DESCRIPTION
Everything you thought you knew about vampires is wrong. They can walk in the daylight and holy water doesn't burn them. In fact, vampires can pass as normal humans so perfectly that even other vampires have trouble spotting them. Until they drink human blood, that is; then they transform into monstrous beasts who mindlessly rape and murder. But not all vampires are evil. The secret task force that patrols Tokyo's vampire population has several fanged operatives, including half-human Yuuki Anzai, who believes that his human heritage lets him resist his species' basest cravings. But after Yuuki rescues college student Tsukasa Taira from a vampire stalker, he realizes that he's succumbing to urges he's never felt before.

58/100Devil's Line is a mixed bag, with an interesting premise, but full of technical inconsistencies.Continue on AniListWhen Devil's Line started airing, I definitely wanted to like it, but as it continued, it got harder and harder to make excuses for how mediocre it ended up. At first, watching Devil's Line felt kind of like a guilty pleasure, you know the kind you get when you're enjoying Twilight or something similar, but the pleasure bit faded as the show continued came to a conclusion. There were times that I considered dropping it, but I'm glad that I didn't. It wasn't that Devil's Line was terrible, it was just that it was inconsistently good. More on what I mean in a minute.
Technically speaking, Devil's Line was a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes the animation was pretty solid, but other times, it was really choppy. I would love to say that the choppy bits were few and far between, but in reality, it was pretty consistent. That being said, it seemed to be isolated to mostly the beginning of the series, but it could be that I just got used to it's choppiness. The sound was strange too, especially when the someone went full "Devil Mode". I get what they were trying to accomplish with their sound mixing in those segments, but it ended up being less creepy in the way that they wanted and more creepy in an amusing way. However, the sound isn't all bad, most of the music was pretty good, especially the ending, which kept me going for a couple of those weird episodes towards the end.
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy the premise of Devil's Line, especially since that's what drew me to it anyway. In fact, the themes of racism and segregation between Devil's and humans were the most interesting parts of the show. Unfortunately, those interesting themes got pushed to the side for a mediocre love story for most of the run-time. Not to say that Tsukasa and Anzai's dynamic wasn't interesting at first, but it got shallow and generic pretty quickly.
One of the major problems Devil's Line fell into had more to do with its overwhelming cast of side characters. And by that, I don't mean that there were countless side characters, but more that they were indistinguishable. Most of the designs were generic and they're referred to by name most of the time, which makes it extremely confusing, since you don't have a clear face to put with the name. Every time a side character's name was mentioned, I would struggle for a few minutes to figure out who they were talking about. Maybe I'm exaggerating this issue, but it certainly felt like they weren't doing a good job at making the designs unique enough to stand out, especially the police force characters.
I think that illustrates Devil's Line's inconsistencies well enough, and I haven't even touched on the story at all. I won't go into detail, but I'll say that it's the same as everything else in this show, inconsistently good, with quite a bit of bad. I wouldn't not recommend Devil's Line, but I would definitely not tell anyone that it's a masterpiece. Your enjoyment depends on your interest in the relationship of the main characters and how much the premise and themes hold your attention. If those aren't enough, you aren't going to find much else.

