DESCRIPTION
From superstar creator Mitsurou Kubo (original concept and character designs for Yuri!!! on Ice) comes a dramatic, funny, time-traveling high school story about what it means to cheer on a friend! What would you do if you had the chance to do everything… again?
Kinichiro isn’t even that bad. It’s just that on the first day of high school, his eyes made him look shifty, so people assumed he was trouble. Now it’s graduation, and he’s looking back on three years with no friends. He never even joined a club. But after a bloody collision and an accidental fall, he wakes up a high school freshman, with the chance to try it all over… AGAIN!!

70/100A good casual read and pleasing art. Unfortunate that the story built up, ended the way it did.Continue on AniListAgain!! A story of high school Inamura in his last year, graduating as a loner without friends, hope nor ambition. Inamura wishes he could go back in time to see the performance of the non-existent Oeundan club. However, due to some circumstances Inamura while chasing a girl falls and is transported 3 years back in time!
As the story progresses the main goal which is to REVIVE OEUDAN was established. How Inamura finds a way to get the broken down club back to it glory days and the many antics that would transpire were entertaining.
My personal favorite part of the story is the theater arc, more specifically volume 8 of the manga. The featured characters and the romantic tension were what made it my favorite! But I cannot overlook the story, which also made me motivated to finish reading the manga.
The only drawback of the story or plot is the latter half. By the end, it felt as though the story lacked direction and even felt rushed. Which was unfortunate to see, as I was invested on it reading cover to cover.
The art of the story is well drawn, from the characters to the environment were comfortable to see. Personally, I find the character designs to be decent. Although I do find the manga covers really pretty and eye catching, as you can see from the few images down below.
-------------------------- Characters ----------------------
Kin'ichirō Imamura
Characters, male lead Inamura looks like a delinquent but has a pure heart. Trying his best to change as seen throughout the story, he has the most character development amongst the ensemble or cast. How they portrayed Inamura in the latter half, was off putting to say the least.
Yoshiko Usami
Female lead Usami, leader of Oeundan. Using the most traditional form of cheering, and her passion for the craft all the more keeps her going. The character herself is blunt most of the time, especially at important moments.
Other Characters
The cast surrounding the leads were nice. The members of Oeudan had varying and unique personality. Truthfully gave a smirk and a laugh at times. Another notable part of the cast is the antagonists of the story, certain scenes invoked emotion of anger and made me feel annoyed at times. Which I commend as finding antagonist that actually make you hate them is not common to see.I suggest trying to read the manga, a very casual read to pass the time and see the first-hand revival and cheer of Oeudan!

70/100Solid series with a weak ending that just ends. Implied shit is for losersContinue on AniListThis series is about a a guy who had 0 friends throughout his entire high school. One of his regrets that the male cheerleading squad (Ouedan) which is run by a woman was disbanded. Now after an accidental slip he falls back in time to the very first time he entered school. Alongside this other girl who also slipped into the past with him when he tumbled he will try his best to somehow make sure that the Ouedan doesn't fall this time.
The series is split into 3 arcs essentially. The Ouedan arc. The Drama Club arc. And the final arc. The first 2 arcs are as solid as you'd expect. The plot progression is constantly moving forward, urging you to want to know what happens next.
I really found the characters to be unique and interesting here. Yes they do fall under some stereotypes. But i think the author's done an excellent job of making them feel like people rather than just existences in a manga. They get annoyed with each other. They are hypocritical, they are mean, they are nice. They act like what there environment tells them to do. Basically they act like teenagers.
Granted it still has the problem where Highschool is like basically life and death of your entire future thing than manga series seem to do. But yeah overall i would say an interesting and fun way to showcase a teenagers life.
I also like the slight maturity on our main character. He is in fact nearly 19 years old and from the future so he has that slight edge. And he desperately tries to make do with it.
I do think it is a bit BS that the male lead never thought about going back in time and using his knowledge for selfish gains. Which is pretty BS i'd say.
There are also some other issues like there is an entire pregnancy chapter only to be revealed that it was a dream all along or smth. Like why waste time on bullshit like these if there is going to be absolutely nothing to gain from it. There is no pay off. Nothing interesting in that chapter. It just feels useless and unnecessary. This happens twice more i think. So again quite ridicolous.
There is also the ending being quite disappointing. Like it just ends. Very underwhelming. There is also the romance being a factor in the entire series but no pay off to back that shit up. Yeah it does the whole implied shit. But its still annoying it pulls that shit.Lets not forget that it never explains the supernatural bullshit either.
Its funny though in regards to ending. You can exactly see when the axe happened lol.
Despite these issues. I'd still recommend the manga. Its got great character development, interesting characters, and a good use of 2nd chance. I think it sorta fails on you know giving any negatives to the bully of the manga as well as some over the top spectacle like a women confessing while doing a naked handstand. Yes this is in the manga. But it feels so out of place you know? Like the author just wanted to draw a naked woman lmao.

50/100This is the kind of manga to add to “favorites” and recommend to no one.Continue on AniListThis is the kind of manga to add to “favorites” and recommend to no one. Again!! is a story that doesn't progress. It's ostensibly a lovely story of some highly dysfunctional people who learn to be better together – except nothing sticks. Though I enjoyed myself most of the way, I'd occasionally look back and realize that nothing had changed; that none of the exciting moments had any lasting impact on the plot nor the characters. Events that seem big and cathartic do nothing – as soon as a character or relationship has developed, it promptly un-develops again. Then, with fifteen plot threads hanging loose, the manga takes a sudden turn into inscrutability, ends hurriedly and abruptly – I can only imagine it was unexpectedly canceled – and thus left me feeling confused and regretful that I got invested in these characters.
And that's why it hurts: I did get invested in the characters. Despite having no idea how these characters think, or why they do the things they do, I cared. I went to the local bookstore weekly, and whenever a new volume of Again!! was out, I picked it up on sight. I even made a playlist of the songs mentioned in the story – an eclectic mix of '80s rock, '90s pop ballads, and '00s idol fare – and listened to that on loop to set the mood. I relished each and every translation note. I probably shed tears once every other volume!
Is the art why I cared? It's incredible – possibly the most powerful art I've ever seen in a manga. Kubo puts so much passion into every brush stroke – like the ouendan's brusque cheering style, you feel the sheer spirit she pours into each forceful, ink-splattered brush stroke. Might the intensity be why I cared? Though the story mostly spins its wheels, the way in which the story is told is masterfully emotional: it's packed with passionate facial expressions and cloyingly determined declarations of love and friendship. Or are perhaps the characters themselves why I cared? Despite a few despicable apples, and despite a lack of intelligible character development, they're written in such a way that I couldn't help but feel like a part of their found family.
Whatever the case is, I did care… and now here I am, at the bottom of the steep decline that started after 9½ volumes, feeling robbed of a resolution to… anything, really. In retrospect, the care I put in was a form of hope – hope for the characters to get to where they're going, for their relationships to grow, and for the story to have something to say – but that hope went tragically unanswered.
Again!! is and will always be special to me. I poured a lot of my feelings into reading it. I know, though, that I'll wish I hadn't.
