DESCRIPTION
Do you or someone you know need an exorcist who works cheap? Reigen's your guy! What's his secret to busting ghosts while keeping prices low? Well, first, he's a fraud, and second, he pays the guy who's got the real psychic power—his student assistant Shigeo—less than minimum wage. Shigeo is an awkward but kind boy whose urge to help others and get along with them is bound up with the mental safety locks he's placed on his own emotions. Reigen knows he needs to exploit Shigeo to stay in business, yet for better or worse he's also his mentor and counselor. And he also knows whenever the normally repressed kid's emotions reach level 100, it may unleash more psychic energy than either of them can handle!

88/100Great story of an OP kid who just wants to lead a normal middle school life.Continue on AniList
__Story__: __7/10__ The story of Mob Psycho 100 is about Shigeo Kageyama, a.k.a Mob. Mob is an extremely talented Esper, who has insane psychic powers, but just wants to be like everyone else around him. Whether that be confessing to his crush, joining a club, or just making friends. Mob takes on each and every knew day in search of who he truly is and his purpose in the world.
For being only 101 chapters, the pacing for the story does feel slow. When reading, it might feel like a fight is dragging out a bit too long or the downtime between 1 fight and another feels like an eternity. That negative aside, the story itself is crafted really well. With most Action series, it feels like the reader is going from the results of one fight to another until the series comes to a close, but with Mob Psycho 100 the downtime between fights is skillfully filled with the trials and tribulations that a normal middle schooler has to deal with. It’s not just random filler to give the reader a break before the next fight. The reader gets to witness Mob grow right before their eyes. These parts of the manga are so well-designed to the point where it made me feel as if I was reading a Coming of Age and Slice of Life manga rather than an Action one.
Now, it’s not to say that this manga doesn’t have its fair share of fights, because it definitely does. And, the fights themselves are something to brag about as well. Just like the title of the series Mob Psycho 100, Mob unleashes a massive amount of power when he reaches 100% capacity, and this makes for some very heated and entertaining fights. The fight outcomes are quite predictable if you’re a veteran of Action series but that doesn’t take away from the uniqueness of each fight. The countless villains Mob faces, and all their different abilities make for very entertaining and fun fight sequences.
The ending, without spoiling anything, was very satisfying. Throughout the entire series, the reader learn who Mob is as a person, what he holds dear and what he struggles with. As the reader watches him evolve as a person chapter after chapter, it all comes to fruition at the end and the reader gets to witness the fine young man that Mob grew into.
__Art__: __4/10__ What can I say about the art except, rough. From the very first page, I was turned off by the art. Now, the author ONE did the art for Mob Psycho 100 and if you are familiar with ONE’s web comic of One Punch Man you’ll see the resemblance between this series and that one. However, that does not take away from how poor the drawings are. Some of the characters are drawn unique enough to tell the difference from one another but majority of the time, almost all the characters look the same. It’s not until you get to the last couple chapters of the manga where you start seeing improvement in the art style. Now, I’ll give it this, whenever Mob reaches his 100% capacity the way Mob is drawn is kicked up a notch and gives this dark, menacing feel which fits Mob in those scenarios.
__Characters__: __9/10__ Dimple, Mob, Reigen, Ritsu, and many more. The characters in Mob Psycho 100 are amazing. So many characters lend themselves to the story in more ways in one. Whether it be Reigen helping Mob with his powers or Musashi helping Mob with his school life. ONE has created a colorful cast of lovable characters that stick with you even after you’ve finished the series. Rarely will a character have the same personality as the next, and this lends itself to the story development even more so. For me, the characters make this series for me. Not only are they there as steppingstones for Mob’s growth but Mob and the others are also there for each other, and every character’s growth is a byproduct of that.
