91/100Unexpectedly a great read.Continue on AniListEver seen a type of manga that's decently popular, isn't formulaic, has over 100 chapters but still SOMEHOW doesn't have an anime adaptation! Well, this is the one! I have NO IDEA how this isn't more popular. I actually enjoyed reading this more than spy x family- that's how good it is! It also isn't afraid of killing off characters, but at the same time, it's not completely barbaric. The plot is slow but consistent, and the romance is really. I have no idea how a love triangle was written to be enjoyable, but here it is. This manga can go from gritty, psychological, and cruel... To mindless fun in an instant. I also love how deep it is, like it asks genuine questions. I had to stop like 4 or 5 times to try and decide if the main characters are actually good people.
The mystery aspect around Lyla is also pretty cool- I'm genuinely dying to know. I suspect it has smth to do with reincarnation or smth? Maybe? Also, one of the main great things about this manga is its... very special humor. I've seen Rita kill "HaNDSomE MeN tRYInG tO MaNIPULAte HeR" at least 50 times, yet it still manages to be funny. The character fights with this artstyle are really satisfied to read through- and the detail is not overdone so it's fun too.
The villains are really compelling- but I actually don't enjoy them that much. Maybe because we haven't learnt much about them. This is one of the weaknesses of this manga imo, it's balancing out the characters well- too well. I'd love to know more about the villains- but there's a heck ton of fighting and not a lot of actual progression. That's a niche thing though. The "villains" part can be refined as the progresses.
One other thing I like is that the fanservice is MINIMAL. Like, completely minimal. And considering it has romance in it, it really surprised me. I'd normally expect some kind of fanservice (and while i do believe there was a character like that for like one chapter), the mangaka seems to not be the type of person to put that much fanserivce.
Also, what about Hana's brother? Where's he? What about Natsuki's brother? There's no progression in that side story at all. This is one of my main critiques- the side characters' STORIES don't get as much attention. But they do remain fun to read, however. They're not "irrelevant", if you know what I mean.
Also, justice for Doug.
To conclude, I seriously did not expect this manga to be this good. This thing NEEDS an anime, it NEEDS it. And by a big studio too. Maybe I'm a bit biased, most people won't enjoy this manga as much as I did but damn it's good.
If you like reading Sakamoto days, this is must-read. MUST-READ.
Also, spoiler alert:
I'm still not over Luke's death man... Why did he have to die... Damn it...
