78/100A must watch for any shonen buff, preferably in theaters.Continue on AniListHad the privilege of seeing this in Cinemas. And as such I didn't have the opportunity of pausing it every few seconds to talk about how I feel, but I still have some things to say. __Firstly, what I'd give the movie overall__, it's a clean __ 70/100__. I put the rating first so it'll be easier for me to explain why. Story: 6/10 -
I would say hear me out on this, but I'm pretty sure that the general consensus on this series' story is that it is just basic af.
-
The movie is no different since, well, it's still adapting the same story.
-
There's nothing innovative, nothing new being done but it ain't bad, it just isn't special either, hence the score.
Characters: 7/10 -
I'm actually willing to give this higher/lower depending on who I'm talking to.
-
For a generic shonen buff, the characters are awesome. You have inspiring trope, the brave and unwavering MC and two quirky supporting characters. For someone of my taste, it's plain. Not bad, again, just plain. Characters in KnY can be found in almost every single action shonen so it doesn't really stand out to me.
-
However, I do think that the characters in this show are way more sympathetic, and one spoiler scene in the movie got me a little down. So, yea its generic but slightly better.
Animation: 10/10 -
Hands up everyone who saw this coming. No fucking shit it's gonna get a 10 for animation.
-
Ufotable outdid themselves when they aired the TV series last year, and they outdid themselves this year again with this movie. This shit hits different when seen on the big screen - the colours, the drawings and the fight scenes are truly something to be marveled at.
-
I cannot for the life of me stress how amazing the animation is and can't ever express my thanks to everyone on the art team for this show. It is simply one of the most crisp animations and art styles I've ever seen.
Direction : 4/10 -
One of the few negative points of the movie to me. The direction of this show is simply not good.
-
Many, many many repetitive shots of whatever the story is trying to emphasize. E.g 3 overhead shots in the span of 5mins during the last arc of the movie.
-
Very predictable directions as well due to the previous point, to the point where I can already tell what's going to happen without actually having any prior knowledge.
-
Lastly, there was nothing innovative. The adaptation feels like a flat out copy-paste of the manga pages, a lot of important stuff were omitted/not explained, making it super super hard for anyone who hasn't seen the original series to keep up. And before I get clowned for this, it's marketed as a movie so it's clearly meant for first-timers as well as returnees. A good example of a movie with good backstory explanations/summary is Detective Conan. No matter which movie it is, it always begins with a brief backstory to help newcomers familiarize. This is how you do marketing for a movie that can be enjoyed by both parties.
Music 4/10 -
Lastly, and sort of least, the music. Nothing particularly interesting here.
-
They practically repeated Kamado Tanjiro no Uta in like 3 different versions throughout the impactful scenes in the movie - we have a Hum version, a la-la-la version and bits of the original. That's all.
Conclusion - I have a slight love/hate relationship with this show. On one hand, I do not think it does anything particularly special on the outside. Yet, i would recommend this series to almost anybody who wants a taste of what shonen is like at its absolute peak - that in having godly animation and super fucking creepily amazing fights.
Lastly lastly, to help you better understand how I feel about this movie, I will give you a short statement. Did I think it was an amazing movie? Ans : Nope. Would I watch it again? Ans: 100% would anyday. You literally cannot miss the epitome of shonen animation. -

20/100Bad movie, with bad characters and nothing different from a Shounen clicheContinue on AniListContains spoilers.
What to talk about this movie..
The beginning of the film is very boring and it extends to its final part where things get more interesting.
If the fandom is already unbearable because of the anime I don't even want to imagine when the movie comes out in the west
Well, KNY is undoubtedly one of the most overrated animes that I've ever seen, I don't know why people exalt the work so much, the story isn't even as good as many say. The point is that if it were adapted by another studio I highly doubt that the anime would be as exalted as it is, but since it was adapted by one of the best studios currently in the industry the anime became so famous.
I still don't like the characters in this series and not to mention that they are simply clichés.
This film will not be much different from the series, it will become something "more overrated" than the same. I know that a lot of people created a very high hype for this film, but in my opinion this film has several inconsistencies.
The soundtrack and the story remains the same in relation to the series with the 26 episodes, only now we have Rengoku as one of the "main" characters.
As I have said several times, animation / production is one of the best in the anime industry and that is undeniable.
I was curious and went to see if anything changed in this "arc" in relation to the manga, and interestingly it is horrible just like the manga. Rengoku's death is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen and not to mention that there is no way the viewer can feel for the death of the character.
Regarding Rengoku, he was undoubtedly one of the characters who seemed to have more screen time and that his background would be well written, but his background is horrible and the author is even wrong to do that.
