DESCRIPTION
The second season of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu.
The students return as school is back in session for the second semester. Following their exploits on the island during summer vacation, Class 3-E continues to sharpen their blades with their sights set on their teacher, the slippery Koro-sensei. They have more to worry about than just their teacher, however, as enemy assassins, both old and new, are out for the increased bounty on the octopus' head.
Moreover, their rivals in Class A, as well as Kunugigaoka Junior High's fearsome principal, stand to block Class E from achieving academic excellence. With all of these obstacles opposing them, the group must continue to work together in order to overcome their foes and accomplish their goal of successfully assassinating their teacher.

98/100Comedic yet deep, nonsensical yet clever, and inspiring enough to make you want to change who you areContinue on AniListWell, if season one was good, this was just phenomenal. This fits the very definition of masterpiece. An ingeniously told story about the meaning of life, determination, and potential. Although it started off goofy, wacky and above all else comedic, it gradually evolved into a show that was so much more than a fun way to kill time.
Koro-sensei’s backstory was incredibly powerful. There had been some hints to it in the first season, but I definitely did not expect it to have the depth it did. My entire perspective of him changed – my understanding of his motivations, his personality, his struggles, his efforts in becoming who he did – suffice to say he’s now one of my favourite characters. I’d even say he’s a contender for first place.
But it wasn’t just Koro-sensei who was developed. Nagisa, Asano, Itona and Isogai all got their own place in the spotlight (Isogai’s episode in particular was a great showcase of his abilities as a leader). In fact, every character in class 3-E got their own time to shine. The sense of camaraderie from the first season reached its pinnacle here; by the end of the series you could clearly see how much the entire class cared for each other. They started out as a bunch of oddballs, by the end they had become a cohesive (and deadly) unit. I couldn’t help getting drawn in to their struggles and celebrating their triumphs. I loved each and every character by the end. Even the bad guys; that’s how well they were depicted.
One who especially deserves mention, though, is Kayano. I mentioned in my season one review that I had really been expecting more from a character who was so heavily featured in all the opening themes and treated as an MC, when in reality she was hardly shown at all. Boy did I eat my words in season 2. Now I see why she was so important, and just how cleverly the anime was put together. Kayano really was a major focal point of the show – even though we only see it in season 2, it underlay the entire anime. I can’t go into more detail than this because it would cause major spoilers, so if you’re curious you’ll have to go watch it yourself.

60/100Way too long for what it is. Forgettable cast and no stakes.Continue on AniListI will begin by saying that I didn't particularly enjoy the show. Usually a big cast of diverse characters can be a benefit of a show, in this particular case the amount of people in Class 3-E is to its detriment. In the best case scenario they are all background filler.
None of the episodes dedicated to one or the other character did anything to flesh them out, but rather just "explain" them. And after they are "explained" they stay static: "This guy is good at baseball, this chick is good at science" and so forth. To call them 1 dimensional is an insult to lines.
Even the "main" characters don't have too much to them, and if I had to pick main characters they'd be Koro-Sensei and Nagisa. Everyone else, even Karma, weren't significant.
On the subject of Nagisa, I will admit that I did appreciate his relationship with his overbearing and micromanaging mother, it felt genuine even if exaggerated. A lot of people have had contact with such parents who try to fix their own mistakes via their children, and I will give the show credit for not playing it for laughs. In reality I wouldn't say that a parent such as this one would be so easy to change their ways, but we can all dream.
Koro-Sensei as well is a strong point of the show. Being the mascot and guide light of the story. He is one of the few people that has a discernible personality. I will admit though that I didn't quite like the fact that he was more or less right for everything. He was a bit too flawless of a person. But I won't take off points for that too much.
Now there are a couple of things about the show that were part of its charm and I found cute. People took murder way too lightly in the show. And talked about killing in a very matter-of-fact light. Koro Sensei is a literal murderer who's responsible for way too many deaths over his long career as an assassin. Same goes for his student "The Reaper". Them painting the relationship as just any other teacher/student relationship, where Koro Sensei just wasn't a good enough teacher and let him down, was just weird when put in context.
Same goes with all the other references to murder, blood lust, etc. It just feel not genuine especially in the context of a show that's so "feel-good". All the issues the kids face are always resolved very cleanly with a bow and a moral lesson in the end. It felt like a Saturday morning cartoon, just wrapped in paper that says MURDER on it, right next to a smiley face.
I wouldn't put that as a negative, but it did feel weird. I'm guessing that was intentional though.
What I will put as a negative is the complete and utter lack of stakes in the show. At one point Lovro and Sniper Boi are "killed" by the Reaper, to showcase a new villain in the show. Then they are just shown to be OK, with little to no injuries. Even the villains who are said to have killed literally THOUSANDS of people, are just pushovers.
And that happens over and over in the show. None of the things happening can be taken seriously, because the show just takes a step back and says: "Yeah this wasn't significant after all, carry on".
Another huge negative is the amount of episodes the show has. It just drags on and on and on, with way too many episodes dedicated to completely insignificant things, just to have some of the already lackluster characters do nothing, and pretend that they had growth. I had to force myself to finish the show, because so much of it just dragged on forever.
I had heard the ending was really good, so I did force myself to finish it, but it was completely lacking for me. It was a forced tearjerker moment with 10 minutes of Koro Sensei just saying the names of people that I didn't care about. None of those characters were interesting, none of them had anything to do, so I couldn't feel sad for them. So the ending was completely and utterly lost on me.
As additional points: Visually the show was OK, the music wasn't memorable, but I did like most of the OPs, especially the last one. It had a glaring lack of waifus(Irina was OK, but one swallow does not a summer make), and the Engrish was hilarious.
I'd rate season 1 as a 6.5 and season 2 as a 6.0, because of how little I cared at the end for the people.
To put the score into context I consider a 7.0 show to be average.

