DESCRIPTION
Continuation of the Kuroshitsuji anime adaptation.
At the request of Queen Victoria, Earl Ciel Phantomhive goes to Weston College—a prestigious public academy for boys, known for its traditions and outstanding curriculum—to search for a relative of hers who has not returned home in months. Thanks to his noble status, the 13-year-old Ciel is swiftly able to enroll as a student, while his devilish butler Sebastian Michaelis assumes a teaching position at the school.
Ciel does not anticipate being unable to locate the Queen's relative on campus. To make matters worse, he cannot request a meeting with the headmaster of the college, who may be the only person that knows anything pertaining to the disappearance. The only ones in frequent contact with the headmaster are the heads of the college dormitories, known as the Prefect 4 (P4): Edgar Redmond, Lawrence Bluewer, Herman Greenhill, and Gregory Violet.
Ciel must concoct a plan to get in the P4's good graces if he wants to use their connections to succeed in his mission. But the distinguished college and its students hide much that is unseen, making this task more improbable than he could imagine.

50/100I watched the Public School Arc of Black Butler. Honestly, I’m very pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere.Continue on AniList[SPOILER] Review of the Public School Arc in Black Butler.
I’m pleasantly surprised by this production. I have to admit, when I saw the teaser for this new season on YouTube, I was worried it would turn into a disaster. But as of now, I’d say I was wrong.
The storyline set in a public school is interesting because we see Ciel Phantomhive in an unfamiliar position: in a school environment, having to act like a child his age. Indeed, he has always been portrayed as a child ahead of his time and maturity. Small in stature, yet already holding his father’s title as the “Queen’s Watchdog.”
I enjoyed (and laughed a lot) at how he integrated Sebastian into the school to help with the investigation. With servants being forbidden, Seba—, I mean Mr. Michaelis, had to don the attire of a steward to stay close to his master. A steward, mind you, who is both charismatic and capable. But that’s to be expected from the Phantomhive family’s demon, after all !
I also laughed hard when I saw the cricket opening ceremony ! Indeed, during the first episode when the four prefects were introduced, I immediately said, "Wait, Edgar Redmond looks a lot like Viscount Druitt but in a less annoying and egocentric version"… Well done, Lok, what an analysis…! It turns out he’s his nephew ! -.-. Lawrence didn’t escape my scrutiny either, as I mentioned he “looked like a wish version of Vincent Phantomhive,” poor me… But I have to admit my favorites remain Gregory Violet, who I regret we know very little about compared to the other prefects, and Cheslock.
As for the integration of the Book of Atlantic movie into this season, I didn’t expect it at all ! I thought Derek Arden would have been kidnapped or that the Principal of the school was involved in some shady trafficking network and was using his school’s best assets to sell to this network. Especially since this asset threatened the integrity of the most powerful… Imagine my surprise when not only did I find out Derek Arden was a jerk (let’s call a spade a spade), but that he also became a zombie like those presented by the Phoenix Company on the Campania! I think I would have done everything I could, as a P4, to have this individual expelled from school, but I wouldn’t have gone as far as killing him like Greenhill did.
The more I saw the Headmaster sitting silently at that tea table during the revelation, the more I thought he might be a zombie or some supernatural being like Sebastian, given that he kept escaping him. But I never suspected that Undertaker had taken the appearance of an ordinary man to blend in and set his strategies in motion for his own goals. Another proof that there is much more to discover about Undertaker than we think. Especially now that we know the undertaker has ties with the Phantomhive family since the grandmother, if not further back. Who knows, maybe he has a connection to the manor fire or Sebastian’s arrival?
The only negative point I’d mention is that we learn absolutely nothing about what happens to the four prefects after their expulsion. We see them leaving together in the city’s fog, but in the last episode, I would have liked a brief flash of what they plan to do. Are they still together? Have they separated? What are they planning? Did being expelled have an impact on them and their lives?
Maybe we’ll get answers in the next arc (which was teased in German -, and it surprised me so much that I had to check if I was still watching Black Butler, haha).
On that note, I’ll see what other anime, whether I’ve seen it before or not, I could review next!
