DESCRIPTION
After seeing enough death and tragedy, the immortal Fushi secludes himself on an island, defending himself from enemy Nokkers. However, instead of attacking Fushi in isolation, Nokkers begin targeting the settlements outside of his reach in hopes of luring him out. Soon, a group known as the Guardians—led by Hisame, the descendant of the deceased warrior Hayase—finds Fushi.
Inspired by how Fushi protected Janada Island from the Nokkers years ago, the Guardians have grown a considerable following and are recognized throughout the world. Initially reluctant, Fushi allows the Guardians to accompany him to the site of the Nokkers' recent attack. In their village, Fushi meets a few valuable allies, both new and old. But as the conflict with the Nokkers only leads to more loss, Fushi must find the inner strength to face his inevitable sorrow.

48/100It Loses Its Initial Slow-Paced Emotional Charm From The Previous SeasonContinue on AniListTo Your Eternity is known to many for its methodical, slow-paced story of Fushi’s growth and the despair he faced throughout his life. Unfortunately, Season 1 sputtered to a conclusion following an underwhelming final arc around the events of Jananda, which was more action oriented, and less gripping overall. Season 2 of To Your Eternity literally follows in the footsteps of that arc, as it continued to sputter through quite an underwhelming story, that has lost most of its original charm of slow paced storytelling. The new characters introduced are okay at best, with some being decent, and some being downright awful. The pacing is fast, like an action story, which in my opinion, is not what To Your Eternity’s charm ever was. It felt like a bunch of ideas mashed together, and it felt like the author ran out of ideas now that Fushi is basically just a normal human being now, albeit with world-changing powers.
The plot this season was quite a mess, to put it lightly. Season 1 was an emotional roller coaster, this season lacked most of those charms, and left me baffled at some of the writing decisions that potentially even took away from the emotional moments that we witnessed from Season 1. The timeskips are jarring, the pacing is zooming, and with that, I wasn’t nearly as invested. Fushi learning how to speak was interesting, but him getting every single overpowered skill known to mankind, enough to become an isekai protagonist, now that’s pushing it. With this type of shift, it’s only fitting that the entire season felt way more action oriented, and was less focused on what made Season 1 great, which was the emotional buildup and world building.
Perhaps a reason why the world building felt markedly weaker this season was also a product of the animation this season, headed by Studio Drive, a lesser known studio compared to the likes of Brain’s Base. The backgrounds felt very “static”, if you catch my drift. Very watered down compared to some of the shots that Season 1 provided.
Music wise, nothing to write home about either, and as much as I like “Pink Blood”, the OP, the fact that they reused it is so uninspiring. I’d much rather have heard an inferior OP to it than seeing it reused. The soundtrack was also quite forgettable.
Another huge drop off was the quality of the characters, none of which elicited any emotion out of me. Fushi, being all grown up now, just does not have any meaningful qualities anymore, besides containing the numerous vessels of presumedly dead characters from Season 1. He gets all these powers, he’s like God, but this isn’t the Bible we’re reading here, so being overpowered doesn’t mean a thing to me. A new addition to the cast is Bonchien Nikolai La Tastypeach Uralys (nice name, I know), and I will admit, I liked him, and his mannerisms, but as the series went along, his energy virtually disappeared, and so did my interest in his character, who felt so useless to the story.
A character that frustrated me a lot was Kahaku, a descendant of Hayase, who inherited every single creepy gene, who felt like a manipulative weirdo, trying to form Fushi’s vision of things into a way that benefits his obsession with him. The difference between Kahaku and Hayase seems to be only at a biological level, their gender. The relationships overall in this show befuddle me, because I don’t see how the sexual orientation of Kahaku matters, why let heteronormativity reign? Have some gall and just jump down the same path as Hayase did, regardless of what “gender” Fushi is assuming.
Simply put, To Your Eternity has gone in a completely different direction, and it hasn’t worked out, in virtually every aspect. It feels like an anime that has lost its identity, and is trying so hard to find one, but it’s constantly stuck in a limbo of deciding whether it wants to be slow paced, fast paced, emotional, or epic. There were definitely a few enjoyable episodes here and there, and the effort was there at times, but overall, it just wasn’t all that great, inheriting all the problems that the second half of Season 1 had, and then some.

