76/100the Stacy of shojo mangaContinue on AniListWarning this review may contain spoilers.
First impressions, so after watching the anime version of this I decided to check out the manga to see where this story goes and what happens over all.
Story, 7/10
So the story of ouran highschool host club is about the main character haruhi who has gotten a scholarship to the exclusive private institution known as ouran highschool where you will find the upper crust of society go for there learning.
While looking for a place to study she comes across the host club.
A group of very handsome male students who entertain the young maidens of ouran.
So after meeting all the members haruhi by accident brakes a vary expensive vase that was worth $80000. She Realizes that she don't have enough money to pay for it
So the host club cuts her a deal that she will work for the host club intil she has worked of the dent and also I forgot to mention that they thought she was actually a boy. So while beginning her time at the host club they find at that she is actually a girl and now they must hide the fact that she is actually a girl from the school body in order for her to continue working for the club.
And so begins the wacky adventures of the host club. The plot it self is pretty basic and episodic at the start and pretty much though out the rest of the story itself.
It's pretty much the adventures that the host club gets up to.
Which include, getting involved in some pretty funny situations that involve some of the students of oruan, help organize school events and just doing regular slice of life things.
Which sounds pretty bare bones when I think about it.
But I think what made it work is that it took the most mundane things which was school life and made it entertaining to read.
And I didn't find that a problem because
this is a comedy series by nature even thought it has drama and a reverse harem elements. So the episodic nature of the story is pretty justified by default.
The episodic parts are generally used for comedy and getting to know the characters and makes good set up the more serious parts in the story.Which are mostly about this kind of love triangle that popping up.
which was never mallow dramatic or over blown to the point of me face palming.
Which dose happen quite a bit in these kind of story's from my experience And some things about tamaki and kyoya famliy life which kind of shows that even though someone comes from a well off family there are still problems that even they have.
Which had a pretty nice build up and pay off.
The ending for ouran was probably a bit to anticlimactic .
But they do rap every thing up.Another thing I must say about this story is that it took the basic shojo reverse harem formula And decided to say Fuck the cliche shit I am going to do this myself.
And for that reason it actually stands out from the rest of its kind.
The comedy was pretty funny for me.
They did really well with the kind of comedy that they where gong for
So for that I would give it a pat on the back for trying to stand out.Characters, 6/10
The main character haruhi was pretty interesting for the most part.
Especially when you compare her to most shojo protagonists.
Her personality she kind of a tom boy who stands to her guns and has a reason for doing what he doing. She is never submissive and she was treated with respect. The host club members.
Where at the start the very basic pretty boy stereotypes like for example.
the prince, the glasses guy, quiet guy.that would make fan girls go dokie dokie.
But as the story continued they stop feeling cardboard cutouts and actually felt like actual characters.
Which was helped by the fact that all have very eccentric personality which help add tones and tones of humor.
They where also very endearing and had a lot of energy to them. The side characters where also a bit eccentric but not to the level that the host club.
But where different from the usual crap you generally get.Art, 7/10
The artwork looked very nice and clean.
The backgrounds where well done as well. The art style is very shojo and dated by today's stands.
But has some pretty interesting things added in like flowers and stars and lots of other things added into the back ground. Which breeds life into it.The character design.
Are basically the basic designs you would find in any shojo manga.Enjoyment, 7/10
Well I think one thing I quite liked about this manga is even though it for girls and I could kind of tell it was for girls.
It never actually felt like that because it was such a fun story.
The humor was funny and never felt repetitive
And this was the story that got me into shojo manga.
So I look at this manga with fondness.Overall, 7/10
If you like shojo then this is definitely a must read.
You rad going to have a good time. But you find its character design and plot beat off putting them probably stay away.
