80/100A True Adaption of the best story!Continue on AniListWhen I started adventures I was under the impression it was really just a manga version of the games. Just a straight adapation that shows the games in a new light. While of course the manga does indeed follow the games much more closely than their anime counterpart, mearly calling them an adaption would be a disservice. Indeed that was one of the main reasons it took me so long to follow start reading this great manga. I thought I was just going to see what I knew in new light but when I started I saw a different looking Red, a starting point dissimilar to what I remembered from the games, a new character in Green and overall it wasn't at all what I expected. But now I'm way past that point, I've seen a good amount of this manga and feel silly even considering change to be a bad thing. The manga is weird in the best way possible and while I don't agree with all its decisions it has surely been a wild ride. In fact before the BW arc the worst arcs IMO were those that followed too closely to the games. The current arc of SWSH feels kind of underwhelming and the FRLG arc is one of the only arcs I hate just due to how it feels like hollow advertising. This all brings us to now, where I am reviewing the most recent arc I've read BW. I haven't seen the sinnoh arcs so maybe this trend starting them but the BW arc is the arc that feels the most like an adaption of the games. Of course it isn't one to one but it's the kind of thing I expected from this manga when I started quite a while ago but is that a god or bad thing? Well I think not. The BW story is already one of the better stories so I think adapting it more faithfully works wonders for this story. Besides it just allows the chance to expand the story and just due to the nature of the manga fill in some of the weaker parts of the narrative. Not really in terms of the narrative itself but a certain character or should I say duo of characters. Now the great story can be experienced with a player character that can actually interact with it. We don't just have the great characters of Iris, N, Cheren and others but also the main characters that can just add to this wonderful story. This is definetly one of my favourite pairs of protags and how they interact with N (who is somehow even better than his game counterpart) was great to see. They have strong journeys and while I wish White got a little more screentime I still believe it resulted in a fabulous set of characters. Making this my third favourite arc of the manga. The gym leaders were handled well, the cliffhanger at the end of the arc was great in setting up B2W2 and it has only made me more excited to continue this great series.
