80/100The series was amazing and I felt a level of satisfaction after completing it in a day.Continue on AniListA masterpiece
I started Overlord with a bit of pessimism as I wasn't convinced with the synopsis offered on any anime website. But, a friend of mine finally convinced me to take a closer look. To be honest, I started the series with no expectations. The first episode wasn't too interesting, but I was ready to give it a chance as it was highly acclaimed both on MyAnimeList as well as here. The second episode was when I noticed the awesome Intro music by OxT . I planned to stay with the series as it started to gain a foothold. The third episode finally delivered as it was packed to the brim with breath taking action sequences. After a very slow start during which I was having second thoughts, I was finally hooked to the anime in the third episode.
The best character in the entire series would certainly be Narbereal Gamma who single-handedly defeats two skeletal dragons with utmost ease. She was the shining light of the battle in the Dark Warrior Arc and would definitely be my MVP in the entire season. I can't wait to see more of her next season. I also found Nphirea Balear to be intriguing and expect him to play a major role in the upcoming season.
i felt that the character development of all the Guardians wasn't up to the mark as some of them didn't get much screen time (maybe that will change in the second season). Some episodes felt a bit too hollow with nothing interesting except for the ending. Despite all these drawbacks, the story still acts as a strong point and I would gladly watch Season 2 which is going to be a lot better!

60/100Breath of fresh air in a world where anime based on games suck.Continue on AniListI’m an avid fan MMORPGS. I grew up playing them, non stop in the confines of my own room so this Overlord was a joy and a breeze to watch. I finished this anime in a couple days.
The story centers on Momonga, an unidentified Japanese man lingering on the servers of the soon dead Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game or (DMMORPG), Yggdrasil. The game is known for its unusual freedom given to the players making it the most popular game in Japan. Our Main MC, Momonga is reminiscing about the great times he has had playing the game for some unknown reason is being shut down. It is never explained why the game was coming to an end but I’ll leave it to later seasons to explain why this was the case. The catch is when the servers finally shut down Momonga finds himself stuck in the world that was once Yggdrasil. He has no idea why this occurred yet he is thrust into a chaotic world as the ruler of a despotic kingdom surrounded by inhuman servants that serve as Guardians to the Tomb of Nazarick. His goal is to reach potential allies who might also be stuck in this fearsome world and to do that he plans to spread his name across the lands. A badass premise, eh?
I was reluctant to get into this anime since most anime about being stuck in a game are kinda shit. (SAO, I’m talking to you.) I was pleasantly surprised to find that this anime was unique and interesting. No harems, no overpowered characters without justification, and no bullshit! The MC is indeed overpowered but not without reason. It is shown that he was level 100, most likely a cap level for the game, therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to suggest he is god tier in terms of abilities. It was nice to see that Momonga is a spell caster when they could have easily shot for a warrior even though is very capable of playing the role. Momonga now taking on the role of Ains Ooal Gown is my favorite part of the entire series. He stands out because he is what I always wanted in an MC who is thrusted in a video game world. Confident, intelligent, a complete badass but a dork at heart because at the end of all this he is still a nerd playing a video game rather than being social so basically me. Time and time again he’s shown his prowess in a way that isn’t overbearing. My gripes come with the other characters.
There are only a select few of Guardians that I care for and it isn’t Shalltear. Cocytus and Albedo are ones that stood out for me. The condescension towards the humans was a constant annoyance. Albedo and Nabe were constant edgelords that would not shut up about humans being shite. We get it, Ains Sama is the epitome of greatness. Let us move on. I found the Guardians loyalty not to be endearing but sheep flocking to a wolf. And that’s why I found it laughable that the Guardians look down on humans so much. But perhaps that flaw is what “humanizes” them in the end. If that’s what they were going for, so be it. It was just too annoying for me. I appreciate the inhuman servants being different from one another difference in personalities and abilities. It gave life to the cast even though I had some minor problems. Overall they were alright. Oh, thanks for the loli elves. I very much appreciate it.
I don’t have much to say about the world building since it’s pretty simple so far. Where the worldbuilding shines is when it’s compared to the likeness of what it once was, an MMORPG. The animation was great because of how it was executed the CGI never really affected me too much. However, the final fight scene when it came to magic buffs felt a bit dragged even though it was necessary.

6/10.I thoroughly enjoyed this. My love for MMOs really helped which is why I give this a 6, not a 7.

100/100Overlord is nothing short of an amazing anime that many can enjoy.Continue on AniListI might be slightly biased while writing this, since I really enjoy the Isekei genre. But let me tell you: Overlord is my favourite Isekei, right after No Game No Life and Saga of Tanya the Evil, and I really think it's something many can enjoy, even if they're not too big on the Isekei genre. Here's why.
Story: 10/10
Like I said before, even if you're not too big on the Isekei genre, the story of this anime is amazing. Just watching the plot thicken was enough to envelope anyone is the amazing story of this series, and it's just outstanding to see all the characters perspectives throughout all the seasons. Not to mention it really connects to you as a viewer. With the action of each move of each plot element, the story becomes better and better until you think it can't get any better. The story shows the viewers the excitement that comes out of an action anime, while also showing them some controversy through showing the viewers the view points of the antagonists, something most anime's never even bother doing. I never once felt bored while watching Overlord, and a lot of that is because of the amazing story and it's plot progression.Characters: 11/10
I rated the characters 11/10. Yeah that's right, the characters are just that good. Each servant, each antagonist, and even the main anti-hero himself, Ainz, are nothing short of magnificent. Seeing each perspective of each character, will usually bore the average anime viewer, but Overlord makes sure not to do that. Each character, from their good sides to their... rather bad sides, is very entertaining to say in the least. I don't want to spoil too much, but with each addition to a new character the viewer was unaware existed, Overlord just keeps getting more hype for the next episode. The cast of Overlord is a big one, but somehow, it does an amazing job at handling it. While watching the anime, one can't simply choose a favourite character or even a best girl, because they all are best girl. Even the males.Artwork 9/10
When one is introduced into the land of Yggdrasil, they are introduced with very cool scenery from the small towns, to The Great Tomb of Nazarick. Overlord takes the whole "fantasy" genre, and turns it into a whole new world. Though most of the art style is fine, there are a few things it could work on, which you will understand when you watch the showOverall: 10/10
When watching this anime, one can not simply help but enjoy it to its fullest. Even if you're not into Isekei, it differs from other Isekei in ways that can only be understood when watched. From he amazing cast, to the interesting story, this anime is sure to envelope each and every on of its viewers.
