DESCRIPTION
Earth was on the brink of a third World War when super-powered individuals came forth from each country around the globe, ending the conflict and ushering in a new era of relative peace. Among those heroes, Japan is represented by a timid young girl known as “Shy.” She may spend more time worrying about her own shortcomings than she does battling villains, but she’ll show the world that despite it all she still has the heart of a hero!

80/100The kind of superhero manga I always wanted.Continue on AniListHi. Welcome to my review of Shy.
I need to start off by saying we need more superhero manga like this.
It takes a lot from western superhero comics like the ones from Marvel and DC, which I'm all in for it.Now let's start actually talking about it.
While it doesn't break new ground, it still manages to deliver an enjoyable story that's way more like Spider-Man than it is like something like Boku no Hero or Tiger & Bunny. I won't spoil the story here tho, I'll just give the basics of what make the story and conflicts really work the way they do, and that means talking about the best thing about Shy. What's that? The titular hero Shy of course!
Now this is where it gets tricky because I normally REALLY dislike those "Oh she's so shy and awkward that's so cute" kind of anime girls (I'm looking at you Gundam Witch from Mercury).
BUT
This one is actually not trying to just be shy anime girl waifu, as the title suggests her being shy is a very big part of her character.
Her personality and shyness are actually very believable and relatable and that works so well with her being a superhero, it creates a conflicting dynamic that serves as a base for her personal and superhero struggles. You'll totally feel for her, trust me. And the other characters, they're real folks too, both the other heroes and the villains, each with their own quirks and stuff. You'll be like "I know someone just like that!" But I won't spoil the side characters for you as part of the fun of this manga is seeing what kind of quirky character will show up at each point of the story, I'll just say this: Pepesha is great, I love Pepesha. (Thumping and Kfufu are also great)
The artwork undeniably stands out as one of its major strengths, featuring beautiful panels that capture the more heartfelt essence of the story, creating those touching and emotionally resonant moments.
So yea, Shy ain't reinventing the wheel, but it's got A LOT of heart. It's not about flashy superpowers and epic battles, it's more about the inner heroism, the personal struggles, and the everyday challenges.
So, if you're looking for something with that superhero feel but with a different twist for its protagonist, Shy is a VERY good pick, as long as you don't expect masterful complex writing for the story, of course. Shy is a take on the genre that'll make you see superheroes in a whole new light that from what I know hasn't been done in any other superhero manga/anime. I think it's a great hidden gem in the manga world and I'm happy it's getting an anime adaptation (that I hope doesn't suck).End of review!!!
Thanks for reading and sorry if the review isn't up for this site's standards, this is only my second review so I'm still learning.