Now, what is an Action manga without some powers, right? This right here is another shining point of the character designs in Mob Psycho 100. Some abilities will leave the reader thinking “That’s is one awesome ability”, while others can leave the reader thinking “Haha, what a weird and funny ability”. All the different abilities the characters have are all different enough to make the characters themselves standout. One character might have the ability to heal while another one can instantaneously conjure up a thunderstorm. The series does a great job exploiting the different and unique powers to keep the reader locked in during the whole duration of the series.
__Enjoyment__: __8/10__ This manga was a fun one to read. It’s filled with action, character development, comedy, and much more. It was a blast getting to see all the funny interactions with the characters, the awesome fight scenes where the characters let their powers flow out, and the development of Mob’s character from this shy little kid to a fine young man. The culmination of the story telling, and characters made this series a wonderous ride.
__Verdict__: Overall, I’d recommend this manga to about just anyone. It finds it’s charm in being a funny little Action manga that takes you on a ride as you read chapter to chapter. It’s hilarious, has awesome action scenes, and can even make you contemplate society and its standards. With it’s amazing character design and well written story, it’s no doubt going to keep your eyes glued to the series.

100/100"You're the protagonist of your own life." - Reigen AratakaContinue on AniListThis review is spoiler free.
The 2010s were certainly an interesting decade for anime and manga. I find myself reflecting on the titles that were huge when they released, but failed to stick in the long run. I also reflect on those that were acclaimed at their release and held on. One of those would be “Mob Psycho 100”. Now, in this example I can speak to the atmosphere of what it was like when the anime first came out. Fresh off the success of “One Punch Man” with fans clamoring for more of ONE’s writing we were blessed with a beautiful adaptation of his other work courtesy of Studio Bones. If I had to describe it I would say MP100 was poised to be a cult hit, one that had a loyal following but wasn’t quite as successful to a wider audience due to its more offbeat elements. However, as time has marched on I can confidently say it’s risen in the ranks and is now considered one of the best anime of the last decade. But what of the manga that started it all?
His name is Kageyama Shigeo, an emotionally withdrawn middle school student just trying to make it through each new day. However, within him lies an immense psychic power beyond anyone’s comprehension. As his emotions intensify his powers grow increasingly out of control. So with the guidance of the deceptive, yet helpful, conman Reigen Arataka he puts his abilities to use while trying to improve upon himself. “Mob Psycho 100” first and foremost is the story of Shigeo, otherwise known as Mob due to his nondescript nature. More than anything he wants to be average, he wants to be like everybody else. His struggle comes in the form of closing himself off from the irrational aspects of himself, his emotions and powers. It makes for a very compelling story where ultimately our hero’s greatest feat comes in the form of conquering himself. I’ve seen fans perceive MP100 to be an anti-shonen series. I wouldn’t exactly use those words myself as it suggests ONE designed the manga to counter what other mangaka were making. However, it is a shonen manga that provides an acute awareness of what the demographic tends to lean towards while offering its own approach. Arcs that would normally conclude with the protagonist defeating a huge threat end with Mob reaching a point of mutual understanding with them, or Reigen asserting himself as the adult in the situation and attempting to resolve matters himself. ONE has said he wanted MP100 to be a kind manga and it certainly achieves this goal of comforting the audience by offering wisdom about how to appreciate others and our own unique quirks.
