70/100If you like magic, harem, or fan service, you'll be a fan. Just be wary not to take the plot too seriously :)Continue on AniListI focus my reviews around three main aspects: art, characters, and plot. In question form: "Is this visually pleasing?", "Do the characters invoke an emotion in me (e.g. like, hate, adore)" and "If someone asked, would I say the story holds its own?"
I'll do my best to put all major spoilers in tags, but be wary that minor/general spoilers may be present.
All sections have a tl;dr at the bottom.
Art
- 6/10 (animation)
- 7.5/10 (characters)
- 7/10 (effects)
If you like fan service, you'll love this anime. It has an excessive amount of raw nudity and all the usual fan service bits. I'm not a huge fan so I found it a tiny bit annoying, but Arata's reactions to each bit was great so I actually found the fan service to be a positive aspect here.
The animation (not the art) was pretty shoddy, I won't lie. However, I do have a weak side for aesthetically pleasing characters. Lilith, Yui and the Sherlock twins were stellar. The rest weren't bad (other than Akio, which I didn't feel particularly strong about).
Arata and Hijiri's demon lord forms were also amazing
Since this is a magic anime, the effects are also quite an important part of the show. They weren't outstanding, but it certainly wasn't anywhere near as bad as the animation may lead it to seem they may be.
tl;dr - "Is this visually pleasing?" - Yeah, if you like excessive fanservice (with a MC that doesn't have cliche reactions), good character visuals, and magic.
Characters - 8/10
Definitely the strong point in this show by far.
Arata - Pretty standard harem MC, honestly. The one thing that sells him for me is his reactions to the various fan service bits, which are far from the stereotypical MC reactions. Plus, he's OP, so that's fun.
Now, since this is a harem anime, I'll go in order of my favorite to least favorite
Yui - Both of her forms top the looks chart for the characters. Aggressive in love, but caring towards her friends. Probably plays a killer Yuumi too.
Lilith - I mostly love this character for a combination of her looks and the gap between her and rest of the casts' reactions to being fan-service'd (most of the cast doesn't seem to care, or invites it), but Lilith reacts pretty much as you expect her to.
Sherlock Twins - A classic example of abusing gap moe, but there's a reason why it's such a well known thing. It works.
Liese goes from that "evil slutty mage" to someone that grows on you solely because of Selina, they also have a pretty good sister dynamic
Nothing big to comment on the rest of the cast, overall good characters and each have their own quirk they bring to the table, hoping to appeal to as many viewers as possible.
tl;dr "Do the characters invoke an emotion in me?" - Yeah, but not by their own individuality, most of the emotions invoked as a result of pair dynamic and gaps between one another. If you isolated each of the characters, only Arata and Yui may be worth their salt. Which is fine, but it keeps me from any higher than an 8.
Plot - 5/10
The weakest link. I'd imagine anyone who completed the anime can agree this is the case, at least for the anime adaption. Things felt really rushed, as there really were no good conclusion points except for where ended up, especially if they didn't know if they had the budget for a season 2.
Plus, not even the story took itself seriously, but that's an intended result by virtue of the type of story it tells. I don't think the author wanted the plot to be taken seriously, or else we wouldn't have the absurd fan-service, randomly OP MC, people kind of leisurely chatting within a couple feet of each other in a life-or-death battle, etc etc.
So, I don't take away much from my rating because of the plot, just because the plot was built this way (or so it seemed from what we've seen adapted)
tl;dr "If someone asked, would I say the story holds its own?" - no, it's a mess of cliche or over-the-top bits that were feel intended to make the plot less important, which is fine, just don't go in expecting a Kimi no Na wa story to unfold.
Overall - 7/10
If you like the magic genre, you'll like it. If you like harem animes, you'll like it. If you enjoy fan service, you'll love it (joking, sort of).
If you like none of those, I don't recommend it. The characters are great, but they're not worth the downsides if you aren't into at least one of the three bits above.
But if you are in one of those three, it's a pretty enjoyable watch. You can't take it seriously, but as long as you know that you can expect something worth watching.

50/100Good anime concept with a terrible plot and character developmentContinue on AniListAnime with a good concept but with a terrible development. Many mechanics of the world presented to us are not clearly explained through the whole show as if the creator didn't want to create a proper explanation for them.
One of those mechanics are the main battle system of the show: the Archives and Themas. They explained that it is always the opposite of oneself, however it was never explained how they learn to cast their themas or how researching about their Archives and Themas might make them more powerful. They only read books and somehow are stronger?