I honestly can't seem to like the KNY characters, when I try to like the "Rengoku", the author goes there and gives the character a horrible death..
My friends told me that the deaths of the other Hashiras will be in the same footprint as that of Rengoku. And not to mention that I see a lot of people saying that the end of the manga is horrible and I don't doubt that they can adapt some of these arcs in movie formats.
Btw, If you, like me, didn't like the main series and you don't want to waste your time watching the movie, I recommend that you go far and watch something that is less bad than this movie.

70/100Generic Battle Shounen Executed Well With Great Animation & Fights (No Spoilers)Continue on AniList*Ahhhh, yes, it is finally here! Easily among the most anticipated releases of all time, Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train has finally hit theatres in Japan & is burgeoning into western markets here shortly.* - - - Obviously, this movie is breaking all sorts of records if you have read the news within the past three months at all. In fact, it is now the undoubtedly the highest grossing movie of all-time in Japan & is likely to remain in that position for a very long time. Apparently, every citizen of Japan is rushing to theatres to finally see it like: The movie is a direct sequel to the events taking place in the animated TV series. If you aren't already familiar with the franchise in some capacity, watching this going in blind would be confusing. I wouldn't recommend that. However, that is unlikely to be the case because the TV series as well as the manga series is wildly popular. In fact, among the most popular franchises of all time already. To give some context to this review, I want to go ahead & state that ____I Am A Shounentard____. With that being said, I have read & watched a ton of battle shounen series in my time. And, unfortunately, Demon Slayer does not particularly stand out among them. In fact, Demon Slayer is among the most generic, suffering from an over-reliance of genre tropes & gag comedy that makes the series a tonal mess. One second, they will be fighting for their lives to chop the big bad's head off; the next, the cast of characters will deliver some quirky one-liners. This isn't inherently a bad thing, but, it does undermine the plot elements to some extent as I am never sure when to take Demon Slayer seriously or not. Regardless, Demon Slayer suffers the most from tropes in its character writing. The main cast of characters, quite frankly, *suck*. Tanjiro is the more serious mild-natured kind quiet one, Zenitsu is the never serious jokester & pervert, and Inosuke is the always emotional tough guy. These attributes alone pretty much summarize their entire character. And no character development takes place during the movie. At least the franchise understands its own strengths. That being said, rather than commiting runtime to actual character development, the movie would rather focus on big fight set pieces (which is a good thing). Ultimately, the fights & the animation is what makes Demon Slayer great, nothing else. Two main fights occur during the runtime of this film. The first of which is a fight between our main cast of three knuckleheads + Rengoku the Flame Hashira vs. Enmu. Enmu is a new big bad introduced during this arc & he has a wide variety of abilities. Foremost of which is a sleep inducement ability, which essentially makes anyone who meets his gaze fall asleep & enter a dream like state. This ability is seemingly overpowered; however, our main cast inevitably manage to combat this broken ability with a variety of methods. After Enmu's defeat, the next big fight set piece occurs. With Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Tanjiro all recieving injuries after the previous spat, they have to sit this one out. This is one quality where Demon Slayer seems to deviate from the tropes of battle shounen. Plot armor is not that strong in this series, seemingly anyone can die at anytime given the right circumstances. The next big fight is between Rengoku the Flame Hashira & another newly introduced big bad -- a member of the Upper Moons (for context, this refers to the stronger demons who have received more blood from Muzan). However, this fight is much more serious in nature & significantly better in relation to its predecessor. This fight is a showdown between the elite of the elite. The animation quality takes it up a notch with amazing flame particle effects emanating from the Flame Hashira himself. & it is just plain epic to put it simply. I think watching this fight would justify the time & monetary cost of watching this movie alone. The outcome of this battle becomes the catalyst for the next major arc to take place in the Demon Slayer franchise. Both parties become significantly wounded; however, a winner is ultimately declared in the end by proxy of actually surviving. And then, the movie ends. If I had to summarize my review of this film in simple ratings, I would do it as follows: 1) *Characters* => 5/10 (they just aren't all that strong) 2) *Story* => 6/10 (just a simple continuation of the mainline series, nothing new here) 2) *Fights* => 9/10 (stakes are raised to the highest they have been all series) 3) *Animation* => 9/10 (suffers from highs and lows; the highs are very very VERY high highs but it can be underwhelming in the less action-y moments of the film in an attempt to save budget i suppose) If you put these altogether, I think the film is worth watching for people who are fans of shounen, like the mainline series, or just simply want to see what the hype is all about. I would recommend the film as a whole, just not to newcomers of the franchise. It has a very high production value with great animation & fight set pieces that I think most people can derive some enjoyment from. *Overall Rating* => 7/10
