80/100Why don't girls randomly confess their love to me and try to fuck me FeelsBadManContinue on AniListI love wholesome hentai as much as the next guy, there really is no better postfap feeling than finishing a vanilla hentai. Instead of being in absolute horror knowing that you were extremely turned on by girls being raped, strangled or generally abused, you got to watch two characters grow close and explore their sexuality in a consenting relationship which is always a breath of fresh air in the sea of degeneracy. Although it doesn’t live up to another related one-shot, Aikagi the Animation, it is still an adequate peer to that hentai and I will cover why later on. Much like Aikagi, it gives us a gratifying note to end our session on and you will never be disappointed watching this hentai.
__Story : 7__ Truth be told, the plot of Aibeya is nothing special but the charm comes from it’s self-awareness of the genre it chooses to occupy. Straight off the bat, in a chibi-styled introduction evoking a comical tone we are brought up to speed with the situation MC-kun finds himself in, returning from home his parents decide to renovate their whole house on a whim and have left him alone on a trip. Conveniently for MC-kun his next door neighbour and childhood friend are going to be accommodating him and inevitably they end up entangled in each others’ lives and bodies. Aibeya like Aikagi wastes no time getting to the confession scene and instead of having our character tiptoe around the elephant in the room, we instantly get to see this relationship blossom which is an absolute necessity for a one episode hentai. Combined with the pace of the show, the ending also helps to push this score over to a 7 which was extremely satisfying (Hint : MC-kun interrupts Aki’s confession).
__Art and Animation : 7.5__ The art and animation in this show are definitely above average as it is a show built upon both subtle and explosive emotions which the facial expressions from the artwork manage to convey to the audience quite well and enables the viewer to subconsciously develop a greater understanding of the character’s personality as well as sneakily gets us emotionally invested in the relationship. While the animation shows quite a bit of motion recycling, this is made up by the wide array of positions and settings our characters find themselves in, especially the fan-servicey cosplay parts. As always, a more modest approach to character design is appreciated with our main girl not having absolute units of milkers attached to her that would cause scoliosis and cripple her for life.
__Characters : 6__ While the pacing of character and relationship development had many parallels to Aikagi, one crucial factor missing from this show was the trigger for rapid acceleration. What I mean by that is that there was a greater emotional buildup in the Christmas scene of Aikagi which led to the eventual explosion of emotions however that seems absent from Aibeya which makes the confession much less impactful on me personally. Furthermore there wasn’t much of couple development afterwards, we see them exploring however that felt more like ‘horny teenagers doing horny teenagers things’ while there was an elevation to how the characters in Aikagi developed so although not a letdown, the characters in Aibeya were much more mediocre lacking that extra level of depth.
__Wholesome Level : 8__ What can I say? I’m a sucker for sweet handholding, love confessing, eyes locked missionary sex. Those two characters living together, in an environment where they are actively encouraged to love each other just melts my virgin, girlfriendless, loner, loser heart more than any young adult film starring two ridiculously good-looking actors stricken with terminal illnesses could. If you’re tired of sitting in the shadows watching an ugly bastard troll rape the shit out of cute girls in a cave, I invite you to walk out of that cave and into the light of vanilla hentai.
__Enjoyment : 9__ While technically not as impressive or well-written as Aikagi the Animation, Aibeya is another voice resisting the onslaught of horrifying hentai that I willingly choose to consume, wrecking my psyche in the process. It still has a wholesome ending and wholesome emotions all throughout which is all you can ever ask for when browsing random hentai. It doesn’t reek of cashgrab or rushed production and it helped me forget about the overbearing loneliness which continues to strain my heart. If you’re looking for wholesome I wholeheartedly recommend Aibeya the Animation as another guaranteed heartwarmer or at least you won’t feel an onslaught of postnut depression wash over you which is always healthy.