Because it probably no going to be your cup of tea.Latte

Characters: 10/10
The Story has a rather unique theme with the Characters being a Normal Stereotype at first. The Main Cast Introductions are as follows:
- Tamaki Suoh; The Founder of the Host Club. A 2nd Year Student with Blonde hair and Blue eyes. His Character personality is that of a prince you'd see only in picture books with a Beautiful face and awfully cheesy lines. His demand at Host Club is the Highest. He holds his troubles with him and prefers not to talk about them with the others, so as to not trouble them needlessly and make them worry. He is a hardworking guy who goes through many highs and lows so that he can protect whatever he cherishes.
- Fujioka Haruhi; Her Character is that of a refreshing boy. She is very refreshing and observative, although she might be dense at many time. She observes slight changes in people, that is why she can tell the twins apart while no one else can. She chases after her dream and is very hardworking.
- Hikaru & Kaori; are the twins with Hikaru being the elder twin and Kaoru being the Younger one. Their Character Personality is that of two brothers who love each other unconditionally. Typically being a high demand among the Fujoshi girls of the Host club customers. In the same class as Haruhi. As nobody other than Haruhi can tell them apart they grew up depending on one another and thus closed off their doors to everyone else around them. They are free-living and mischievous.
- Haninozuka Mitsukuni; A Third Year student at Ouran. He belongs to the Prestigious Haninozuka Family that specializes in Judo since ages. He is amazingly good at Judo and has been declared a threat if he uses his complete strength despite his short height. He loves Sweet Food and Cute Things. Despite his easy-going and childish personality, I believe him to be the most mature of all the Host Club members. He cares about everyone around him, he watches over them from the sidelines, giving slight pushes from time to time, and getting involved only when its necessary, just like a proper adult should. His nickname is Hunny~
- Morinozuka Takashi; Hunny's cousin, also in Third year. He belongs to the prestigious family of the Morinozuka's who specializes in Kendo. He has a stiff personality at first but he's very soft. He loves small things very much. He takes care of Hunny because of their family's being closely related and them being childhood friends.
- Ootori Kyoya; The typical Megane (glasses) character with high spec brains installed in his skulls. He's best friends with Tamaki. Although he got close to Tamaki because of his family status, he now cares deeply for him as a good friend. He takes care of the club's budget and often prepares the details over whatever stupid plan Tamaki comes up with.
The characters all get great development and although short but good arcs. Specially the Hitachin Twins, they get a hefty amount of character depth, and are probably the favorite character of many. Personally speaking, Tamaki might be very annoying to many people, but I loved his stupid character a lot. His character might not look like it but it was the most delicate out of all the cast in the series. I loved all the characters, although they were a bit cringey at first they all proved to be very well written indeed.
Story: 8/10
The Story kicks in a little bit late with a ton of drama sprinkled in it. Each of the character has his fair share of family and social troubles and each of them gets resolved surprisingly well. The comedy is very good and although most of the chapters in the first half provide comedic relief the fail to bore you. The drama kicks in, at the second half almost naturally. I love how the author makes use of the characters even if its for very little roles rather than discarding them after they've served their purpose like many other series. The author did her fair share of research on all the locations and businesses. She drew amazing clothes from different places and giving small information about everything here and there. The family drama in the second half indeed felt a bit forced with everything going according to a certain character's plan and everyone else just dancing over it without much explanation to how he could just go ahead assuming other's moves on his own but I decided to overlook that because obviously the series is a shoujo with romance and characters at it center. Three of the above main characters were in love with Haruhi with one giving up rather quickly and the showdown being between the other two, but in the end all of the characters supported Tamaki x Haruhi's ship and even the love rival made way for them and supported them. Tamaki's stupidity was also quite hilarious and it made a good gag topic in the series, although it might not be as loved by everyone else. The only thing I didn't like is that in the last few chapters Hunny mentioned how Kyoya was also in love with Haruhi while he showed no signs of it. I understand that he wasn't really the type of character that would start blushing of show any sign of being in love on his face but he really showed no sign! The only thing I pointed out in the entire manga was that he respected her and that she was a great person, which he himself said so while refusing Hunny's statement.
