DESCRIPTION
Kuronuma Sawako is completely misunderstood by her classmates. Her timid and sweet demeanor is often mistaken for malicious behavior. This is due to her resemblance to the ghost girl from "The Ring", which has led her peers to give her the nickname Sadako. Longing to make friends and live a normal life, she is naturally drawn to Kazehaya Shouta, the most popular guy in class, whose "100% refreshing" personality earns him great admiration from Sawako. So when Kazehaya starts talking to her, maybe there is hope for the friendships Sawako has always longed for. Maybe...there is even a little hope for some romance in her future.

95/100The shoujo slice of life, for all to enjoyContinue on AniListThis is my first review, I am very sorry for any newby mistakes I make
I first found out about this show after I went on a spree looking for just about every romance anime I could get my hands on after finishing Clannad (my first anime). I added them all to my PTW and there they patiently waited to eventually be moved to the watching tab. The time came, for me to watch this show and seeing as it was marked with the shoujo tag, I expected a show with nothing but romance, drama, romance, and more romance. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this show while it may be shoujo in the sense that it is meant for teenage girls, I as a teenage boy thoroughly enjoyed it.
I would personally classify this show as a slice of life/comedy. While of course the main premise and story are based around the romance of Sawako and Kazehaya, 2/3 of the episodes don't make any major advancements to the plot, or more specifically the relationship between Sawako and Kazehaya.
The show focuses on things from Sawako's perspective, and one of the things that I enjoyed the most was seeing things through this lens. The show focuses more on the development of Sawako as a character and the relationships that drive that development and how in turn Sawako drives those relationships. This allows Kimi ni Todoke to avoid the mistake that many anime love-stories make of throwing a protagonist you don't care about at you, and some love interest who you don't care about. Kimi ni Todoke 100% guarantees that you will be routing for Sawako til the very end of the show due to the amount of time that you have spent getting to know her, and the number of ways you have seen her change throughout the course of the show. Kimi ni Todoke also blends two different animation styles together both representing different atmospheres and feelings of the characters. One being the more realistic, classic animation of anime, and the other being a more chibi animation used for the comedy and other less "heavy" moments throughout the series
Kimi ni Todoke expertly mixes elements of lighthearted slice of life, roll on the floor (while not forced) comedy, and the romantic drama of high schoolers. For this reason, I recommend it for any fan of romance or slice of life, and the comedy may even be good enough to carry you through even if you aren't a fan of those genres!
The only reason I do not give it a 100/100 is due to the fact that while it serves its purpose as a light-hearted feel-good kind of show, it fails to leave the same lasting impression that masterpieces leave you with.

65/100While quite charming, Kimi ni Todoke ultimately can be a drag to watchContinue on AniListI’ve been beating around the bush for a bit when it comes to writing this review. To be honest, it took me longer than it should have to watch this anime. Some of it is due to watching other anime that’s currently airing, but most of it is due to laziness. I didn’t have much motivation to finish this anime. Not that it’s bad or anything, it’s just kind of boring to me. I’m not the target audience for Kimi ni Todoke. With that being said, I’m still going to review the show.
Kimi ni Todoke follows Sawako, a girl who is cursed to look like Sadako from The Ring. At the beginning of the anime, she is friendless. That changes when Kazehaya, her classmate and most popular guy in her grade, goes out of his way to talk and become friends with her. She also befriends ‘delinquents’ Yano and Chizuru, along with the absent-minded Ryu. As with any shoujo series (or anything in the general direction of romance), the plot of the anime advances by misunderstandings forming and being resolved.
Watching Kimi ni Todoke felt like I was watching someone else’s dream. While the anime doesn’t have any metaphysical properties, it imitates it with how slow Sawako speaks and thinks. It makes it seem like we’re in a world of her creation, while in fact, we’re just seeing her interpretation of the world around her. Her naivety turns a world that has been very harsh to her into one where she’s constantly misunderstood. While Kazehaya and the girls becoming friends with her helps to turn around the rumors about her, they also start up other ones.
Kimi ni Todoke suffers from the same problem that most other romance anime does--it’s stuck in neutral most of the anime. While I know why it’s like this, it still annoys me that I have to watch two people fumble around with their feelings for 25 episodes. Good thing is that Kimi ni Todoke is not just about Sawako’s romantic mishaps. The anime also explores Yano’s and Chizuru’s romantic life, which honestly is more interesting than Sawako’s. There’s some good comedy in there also, especially any scene with Sawako trying to talk to someone who doesn’t know her. I should be fair though, the misunderstandings that make Sawako’s love life go nowhere aren’t THAT frustrating, it’s just annoying from time to time.
I think the worst thing about Kimi ni Todoke was that it was boring to watch. I took my time finishing this anime since I didn’t have any drive to watch more than one episode a day on most days. While watching several airing anime can take some time I would have to watch this away, it still was at the bottom of my list to watch. Like I said at the beginning, maybe this anime isn’t meant for someone like me. Kimi ni Todoke isn’t bad--it can be quite funny and the characters are charming. It just isn’t something that pulls me in and gets me to watch episode after episode. I would only recommend it if you’re into shoujo anime, otherwise, you might find it a drag to watch.