35/100Vampire smut. There was some fun over the top action scenes but at the end of the day... it's mostly just smut.Continue on AniList"Say, I have a pretty good and original idea for a new series."
"What is it?"
"It's a series about vampires. Specifically, the romance between a vampire and a human. That's never been done before, right?"
"...Uh well you see--"
"But in addition to the trashy vampire and human romance, there's laughable over the top vampire action. Like everybody knows the true and proper way of killing a vampire is bringing out the rocket launchers. Fuck that old nonsense what with the stakes and the holy water, we'll modernize this shit. JUST SHOOT THE VAMPIRE RIGHT IN THE FUCKING FACE"
"You got your series."
Devil's Line
There's actually not a whole lot to say about this one, if I'm being honest. It's exactly what it is printed on the label of the tin. A male vampire saves a female human college student and then they forge a... a bond.
...To be honest, maybe I'm just kind of crazy, but I just kept on continuing questioning why Tsukasa didn't initially find Anzai creepy at all.
Like he just keeps showing up at her window in the middle of the night and she's just... fine with that.
Also...
I couldn't help but feel bad for Tsukasa's original friend in episode one who
the entire thing is I guess that her friend whom in all actuality is secretly a vampire that is killing (and raping) other female students but in actuality loves Tsukasa. He's just diverting his violent and sexual urges away from Tsukasa to others. But Anzai is like all "no humans and vampires can't have romantic relationships" but then he just almost immediately starts repeatedly visiting Tsukasa after the original vampire friend is out of the picture and he and Tsukasa of course end up in a relationship.
...I can't believe I was tricked into watching vampire NTR.
Almost predictably, to me, the romance between Anzai and Tsukasa was for sure the worst part of this show. Like I absolutely just cannot get behind using
attempted rape as a way to bring two characters closer together. Like I get it. The professor that tries to rape Tsukasa is human.
And Anzai who is a vampire which are painted as bloodthirsty monsters is the one who ends up saving Tsukasa from being raped. So that only further drives her to be more comfortable around Anzai. But like... couldn't you have just tried to flesh out their relationship WITHOUT resorting to have her almost be raped? If it didn't feel entirely tacked on it'd be one thing but...
...Really if you remove that, more or less the only other thing that's driving them towards each other is... well, lust. Which I guess is fine if what you're here to see is trashy vampire human romance.
Because rather weirdly, while the government is apparently perfectly aware of vampires existing, like almost the sole thing that's discussed about the government regulating vampires is...
Vampires and humans having sex?
It's apparently perfectly fine as long as there's a doctor overseeing it? I guess to assumingly stop the vampire if it goes out of control and fucking murders their mate during the process...? Like there's a goddamned secret police purposely for vampires and like a human group that's dedicated to bringing about their extermination, but rather than focus on that yeah let's focus on Anzai trying to temper and control his vampireness and THE ONLY WAY TO DO THAT IS FOR YOU AND TSUKASA TO GO INTO THIS BEDROOM WE'VE WIRED.
This show honestly felt like it didn’t know what it wanted to be. Trashy vampire/human romance or trashy over the top vampire action. Like my eyes would be glazing over as the show would be focusing on Tsukasa and Anzai, but then all of a sudden like some random slasher would just show up and brutally kill a reporter with a knife. Immediately, my attention would be dragged back to the show.
The idea of humans exposing vampires who are just trying to stay under the radar by like pelting them with or showing them bags of blood is neat. Some of the action scenes are actually kind of entertaining. Trashy, but entertaining! But when it comes down to it, that's not the main focus of the show...
This, is the main focus of the show. Unfortunately.
Devil's Line is bad, but beyond that, it's kind of fucking muddled. Could have been a full on trashy human vampire romance, or it could have been this trashy over the top vampire action. It tries to be both and it fails. And on top of that, because it's about vampires and has gore, it's another piece of garbage lobbed into the horror genre. Unfortunate.
A 3.5 out of 10 or 35 out of 100. I could probably see a situation to recommend this one in. If you want to watch some trashy romance with a side of over the top action then... fine. Going into this, it was already by default not my cup of tea.
So I guess if you want to be technical, it was better than I expected!
Though, I was expecting nothing...To be fair though, I did technically enjoy this a bit more than the other horror series that was also airing in Spring 2018...

95/100A hidden gem which mixes fiction and realityContinue on AniList__Devils line __ Love is The most twisted curse of them all - Satoru Gojo
Devils line in the primary sense is like Tokyo Ghoul and is often mistaken for a no logic romantic fantasy. Its one of those series that came by a few years and go by unnoticed.
By seeing the characters of the story at first glance its not unlikely to think its a slice of life rom com series, but the truth could only be further away. The story is far more Complicated and darker. it portrays the reality of the human nature.
The story revolves around Tsukasa taira a college girl and Yukki Anzai a human devil hybrid. Tsukasa taira is a normal college student till that faithful night.
One night while returning from her college, tsukasa encounters a devil and is attacked. Anzai who had been following this particular devil recuses tsukasa.
(In this world devils require human blood to survive. The police has formed a special unit consisting of Devils to fight devils. Anzai is a part of this special unit. though the devils from this unit have never injured or attacked anyone, the are still feared by the humans)After rescuing tsukasa, Anzai starts visiting her on regular basis and a young love starts to develop, though as the saying goes no good thing lasts forever and so was the young love.
on newyear's eve Anzai decides to propose tsukasa but little did he know a organization working from the shadows had started assassinating devils, fearing there powers and motives. Anzai gets short in the arm before he could propose but survives.
After this point the story really starts to develop in every way, weather it be the way it portrays human emotions everything from jealousy a lover feels to the despair a person feels when he loose everything. But the part in which the series really shines is the World building, It really shows what humans do when they encounter something the can not comprehend and explain using logic, they fear it.
Well as the story progress we really see till what lengths yuuki could go for anzai, she is ready to offer her blood as well as her body. not only yuuki but even anzai is ready to sacrifice himself for yuuki.
Well thats the beauty of love is'nt it?, a person in love is ready to sacrifice themselves for love, their happiness and even the person they love well...
Tsukasa faces this dilemma during the climax, Anzai is injured and is on the verge of death, he could be saved only by drinking the blood of a human but if he did he would be imprisoned as its prohibited for devils to drink the blood of a human..
This is one of the best series which mixes reality with fiction adding its own pinch of human devil romance in it.
well if you want to know how the series ends you might as well give it a watch!
