65/100Making a CardCaptor Sakura sequel... Where the protagonist is not the CardCaptor Sakura herself!Continue on AniListMaking a CardCaptor Sakura sequel... Where the protagonist is not the CardCaptor Sakura herself!
At the begining, clearcard had an interresting proposal, although quiet unoriginal. The Sakura Cards dissapears, and She starts creating new cards as a result of her powers increasing. That's not something new, but We are so happy to see our best girl again that We can easily brush this repetitive plot. What is hard to shallow is... The plot not focusing on Sakura at all.
Introduced on this sequel, Akiho and Kaito are good characters. They are surrounded in a mystery that made up an interresting story. But, when you plan on using them in a sequel from Cardcaptor Sakura, We would expect more of an actual exchange, for it to work together with a plot involving Sakura. Akiho is sweet, but felt much like a copy of Sakura, even if they were made to be parallels. Kaito was the mastermind, the main character, and the big revelation on the story. In the actual storyline, Sakura has been just helping the two of them see eye to eye, and understand each other. Were it a part of the story, it would be ok, but that was all the story was. Not even in the final battle, the decision, was left for Sakura to make. Instead, We had her play the role of a pawn, the acting of a detective and finally a support wingwomen for the two of them. The actual progress We see for Sakura is the slow but cute development of her relationship with Syaoran and, at the very end, her whole family supporting her after "discovering her secret". We did have some interresting tease of Touya's magic too, but It felt like a sidethought, that didn't get too much development. We discovered much more about Kaito's magic than Touya's. In the end, It honestly gave the same feeling I had when I finished Kingdom Hearts and started playing Kingdom Hearts2. Like, Where's Sora?! Who's that Roxas guy?! And although We come to love Roxas, at least the game does go back to the original character and the plotline. It never felt like the focus os the story was really Sakura. If anything, She was just a reader and helper for Akiho's story - What I think is good because of the Alice in Wonderland paralels, but still left much to be desires.
Talking about the plotline... the plot had many holes at the end that could easily continued a cool story, with the council of mages, collection of magic books aside from the clow and clockland, and even the collaboration of Syaoran's mother in the battle, as well as the mysteries of Sakura's mother past with Lillie. It could be easily used for another sequel in the future, but I won't keep my hopes up. There is so much that could be still explored in the universe, It feels lacking for CLAMP to leave it like this. If they plan to use it on a more adult series, or even in another sequel for CCS, I hope they make good use of it.
But overall, the art is still beautiful, and after so many years after the original CCS, I still enjoyed this sequel just for being able to eat crumbles of syaosaku and touyuki.