90/100A heartbreaking conclusion to a funny anime.Continue on AniListThe sad fact of life is that all good things must eventually come to an end, and that includes whatever school year might have actually been fun for you. Thus, Class 3-E - the only class that teaches assassination - must come to an end, as well, whether the world goes down with it or not. In this season of Assassination Classroom, we get to see how it all ends, making it one of those anime that is actually a full adaptation of the original manga. When I watched the first season last year, I enjoyed it a whole lot; that was more than enough to get me to watch the second season when it came out. Needless to say, this season was even better.
Ladies and gentlemen, tentacles all over (yes, I'm saying that again), here is my review of Assassination Classroom Second/Final Season.
For those unfamiliar with Assassination Classroom, it centers around Class 3-E, which is considered to be the lowest class in Kunugigaoka Junior High (and gets poor treatment from both teachers and students because of it). They end up getting a new teacher, which is a huge, yellow, octopus-like thing capable of Mach 20 speed and, as it is said, mass destruction; you see, he is apparently responsible for the recent destruction of the moon. He claims to be destroying Earth next in a year, but first, he wants to teach Class 3-E. Thus, Class 3-E is given the assignment of killing this thing, now named Koro-sensei, by graduation, and they will earn the 10 billion yen bounty on his head if he does so. Needless to say, Koro-sensei proves to be an excellent teacher to the students by not only teaching them the regular school subjects and assassination, but also life lessons.
The second season of Assassination Classroom picks up from where it left off, and boy, does it get great from there! A few parts of the story in this season feel a little rushed, but it was certainly never boring! It provided a lot of character development for each character in this series, even some of the ones that started out unlikable. For example, the principal of Kunugigaoka Junior High, Asano, starts off as someone with a heart of stone, but when you get to see his backstory, you start to sympathize with him even a little bit. Speaking of backstories, Koro-sensei's backstory is finally revealed in this season, as well, and while trying not to give too much away.... man, is it intense!
The art and animation in season two of AssClass (still amused by this abbreviation) is pretty much the same as in season one, seeing that it's still Lerche animating it, so there really isn't much for me to say here. It's still well-done animation that especially stands out in the easy-to-get-into action scenes. The Japanese voice acting for this season is pretty good, too. Now, as for the music, I honestly thought that both the opening and ending themes of this season left more of an impact than the opening and ending themes of the first. I especially liked "Bye-Bye Yesterday", the second opening theme; it's really sad that this anime is ending, and this opening really made me feel the impact of its upcoming end.
Overall, while I did enjoy season one of Assassination Classroom, season two was even better. If anyone has seen season one and wants to know how it ends, you'd better watch this. I'm personally looking forward to seeing more of these interesting characters in the spin-off, Koro-sensei Q, but for now, we must say goodbye as Class 3-E graduates from their assassination classroom.