When it comes to the manga perhaps the thing everybody inevitably discusses is the art. I have seen an endless amount of people weigh in on it, many of which lean towards calling it unprofessional and even bad. Some have admitted to passing over the manga in favor of the anime due to Bones’ polished animation. I’ve even seen professional critics dub it a manga they wouldn’t recommend to any demographic and I can only assume it’s because the manga appears crude to them. Where I stand on this is ONE’s art started off rough, but he definitely progressed in huge ways over the manga’s run. His simplistic style loans itself perfectly to the story he created because it reinforces that Mob is an ordinary boy, I suspect that is why Bones chose to work with it rather than redesign everyone for the anime. Some moments in the manga are actually very beautiful. And as far as the overall layout and construction of the manga is concerned, it is anything but amateur. Something not a lot of people will talk about is there is more to manga than who has the most “beautiful” art or even who is the best writer. Neither of those elements really get the chance to properly soar in this medium without an understanding of how to frame it all. This is why paneling is so important in my manga reviews, the way someone lays their images out to the reader is necessary for furthering the pace and emotional impact of the story. If you can’t achieve that then it leaves me wondering why this specific format was chosen instead of making it a book. Different art forms require different skillsets and not every mangaka seems as aware of how their paneling presents their story. However ONE displays a very sophisticated understanding of this, even more than some mangaka with arguably prettier art at their disposal. You look at his manga and can follow them clearly and the pages never feel cluttered with too many things happening at once. It never feels boring, nor does it feel unfocused. I think it’s a real shame when people overlook the manga because they expect it to be a poorer version of the story. I would make the argument it is deceptively simple.
“Mob Psycho 100” is a manga that definitely knew what it wanted to be and was able to achieve that with near perfection. ONE’s vision of a gentle story that helps the reader appreciate people on a better level really shines through. Even with the almost jarring shift towards darker elements in the Mogami arc, he never lost sight of the original messages and themes. The anime is excellent in its own right, but none of that would have been possible if not for the manga. I am also very grateful for the fact that ONE was able to finish it on his own terms. It doesn’t feel padded out or rushed, I think he was able to accomplish exactly what this manga needed in order to reach that conclusion. And now that time has passed and the third season of the anime is upon us I am confident in calling it a modern masterpiece. An emotionally resonant, creative, funny, poignant, and relatable tale that people will continue to reflect upon. If you’re apprehensive about the manga due to the things you’ve seen or heard about the art, don’t let that hold you back from experiencing it. Both are equally worth your time. Having read it twice now I can say it’s one of my favorite manga I’ve ever read and I look forward to exploring again in the future.

__MOB PSYCHO 100__ Mob Psycho is one of the best animes you should watch. If you are enthusiastic about action, shounen, and superpowers, well, here's your sign to definitely watch Mob Psycho. This anime is very different from other action/shounen anime that I've watched. CHARACTERS
We can see here the development of the characters. Their improvements as the show goes on. For instance, the main protagonist is Shigeo Kageyama, also known as Mob.
In the first season, he's just a regular boy. He wants to control his power. Then he meets Reigen Arataka, who is both his master and a con artist.
Despite the fact that his master assisted him in controlling his power by giving Mob words of wisdom and advice, Mob's rage is definitely uncontrollable, and no one can stop it. In the last part of Season 1, we can see that Reigen Arataka accepted Mob's rage. He turned Mob's rage into something that only adults can do, which also includes psychic powers. With this outcome, Mob learned that his psychic powers are just a normal thing. Reigen showed Mob that he's a normal person, whether he has psychic powers or not. The same is true for their adversary. He talked to them and brought them back to their senses.
There are also other characters that showed improvement, including Ritsu Kageyama, Dimple, Teruki Hanazawa, and many more.
STORY
The plot revolves around Mob. He wants to control his power, so he consults Reigen Arataka, and this spices things since Reigen used Mob's psychic abilities to exorcise ghosts and other paranormal entities. It's interesting since there are adversaries along the way that help Mob finally understand himself and control his feelings and emotions. We can see this kind of improvement from the start of season 2 until season 3.
ANIMATION
The animation was really inclined toward the story. It's like average animation, as you can see from the characters and setting. It's just simple and plain, but that simplicity makes the fight scene more amazing and accurate. In my opinion, the animation was really made for this anime. It doesn't need special effects, glow-ups, etc. It just needs simplicity, that's all.
P.S. The manga of Mob Psycho is great, but the adaptation is greater. In my opinion.
Here's a quote from Reigen Arataka to brighten your day.
When things go south, it's okay to run away.
"Don't be ashamed if you are different from others. Just be yourself, because there are people who will like you for who you are. If you meet them someday, treasure them because they are few in this world."