90/100A very different feeling season and why thats ok: In Defense of s2Continue on AniListDISCLAIMER:
I am judging this season of the show based on it and the previous season not as an adaptation to the manga which I have not read and have no plans to so keep that in mind. Also theres SPOILERS!<<<<<<
Also changed the title, i didn't like the originalCONTEXT: (skip if you don't care)
I just made a review of Chainsaw Man which was very fun so I figured I wanted to do one for this too because I'm so fresh on it and the only review for it so far is not in it's favor (not throwing shade just stating how it is, their review is very good they just have a different pov so check it out) so I guess I'll be the only reviewer in its favor until someone whos better at making reviews writes one. Also for the last bit of context, I never care about punctuation, it just needs to be readable, i do these to share personal thoughts and Ik this goes without saying but do not take this as a personal attack on you if you don't agree, my standard is simply just different not better. Also please feel free to tell me how you feel or ask me anything on my account I promise I won't get mad even if I sound like it I promise I'm not its just hard to show tone through textDEFENSE OF CRITICISMS:
So you could call this the copium section or whatever but its basically just me defending the second season from common complaints I've had and seen. I'll start will the big one which is that the show loses its slower emotional charms, now to clarify this is definitely true I just don't see it as a downgrade but instead see it as an improvement, the first season often felt too slow with not enough payoff (still loved it). Like not trying to act tough but many of the more emotional moments and deaths didn't hit me or make me cry (except 1st ep and a few others) and I'm the type of person where you can list common shows and movies that made people cry and chances are and if I've seen it I probably cried too. I believe the reason for this is after several deaths you get kinda used to it and sort of expect it and some characters just didn't last long enough to get attached to. The other big, I've seen bounce around when people don't like season 2 is that the characters are bad and i gotta say... did we see the same season 1? Like not to sound sarcastic but like only a few characters stood out that season due to most of them dying too quick and being underutilized and they were all pretty one dimensional in comparison like they were either evil or perfect with few inbetween like take Kahak vs Hayase, Kahak has more depth he is not 100% good and perfect but he is not 100% evil either but with Hayase, they're just evil and honestly corny and unrealistically written. or take Gugu vs Bon, gugu is for the most part just perfect but while bon is still a good guy he also does bad things to Fushi like lie and use him. The characters this season got more going on with them and have more purpose they're by no means perfect but they're still leagues better.I CANT EVEN DEFEND:
So while this review is supposed to be positive, its not supposed to be biased and this season still has things I don't like. I'll start with my big one, too much damn fighting, like at a certain point theres so much action going on theres little room for the more intimate moments that the first season had more often and honestly the action overstays it welcome by the end even if it ends somewhat satisfyingly. Secondly, I DO NOT like when characters get to come back in anything much less this which I thought handled how Fushi had to deal with people's deaths due to his immortality was an interesting concept which they basically killed and it makes the characters deaths feel cheap its not too bad for me because while I found it interesting it also wasn't particularly well executed or utilized properly at least for me but it still hurts the show in a big way to where I can see why for some this alone could ruin the show for them.IMPROVEMENTS:
So this is just going to be for things I think this season did really wel that weren't part of the defense section. First, the actual story progresses a lot better this time, unlike last season, it never felt like it was moving too slow or just not moving, stuff was always happening but not too much that you don't know whats going on. Secondly, I like how this season discusses interesting concepts, like the idea of lying to someone to protect them and the morality of using someone even if using them is somewhat neutral or for self gain but not to hurt others and it shows that even good people can be selfish, the show never fully leans into these ideas but I kinda like that, it doesn't tell you how to feel about it, it just presents the idea to you and then you get to interpret it how you please, too many people and shows tell you exactly how to feel about everything so something being even partly left up to me is very satisfying. Thirdly, the show feels like it has a bit more direction where as for me season 1 felt almost as confused as fushi must have been, for this season characters last longer, conflicts actually build into bigger conflict and resolutions. For my final improvement, this is more a feeling than anything so take it with a grain of salt but the writing feels more confident; it plays more to its strengths, it doesn't attempt really hard concepts it can't properly do but doesn't stray from the ones it can, like I said this is just simply a feeling I had when watching but to throw a bone to those that were disappointed by this season I can see why this more confident writing feeling may actually be a downgrade for some because it admittedly traded some uniqueness for it.CONCLUSION:
I actually absolutely see both sides of the argument but I felt that the people who liked this season needed a bit of representation in the reviews and less people get pushed away due to the only one being negative and also so people can read just both sides, so I wrote in favor of the season. I truly feel that this season could either ruin the show for you completely or just not and thankfully for me it didn't but I understand why it does for many so if you watched season one and are on the fence about continuing for whatever reason, I would say try it but be ready for many changes and try to embrace them and if you simply can't thats ok too. Anyhows thats all, sorry if its a bit of a mess I'm writing this late and let me just say theres a lot more I could say and sort of want to but this review is already kinda long for me so if you have something you want to discuss, like I said before please send me a message