100/100Rediscovering Kimi ni Todoke: A Journey of Maturation and RelationshipsContinue on AniListWhen I first watched Kimi ni Todoke, I was just about 13. At that time, I thought it was okay, nothing special. I was hoping for the love story to get moving faster, so I gave it a so-so rating of 3 out of 5 stars. But now, seeing it again as a bit older, it's like stepping into a whole new world!
Back then, the deeper meanings in the anime went right over my head. But now, with a bit more life experience, everything just clicks! It's like finding a hidden gem, something that only gets better with time. In essence, this rediscovery has been a revelation, a reminder that sometimes, the truest gems reveal themselves only with the passage of time. This anime is, without a doubt, a masterpiece, a testament to the intricate artistry of relationships and the profound beauty of self-discovery.
This anime isn't just about hearts and flowers. Like those high school slice-of-life shows, it's really about how people connect and change. With each episode, we get a deeper look into human connection. Sawako, the main character, is like all of us trying to figure out who she is and where she fits in. It's amazing to watch her discover a bit more about herself each time she meets someone new. And the problems she deals with? They feel so real.
Sawako's innocence is like a special ingredient. It's a reminder that sometimes, not knowing too much can be a beautiful thing. It's like finding a hidden treasure inside ourselves.
Now, let's talk about the friendships. The bond between Chizu, Ayane, and Sawako is heartwarming. It's like they complete each other. I can't help but appreciate the voice actress for Ayane (it's the same one that Celty of DRRR!), she brings so much depth to the character.
Ayane's backstory with her older boyfriend and the assault she went through, it's a tough subject. The way it's handled in this season, though, feels like it's normalized, which can be concerning. It's important for us to be aware of these things.
Another thing is the romance building between Chizu and Ryu is like a sweet cherry on top. It's genuine and heart-melting. You can't help but root for them. I really like Ryu, I burst into laughter every time he shows up on the TV screen.
Jo, one of the extra, adds a bit of comic relief. It's like a breath of fresh air in the midst of all the emotions. Somehow I ship him with Ayane, I really believe on this couple LOL. I know that couldn't really happen, but I feel sorry for Jo
Now, about Kurumi. She can be really annoying, but her presence is crucial for Sawako's growth. Dealing with Kurumi helps Sawako recognize her own feelings for Kazehaya and assert herself.
Looking forward to the next season, it's like reuniting with old friends (and a bunch of new WhatsApp stickers). I'm excited to see how everyone's journeys continue. This anime isn't just a show; it's a part of my own story of growing up and understanding myself better. It shows how every person we meet shapes us, even if we don't realize it at first. It's a reminder that sometimes, the truest gems reveal themselves only with the passage of time. Kimi ni Todoke is a masterpiece, teaching us the magic of friendships and the wonder of discovering who we are.