Another mechanic that's not fully explained is how they know that oneself has ran out of magic power. They somehow just know when someone is low on magical power. Is it correlated with physical stamina? Is it some kind of aura that only magic users are able to see?
Besides that the universe seems rather small when the knowledge about magic is so big in the anime.
In this show we only get to know about the existence of two magic schools and the Iscariots... With a whole magical society to create the only things the creator is able to present us are two schools, in which one of them is completly destroyed (and the main characters don't even seem to care that much) and one antagonist group, which has a incredibly confusing motive. I mean, the Iscariots want to kill Arata because he has the a Demon Lord inside him that will destroy the world with the Trinity Seven and somehow it creates a loophole?
On top of that, every single female protagonist falls in love with the main character without any proper relationship development. The character that got closest to that was Mira but the creator only bothered to do so because she's the tsundere of the party and he couldn't just make her love Arata out of nowhere.
In addition to all the other shit I've covered, the show has a horrible pacing. The main character barely learns how to cast two spells, which one of them is used with the sole purpose of aiming the first spell or whatever the fuck that was (as said the mechanics were poorly explained) and right after that the main characters face one Lise after acumulating enough power to be a candidate to Demon Lord. I mean this could have worked but the solution they found was speed-training the protagonist a spell (or skill idk) that's not even from his Archive. I mean, they do say that the Superbia Archive "rules" over the other Archives, but they say that on a OVA that happens after the 12th episode (that's also an example of how poorly the universe is explained).
Well, those are my thoughts on this anime. I'm not an expert, an anime soummelier or anything, but I just got pissed with the waste of potential this show had. Don't plan on watching the sequels.
Thank you for giving me some time of yours to read my humble review.Edit: I've stumbled upon this review I did and realized how poorly I've written it.
I was only mad that a universe with such a potential was wasted.

Synopsis
Trinity Seven tells the story of Kasuga Arata, a peaceful life with his cousin must run aground because of a strange phenomenon he is aware of. The black sun that he saw made Arata realize that he was not in the real world. That world turned out to be an illusion of a Grimorie left by his cousin. Then the arrival of a magician named Lilith Asami who came from a famous Magician Academy and made Kasuga Arata aware that Arata was actually a person who was crowned to be the King of the Dark Wizards. Lilith Asami gave Arata 2 choices, which was to hand over the Grimorie or die. But Arata made the 3rd choice, which was to join Lilith in the Magician Academy and study magic there. Finally Lilith Asami agreed to the choice. Kasuga Arata begins his new life in a wizarding academy. Inside the academy there are 7 powerful magicians with the nickname "Trinity Seven". Kasuga Arata is required to meet the 7 magicians to be able to learn magic from each of the "Trinity Seven" magicians.
Storyline
Honestly, I kinda forgot what the first episode was like. What I remember, the plot was too fast, it suddenly started with the destruction of the world, eh…, right? The main character and a girl, call them Arata and Hijiri after breakfast, suddenly a strange phenomenon appears, then Arata tries to find Hijiri, but fails and the incident makes Arata ambition to save Hijiri, because Arata believes that Hijiri is still alive. If I'm not mistaken, that's it. And all of that was answered in the last episode. This story uses a forward plot, no flashbacks, just a few scenes that make us think, "Oh, so that's the truth?" Oh yes, this anime is in the ecchi category. So don't be surprised if the main character is a little very perverted.
Character
Hmm, unfortunately each character does not have a flashback or background of his life, even though if you add a background, the audience might be able to better understand "why is this character like that?" Oh, there is one of the characters whose background is shown, namely Mira Yamana, but it's not long and I don't think it's exciting. But I like each character, because they are made with different traits.
Art
I like the Art, the way of taking pictures is also different from other anime. I also had time to think, "the graphic background looks like 3D, doesn't it?" But I like that way of shooting. In addition, I feel some scenes where the camera's point of view changes, so the camera focuses on the front of the character, then changes to the top, side, or back of the character. Of course the character is in a stationary position, only the camera's angle of view changes. By the way, this is Seven Arcs studio, right? I think Madhouse, the art is a bit similar to Mahou Sensou, maybe because there is an element of magic, huh.
Ost
I like the opening song. The problem is presented by ZAQ with the title "Seven Doors". But for the ending song, I often miss it, so I don't know whether to say I like it or not. There are 4 ending songs, lazy to mention one - one. And for sound effects, I like it, it's not stiff, some scenes are also added with BGM, although there are still scenes where only the voices of the characters sound, so it sounds lonely.
Overall Score