Art: 8/10
The art is more on the classic side and not really my cup of tea but I have to say that Hatori's art is beautifully detailed. All of the sceneries are very detailed and makes me wonder just how much time would it have taken for the author to draw it. The clothes are pretty and detailed, you'll probably never see these types of clothes in another anime/manga (lol) The character design only got better as the story continued and it shifted more towards the modern style later on. Haruhi's eyes were too big in the start and were a turnoff but their size was slowly reduced to normal.
Enjoyment: 9/10
It is a very good pick if someone wants to read something with good romance, drama and comedy and a slightly different theme compared to th normal highschool shoujo romance. The characters are equally lovable although they might not appeal to everyone as much as they did to me. btw, my favorite character aside from the two main charas was Hunny <3

85/100A must read for all rom-com fans, but ending falls short.Continue on AniListTHIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS Ouran Highschool Host Club is a great series, with loveable characters, a fun story, and pretty art and even prettier boys, this shojo manga succeeded my expectations, but the ending fell a little short for me.
STORY - 8/10 Ouran's story is a unique one, to say the least. it all starts when Haruhi Fujioka, a scholarship student at Ouran highschool, loses her way and stumbles into music room three, where Ouran's Host club resides. Out of shock and embarrassment at entering the wrong classroom, Haru bumps a vase - and it shatters. She is told that that vase cost 80,000 dollars, and she'll have to pay it off by being a host herself. While at first the members of the host club mistake Haru as a boy, they soon to their shock find out the truth. At first only a comedy, Ouran High School Host Club focuses on the shenanigans of this silly club, but in the last 4 volumes, focuses hard on the romantic aspect of the tag "rom-com".
CHARACTERS - 9/10 Whether you are a hardcore Kaoru or Tamaki stan or are here for Hunny and Mori, Ouran has a loveable cast of characters, even if I did get quite tired of Tamaki's narcissism towards the end of the series. Oh! and we can't forget about Haru, the main character in this wacky high school. Haru (or Haruhi) has such a loveable charm around her, and her little flaws like not being able to sing at all just make her even better. I couldn't really care for who Haru ends up with, as long as she's happy, I'm happy. Hunny and Mori all make appearances throughout the series, these third years are polar opposites, but best friends. Hunny, with his three-year-old mind and even smaller body charms all the ladies, but thankfully, I'm not a lady. I enjoyed seeing Hunny's dark side when he's tired, but other than that there were few moments that made me enjoy Hunny much. Mori, on the other hand, while having few lines, is one of my favorites in the series. Tall and quiet, Mori gets the girl charm from his constant care of Hunny. It was also really funny to see Mori talkative when he's tired, that was so fun. Another great character is Kyouya, With his capitalist mindset and head always in the game, my favorite moments with him were his heartfelt ones, though far and in between. And last but certainly not least the twins! Kaoru and Hikaru are staples of the series, and their constant tricks and nagging at Tamaki always put a smile on my face. While the romance aspect of this manga wasn't my favorite, Kaoru as a love interest for Haru was much more interesting for me than Tamaki, where I felt he lacked and there were too many blushing scenes.
ART - 9/10 The art in this series is really refreshing, even though the amount of close-up flower scenes was excessive, Hatori knew it was and used it as a joke. (sorry for the bad quality)
I can't find the "zip zip goes the lips" scene but that scene is just so good..
ENJOYMENT - 7.5/10 The first half of this series is so fun, with so many moments that made me laugh out loud. The second half, however, was still funny but focuses on the shojo of the shojo manga. Still enjoyable, but it just didn't have the same charm as the first 10 books.
OVERALL - 8.5/10 I'd recommend this to fans of rom-coms, or of shojo manga. This series is really, really good, and while the romance of it will turn some people away from it, i'd recommend everyone give it a chance. This is a special series, and i hope the anime has as much charm as the manga was able to pull off. It wasn't Tamaki and Haru together that disappointed me, but how their relationship felt rushed and left me wanting more of the good ol' days, where people weren't fighting for Haru.
