DESCRIPTION
In Japan, participation in extra-curricular activities is as fundamental a part of an education as chalk and gym shorts. However, not all students are overachievers, and for those like Yuki Ojima, groups like the Food Research Club are welcome havens in which to slack-off. But what's a slacker to do when the radical new candidate for Student Council president announces her intent to get rid of clubs like the FRC? Well, getting the help of the current Student Council president is a good start, but HIS suggestion is so counter-intuitive that it's crazy: Yuki should run for the Student Council himself? And yet, it's SO crazy that it just might work! Especially when Chisato, the chocolate-adverse president of the FRC (and Yuki's best childhood friend,) and members of other targeted school clubs start to join the swelling FRC army. But can this army of goofs and goof-offs coast all the way to political victory? Or will someone have to step up to the plate and take one for the term?

75/100Not the best anime plot-wise, but the characters are greatContinue on AniListKoi to Senkyo to Chocolate is an anime based off of a visual novel going by the same name. Being based off a visual novel, it’s hard to fit the plot of a 40-50 hour game to an anime that’s 12 episodes. I believe that Koichoco does an okay job fitting the plot into the time slot allocated. That being said, there are definitely problems with the anime plot, but they’re not enough to ruin it for me.
Yuuki finding out he's going to run for school president, whether he likes it or not
Koichoco’s main character is Yuuki Oojima, a high schooler that gets pushed into running for president of his school after another candidate, Satsuki Shinonome, states that one of her main policy goals is to cut clubs that drain funds and have little to no achievement. Yuuki’s club, the Food Research Club, is part of the main clubs that would be cut if Satsuki wins the upcoming election. Yuuki decides to run after getting support and encouragement from the other club members. While his campaign starts out as a single-issue candidate focused on not cutting clubs (and also stating that his name is Oojima, not Ooshima), his platform expands as time goes on. As with any candidate running for any office, he faces several speed bumps and discovers how other candidates use tricks to sway favor.
Being an anime that’s mainly focused on Yuuki’s exploits with the five heroines, I’ll cut to the chase and briefly talk about all of the girls that have routes in the visual novel that the anime’s based off of:
Chisato Sumiyoshi
Chisato Sumiyoshi is Yuuki’s childhood friend and the president of the Food Research Club. Chisato and Yuuki live next to each other and walk with each other to school every day. She’s very attached to Yuuki for reasons that are explained later in the anime.
Satsuki Shinonome
Satsuki Shinonome is the main candidate that Yuuki’s running against. While she knows that Yuuki is running for president especially because of her, she still takes a liking to him. Her older sister is a teacher at the school and is the advisor to the club that Yuuki is in. Every time she sees him, her face noticeably lightens up from her usual stoic tone, and she walks up and calls him a nickname based on what he’s doing at the time.
Mifuyu Kiba
Mifuyu Kiba is Chisato’s and Yuuki’s good friend and fellow member of the Food Research Club. Due to illness, Mifuyu is a year behind in school. Mifuyu is quite frail and is not able to push herself that much. She supports Chisato’s love for Yuuki, even though it is shown that Mifuyu has feelings for him herself.
Isara Aomi
Isara Aomi is a student that’s assigned to help with Yuuki’s presidential run due to her status as a ‘financial aid student’. Due to her not being graced with generational wealth, she’s mocked for her status by those who’ll never have to work a day in their life. Her struggles influence Yuuki and the policies he pushes for. She takes a liking to Yuuki for standing up for her.
Michiru Morishita
Michiru Morishita is a shy and mysterious first-year student that’s part of the Food Research Club. Not that much is known about her until the end of the anime due to things I can’t explain right now. All I can say is that she’s fond of Yuuki.
An anime like this shouldn’t be scored by its plot itself. It’s the characters that make an anime like this what it is. The characters in this anime are quite nice, especially Satsuki (in my opinion). Luckily, Koichoco’s plot isn’t total garbage. I really enjoyed watching this anime. It’s not anything ground-breaking or amazing plot-wise, but it does a great job at what it’s supposed to be; an anime based upon a visual novel.

50/100Enjoyable characters with rushed development, and a very strange story.Continue on AniListVisual Novel adaptions always seem very difficult, and very rarely do I feel like they actually succeed in the end. The challenges facing them is just far too great. You have a long game, in this case 36 hours average according to VNDB, with a large variety of possible romance options and routes to take. And each route will further the story in unique and interesting ways, that are generally always important to the overall plot and story of the game. And in some cases they manage to make it work, maybe they focus on just a single character or pick the true ending route to adapt, or maybe give each romance option just 2 or 3 episodes so every route gets adapted. But unfortunately, whatever they tried to do for this show I don't think worked at all.
And honestly I don't know if this is so much the fault of the adaption, or a just a very seemingly strange story from the source VN. Sure the anime has many issues, the characters are good and enjoyable sure. But the actual character routes are pretty messy, and you have characters who have hours worth of development change in the course of minutes, or between episodes for real no reason. Outside of them needing to change to fit the next scene from the VN. And the romance that they finally choose to go with has any real development delayed very late into the show, and by the time it happens it doesn't really feel like it fits or makes all that much sense. Character motivations and backgrounds also ends up being really rough and cut completely or chopped up to allow it to fit the 12 episode count the show had. But I'd say in the end I enjoyed the characters enough, and that I don't really have any complaints about the characters.
My main complaint, or rather confusion maybe, is in regards to the actual plot of the show. For the first half of the show say, the plot is very simple and easy to understand. Sure it is silly and ridiculous, a club is trying to get somebody to become the next Student Council president in order to make sure their club doesn't have their budget cut. And it is filled with all the silly events that you would expect, and you never feel like it is missing all that much content that was important. Nothing major was cut is the feeling I'm getting at this point.
And than it all changes. Spoilers for various events in the show. Suddenly this school has secret service members who protect important people from unknown threats, you have an organization that has spies around the school monitoring people, you have students attempting to murder other students to hide secrets and maintain power, and people are getting kidnapped and threatened. And honestly I don't think any of this was nearly foreshadowed enough to suddenly start occurring in the second half of the show. You have events happening that don't match the silly school setting they have previously created. And the only thing I can think of, is this was supposed to be something very different. in some different version of this story this was a completely different setting. With completely different characters and tone. And for whatever reason they changed the story's setting to be a school.
In the end, I wonder what type of story and character development exists in the VN. I can't imagine that the VN feels so sudden or surprising when various events end up happening. But the only way I could know for sure is to play the VN and see for myself, and I can't say I'm not tempted simply to see how it goes.
