DESCRIPTION
A classic manga about girls at a private all-girls school. The storyline centers around the experiences of Nanako, a "normal" girl who is invited to join the prestigious school organization, the Sorority, and is resented by all the other students because she doesn't appear to be qualified. Other key characters are Nanako's two friends: Tomoko, her friend since childhood who is alienated by Nanako's decision to try to join the Sorority, and Mariko, a strange, obsessive girl who is invited to join the Sorority along with Nanako; her "older brother," Henmi, who she corresponds with by mail; and the "Three Magnificent Ones," all of whom are admired and quasi-worshipped by the rest of the student body: the head of the Sorority, Miya-sama, the haunted, pill-popping rebel, Saint Juste, and the star athlete with a mysterious disease who doesn't like the Sorority, Kaoru-no-kimi.

72/100reading the manga after watching the anime: my experience and comparisonContinue on AniListthe anime for oniisama e is way more popular, so i think a lot of people would be curious as to what's better: manga or anime. as a person who's checked out both, i will say without spoilers to those curious that i recommend watching the anime. manga is definitely used as a source with most chapters being practically identical to anime events, but anime is much more fleshed out. it shows us the characters' emotions in particular moments, makes things more dramatic, and makes the story overall better. yes, not everything that happens in anime is the same as the manga, but i think the changes that are made are tolerable and sometimes are for the better.
now the spoiler-free part is over, so i'll say which parts i enjoyed more in the anime:
1. tomoko is a bigger part in the anime. in the manga, she's barely there. mariko successfully makes nanako and tomoko not be friends anymore, instead of the three of them sorting their things out and becoming besties- mariko remains a man-hating lesbian in the anime, while in the manga she gets together with that pedo brother of miya-sama
- kaoru doesn't die in the anime, unlike she does in the manga
now, what i enjoyed more in the manga:
~!1. rei and nanako's relationship. they actually kiss here and get to spend their date together.- mariko's father isn't given some kind of redemption arc as he is given in the anime, we actually don't see him at all. i don't mind it ~that much~ because it fleshes out mariko's character in the anime but at the same time, i personally do not think he deserved forgiveness or screentime
- nanako and henmi's father did not leave his previous family, his ex-wife left him first with henmi. i like it better because in the anime he's still treated like a more or less good person despite it all, and he gets forgiven easily!~
there's another big change, but i am not sure what to think about it:
rei's death. she dies due to overdose in the manga, while in the anime it's a tragic accident before her date with nanako. idk which i like more, well i mean neither because rei didn't deserve it. at the same time i hated the anime trope of "she got better and SUDDENLY DIED" which is so common for bury your gays. but idk if suicide is much better. either way, her death and aftermath are way more fleshed out in the anime.overall, do i think oniisama e manga is worth reading? sure! but don't do it instead of anime. you won't get attached to the characters the same way, and they're really fun, i promise. for those who want to look into the manga after watching the anime, i say go for it since it's pretty short and the art is really good. but yeah, the problematic + heterosexual things that were in the anime remained here, and sometimes even worse, which i mentioned.
still, oniisama e is dear to me despite all of its flaws.
