DESCRIPTION
For the sake of parents' business plans, Hidaka Sana moved to Tokyo. Five years later, he has become a high school student, and returned to his hometown, Sakuranomori. He feels uneasy because the streets of his hometown and his old friend he meets again have changed a lot since five years ago. The most changed thing is his childhood friend, Yatsushiro Nanaka. She used to smile sweetly with innocent eyes, but now she has withdrawn herself and is gloomy.

50/100My thoughts on why this is a lack luster anime (Spoilers)Continue on AniListI will start off on the hints the show tries to give.
There’s obvious hints to dark backstories between the main cast, however there’s one that is confusing.
The MC would constantly have these scenes where he would talk to his mother on the phone, and he also tends to have some sort of PTSD whenever he sees a sharp object (i.e. knives), and there’s also a significance with the watch he wears.
Now for those who may watch darker anime, some may think this
His mother died/committed suicide before he moved back to his home town, the watch could signify a memory, a present possibly, from his mother when she was still alive, and he has these times where he talks to himself on the phone pretending his mom is talking (delusional due to trauma), since we never even hear the mother.
But instead what the watch actually signifies is that he’s hiding a scar on his wrist since he attempted suicide in middle school due to bullying, which caused him to become anti-social in high school and caused him to move back to his home town.
Now I feel that this was unnecessary and the only reason why this was implemented was for the MC to have a reason to sympathize with Nanaka, who tries to kill herself towards the end of the anime. There were no hints to him being suicidal in the past and there’s technically more support towards the other theory I suggested.
2ND POINT
Aoi has little to no character development whatsoever. She starts off in the beginning as a squeaker and ends off as one, there’s no backstory or anything with her. She’s simply just a gimmick character for filler.
LITERALLY the supposed “side-character” that Nanaka was jealous of had more character development than Aoi in a single episode that Aoi has ever had in the entire show.
In short, every character had some sort of character development other than Aoi.
LAST POINT
The ending is unsatisfying. There’s a HUGE time skip and almost nothing has changed whatsoever. They all look like adults, but that’s it, and only then does the MC presumably give what seems to be a ring to Nanaka, the supposed love interest.
However, there is nothing that explicitly states that they’re lovers or that they have romantic feelings for each other, it’s just assumed throughout the whole show.
There’s character development between the MC and Nanaka but there’s no development in terms of their romance.
I get that the show was supposed to begin and end with a violin, but all we’re left with is a concert at the end with no satisfaction.
CONCLUSION
In short, the MAL rating is bogus and this should be scored lower, the only scenes that ever hit me was the train scene where the MC does the exact same thing Shuusuke did at the bridge as kids. Very disappointed as I wasted 4 hours watching an Anime that left me with more questions than answers.
Rating: 5/10
