for giving this beautiful image, I will cherish it:

80/100This anime is the result for having a healthy working atmosphere and shows why we should be nice to each otherContinue on AniListWhen I started this anime I didn’t know what to expect. In the end I got a really wholesome experience which shows why we should be nice to each other.
The anime starts with Kentarou Momose who quitted his job because his old boss abused him and thus developed a big trauma. At his new workplace he met his new boss Yuusei Shirosaki. At first Momose was too afraid in Shirosakis presence but his new boss is the exact opposite of his old boss. Like the title of the anime Momomse new boss is really goofy which ensures a lot of comedic and wholesome moments. Thanks to Shirosaki, Momose could finally pursue his dream of making advertisement which inspires people. Besides the funny moments Momose character arc is what makes this anime enjoyable for me. He has to fight al lot of difficult situations along the story because of his trauma but with Shirosakis help he gets brave enough to move on. Shirosaki on the other hand wants to be a good boss and friend. Although for his clumsy attitude he tries his best to support Momose and his other co-workes. I really enjoyed their growing relationship over time. There is surprisingly a good amount of character depth in both of them which I didn’t expect.
In addition there are two other side characters with different probelms to tackle so the group of four are spending time together not just at work but as friends as well. It’s quite funny that all of them lost their girlfriends so they are supporting each other instead. Although I think this is pretty wholesome sadly I think my biggest criticisms is tied to that point. Some of the running gags are funny at the start but they get boring over time. For example Mitsuo Aoyama is desperatley seeking for attention. So he says that nobody wants to visit him for example and a character response with the opposite statement that he wants to visit him in the future thus making him happy. These moments happens a lot and most of the time they are some throw away jokes. However there are still some good moments tied to this running gag. For example the reason why Aoyama is so desperatley seeking attention is quite sad to be honest and I liked the episode where he and the fourth guy of the group Aigo Kinjou are bonding similar like Momose and Shirosaki. Their relationship is not that deep developed but I still liked it. There is also a cat which can think like a human which is weird but it’s nice to see how Shirosaki cares for him.
But in the end Momose and Shirosakis relationship is the strength of this anime and it shows why we should care for each other at work as co-workers and private as friends.
