Stitch's jump into the "wonderful" and wild world of anime worked out pretty smoothly with the first season of his next TV show, Stitch!. From what it gave us, it wasn't too far off from what we had gotten in previous installments in the Lilo & Stitch series, except now we are in a brand new location with brand new characters, brand new situations, and a brand new Lilo. It could possibly bother longtime fans who are heavily attached to what came before, but I managed to like it quite a bit when watching it, and plenty of others did too it seems, as the show would get a second season pretty soon after the first one ended. This season would be subtitled as Stitch: ~The Mischievous Alien's Great Adventure~, which is somewhat of a misleading title, because this "great adventure" Stitch goes on is, for the most part, the same as what we have always gotten.
In terms of real changes that were made to this season, it brought us some new characters that would become a recurring or mainstay for the remainder of the season, such as Boogoo, Sasha and Tigerlily, all of who do get their own dedicated episodes introducing them and bringing them into plots that happen throughout the season. However, they don't end up changing much about the show or the main dynamic whatsoever: it is still mainly about Stitch and Yuna living their lives, doing stuff and stopping Hamsterviel and other forces from time to time, which could be seen as just more of the same and nothing more to comment on. However, compared to the last season, this one escalates things quite a bit in terms of tone and how episodes play out, making for a definite improvement over the previous season in many ways. It is mostly still what you would expect not just from this show, but the Lilo & Stitch franchise as a whole, but it manages to keep things more exciting, more frantic, and more interesting (at times) while still keeping its core identity and structure intact.
The stories are more or less what you have seen before, mostly being with Stitch, Yuna, and the others dealing with more of the other experiments re-appearing and other situations that they have to deal with, and while it can get a bit tired and repetitive at plenty of points (especially when they repeat the same plotlines that Lilo & Stitch: The Series used), but they do manage to do new things with these old ideas to where it works out well enough, and is usually still enjoyable to watch, the characters are more or less the same as before, not receiving any kind of major development or changes from before, which makes sense, and as for the new characters, they were alright: not really some of my all-time favorites, but they didn't bug me at all either, and I grew to like them, the voice acting is also about the same as before as well, except now these guys have grown a tendency to yell a lot of the time, which is definitely not anything new for anime, but whenever it happens consecutively often, it can get pretty annoying, the animation is actually somewhat of an improvement overall, where the style and look hasn't changed too much, but the expressions are much more exaggerated and cartoon-y, there's a lot more fast-paced movement and entertaining battle scenes, and there weren't too many noticeable weird parts that looked off (not too many, anyway), and the humor is more or less the same as before, with there being some jokes that were funny and some that caught me way off guard, but it is mostly what you would expect from a Disney show, nothing too hilarious, but it works well enough.
Once again, I think the main problem that this season suffers from is with the main storylines and how repetitive they can get, despite the fact that I still managed to like them. This especially rings true for those like me who have seen the previous Lilo & Stitch TV series, because a lot of the time, they will end up using the same exact storylines, the same exact set-ups, or both at the same time, each usually involving an experiment that was previously featured on that other show. Granted, again, they do try to do new things with these simple premises so that they don't feel like they are treading on too much familiar ground, but that doesn't make the storylines any less generic or typical. Also, this season of the show does like to follow the "Fuck It" line of logic a lot of time, where they will just pull in elements from other parts of the franchise for no real reason, and not really give too much of an explanation as to how it got there or what has changed about it. That's a minor complaint more then anything, but it is still one worth mentioning eitherway.
Overall, despite the generic storylines and lack of proper explanation in a lot of cases, Season 2 of Stitch! manages to give us plenty more of what we liked about the original season, while also building things up by introducing new characters, new scenarios, and a new boost in quality that makes things much more fun to watch, which I really appreciated. I would definitely recommend it for those who loved the first season, as well as those who love this franchise or others like it in general, because while it is still far from perfect, it should be simple and comforting enough to where you can still have a good time watching it regardless. And hey, if that wasn't enough to convince you, then let me be the first to inform you that there is an episode in this show where the characters actually go to Disneyland........ yes, it is just as weird and confusing as you think it is, and I kind of love it for that.
