80/100A light hearted comedic manga featuring characters from Fate, Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai and more.Continue on AniListPlease note This review is all subjective and my own personal opinion. You do not have to agree with it, nor am I asking you to. I hope that this just helps you get an idea of what the manga I am talking about is like and form a basic and general consensus on it. The ratings I give anime and manga are mostly my personal overall enjoyment. I read this manga a month ago, so my recollection on it is not perfect. This review will be spoiler free. A big thank you to [Nikz](https://anilist.co/user/Nikz/) for proofreading this review and giving me feedback. TL;DR will be at the bottom. Introduction Looking at the cover of All Around Type-Moon we see three distinct characters from three distinct universes. Saber from Fate, Aruceid from Tsukihime and Shiki from Kara no Kyoukai. What could possibly bring these three characters together? Of course, a comedic crossover. All Around Type-Moon is a manga that brings various characters from multiple works of Type-Moon and puts them into very comedic situations, similar to Carnival Phantasm. All Around Type-Moon mainly takes place in Ahnenerbe, a location often used for Type-Moon's metaficiton. Something to note is that the source material for Carnival Phantasm finished in 2005, whereas All Around Type-Moon finished in 2013. This means that some of the more recent works of Type-Moon, such as Fate/Kaelid Prisma Illya and Fate/EXTRA, that did not appear in Carnival Phantasm, are included in All Around Type-Moon. Another great thing is that Kara no Kyoukai characters are more involved in All Around Type-Moon, unlike Carnival Phantasm (which is one of the minor irks I had with it).
Plot The plot of this manga essentially goes chapter by chapter. Each chapter holds a new, comedic situation and various characters find themselves in it. Whilst the situations the characters find themselves in is certainly less bizarre and outlandish as Carnival Phantasm, I still found it just as enjoyable, maybe even more. The setting of each chapter is fairly simple, not difficult to get around and easy just to have some fun reading what these characters find themselves in. B-suke does well to create a satisfying ending to each of these situations, which can be just as comedic as well. I will not go into too much detail as what the plot is like, as I do not want to spoil the wonderful experience of seeing these events for yourselves for the first time. There are only ten chapters, but B-suke does well to pack a lot in with a small amount of content.
Characters The characters in All Around Type-Moon are just as you like and know them. Their personalities do well in this kind of format, considering the types of stories they come from. Here we can see a more light hearted version of these characters, which is just a treat to see. Many characters feature in All Around Type-Moon, and it never felt that there was a lack of interesting characters. All of the characters brought something to the table and having all of these characters here caters to fans of any type. Indeed, one could describe All Around Type-Moon as purely fanservice, but it is fanservice done well.
Art I have always been a fan of the art style that Type-Moon and their works bring. All Around Type-Moon is no exception. B-suke crafts a visually appealing art style akin to the art style that these characters originally appeared in, fitting them well and making it easy for a fan of these franchises to enjoy it. The art style fits the comedic tone of the manga well, character expressions are drawn excellently and it is conveyed effectively. The setting (which is mostly Ahnenerbe) was drawn were of quality, I had no issues with it myself.
Comedy As this is a comedic manga, I best go into a little more detail on the comedy present in it. The comedy is simple, and effective for those familiar with the characters present in the manga. The situations they find themselves in are stuff that would never happen to them in their parent works, making it even more comedic for fans. Being able to see characters they have found themselves to like in situations such as these is not only laughter inducing, but heart warming. The comedy that is featured in All Around Type-Moon is very light hearted, and easy just to find yourself smiling along and enjoying yourself.
Conclusion and TL;DR I am quite glad that I read this manga. I read it after watching Carnival Phantasm and came across it on AniList. It piqued my interest, and I proceeded to read it. All Around Type-Moon is only ten chapters, a quick read. I was easily able to finish it in one day. This manga is easy for me to recommend for fans of Fate, Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai. If you are only a fan of one or two of those franchises and go in reading this, it may be confusing due to unfamiliar characters appearing. This manga is best suited for fans of all three of those franchises, but it is not a necessity. If you enjoyed Carnival Phantasm, then you will probably enjoy this too. Honestly, I enjoyed this manga more than Carnival Phantasm. I was certainly glad to see more of Kara no Kyoukai in this manga. To summarise this review:
- The plot is chapter by chapter, simple yet effective, presenting various well known characters finding themselves in comedic situations.
- All Around Type-Moon is full of familiar characters, just as lovable as they are in their source material.
- A great art style that fits the characters and the comedic tone of the manga.
- The comedy is simple and effective for fans of the characters presented in the manga.
- Overall a light hearted, comedic short read.
Thank you to those who took the time to read this review. I hope you were able to get something out of this review. If you did not like this review, then I apologise for wasting your time.
