DESCRIPTION
Twintails: the glory of all mankind—or at least that is what first-year high school student Souji Mitsuka believes. At school, Souji spends most of his time daydreaming and rating girls' twintails, even going as far as creating a club dedicated to the hairstyle. His obsession does not go unnoticed, however; when monsters from outer space attack Earth and claim the world's twintails for themselves, a strange woman named Twoearle enlists Souji to fight back using twintails of his own!
By transforming into the twin-tailed warrior Tail Red, Souji combats the vicious alien organization known as Ultimegil, whose main goal is to colonize Earth and steal everyone's spiritual energy, or "attribute power." Alongside fellow twin-tailed fighters Aika Tsube and Erina Shindou, Souji must find a way to defeat the invading army and defend the twintails he holds so dear.

0/100An absolutely indescribable show made because someone had a niche fetish and spare moneyContinue on AniListOkay so. I don't know where to fucking start with this show. The plot is that some guy adores twin-tails, so a twin-tail-themed big booba woman comes to gift him a 'Tailgear', which allows him to transform into a tiny Magical Girl themed after twin-tails. She does this to fight against the alien empire who are coming to Earth to steal everyone's twin-tails. What
Meanwhile, his close friends who also have and like twin-tails (the TRANS GENDER only good character Aika Tsube and the yellow one who was a character and then turned into a different character and then turned into a fetish) become Twin-Tails too, while his mother tries to urge him to get some pussy because no way a dude like him is getting it otherwise, and the entire cast try to fuck him because uhhhhhhh.
This show is bizarre, and the only explanation for it was that it was written entirely by aliens and/or people insanely high on crack and other assorted hard drugs. Nobody else could write something like this. I couldn't even tell what genre it was supposed to be /at all/ until the last few episodes. Was it supposed to be a parody of normal Magical Girls stuff? There was a bit of that. Was it supposed to be a straight Magical Girl show just with comedy? There was also some implications that it wanted to take itself seriously. Was it supposed to just be fanservice? What the fuck does fanservice have to do with fucking /twin-tails/ out of literally everything? Literally what the fuck
The enemy faction each have their own fetishes. Like, every MoTW just gets his rocks off to something else and goes after humans to try and like. watch them do that thing. The first big boss loves twin-tails (duh) and idfk I forgot the rest they're all forgettable. The fetishes (cough) Affinities can also be inserted directly into the Tailgear to activate a special ability that sort of made sense with the source at first and then just became random shit. Like how the protag puts in a Braid Fetish Crystal and his friends are instantly freed from their 'unbreakable' wet dream wonderland worlds.
There is literally no proper main villain but the only human member of the fetish faction is really into glasses so her evil plot is to 1. fuck the big booba woman 2. apparently fuck the small child magical girl (who is only small, a child, or a girl sometimes)???????? 3. get the entire world into glasses because glasses are sexy. Okay.
I literally cannot understate how weird this show was and also how absolutely garbage. It had no direction. It very clearly had no idea what it wanted to be because even I can't tell what the fuck this show is supposed to be. Who was it made for. How many people have a twin-tail fetish enough to tune into late-night ecchi anime to indulge in it. What the fuck is going on. Did someone just have a fetish and write light novels about it and then the anime production company saw it and thought it was hot. What
I don't even know what to say about this show it's truly the strangest thing I have ever encountered there are no proper words to describe it at all. If you watch this while you're absolutely fucked off your ass on weed then you might think it's a little funny but in any other state it's something to just avoid

90/100Call that shit transformers the way it's more than meets the eye and also has Trans in the nameContinue on AniList"normal guy x overpowered magical heroine/s". A genre of anime popularize by Kinoko Nasu's Fate/Stay Night (who WILL burn in hell for all eternity dw) whose impact throughout the 2000s and even early 2010s was massive to say the least. Gonna Be The Twintail is neither that type or anime nor came out during this time period, so why do I bring this up? Apart from the excuse to shit on Nasu a bit, I do so because at a first glance Twintail might appear to be this exact type of show
However, it's far from it, and what might look like some ecchi action slop ends up being an order of magnitude deeper and more thought provoking than anyone could really expectDo you have a fetish for any sort of hairstyle, or clothing style, or body part, or anything of the sort? I believe most of us do, and our protagonist definitely does. A self-proclaimed expert/lover of twintails through a series of ridiculous circumstances is thrown into a Super Sentai like plot where he must use his affinity (cool word for fetish power) with twintails to transform into Tail Red, a twintail adored mecha girl, and defeat a variety of weekly monsters (The guildy) each with their own affinity towards something: Napes, flat chests, crossdressing, you name it, if it wasn't in the anime it's probably in the light novels
Now, when tackling a genderbender plot the question always arises on "why" are we trans'ing our characters, are we doing a quick joke without thinking too hard about it? Are we trying to thinly veil some deep insecurities? Or do we just have an extremely specific fetish?. This is exactly where Twintail shines, because it's a lil bit of everything. The transformation in any henshin hero show can mean a lot of things and in Twintails' case it's used to convey the show's primary theme of growing up and finding yourself and your sexuality
As I mentioned, through the 12 episodes of this anime we meet a bunch of these Guildy monsters, each with a specific affinity or fetish, usually relating to some body part or clothing style, with their leader having great affinity towards twintails, much like our MC. This could be a quick and dirty setups to do a different subgenre of ecchi every episode right? In this episode we dress up the girls with swimsuits, in this one there's tentacles, etc. Twintail however does much more than this, using this "affinity" as a way to explore our characters and how they interact with the world. Souji loves twintails yes, but why does he love them? Is he attracted to girls or just twintails? If he were to fall in love, how would he balance his fetish with that first burst of teenage love? When he turns into Tail Red, why does he become a girl? Does he have some level of dysphoria or does his love for this type of haircut run that deep? Souji isn't the only one who is faced with all these questions either, our tertiary heroine Erina also discovers herself, her sexuality and who she is through her transformation and her fights, and I'll leave it there bc if I go on I'd just spoil everyone's arc
Going back to the title of this review, while I don't think Twintail is necessarily a show with a trans character, I also can't say it isn't, I know people that point towards Twintail as their awakening or something that made them question who they are and that's fantastic because that's the whole point of the show!
Nobody's born with all the answers and nobody knows everything about themselves, the only way to find out is to try out, you'll be wrong sometimes sure but if you never try you'll always be wrong. There's this small arc later in the anime where Souji's transformation fails to go away and he's stuck as a girl for a while, and once again I repeat myself: What could have been just a throwaday joke and excuse for ass shots becomes kind of a beautiful epitome of the "discovering yourself" idea, a stretch of scenes of Souji learning more about himself, twintails, love, everything. I'm not sure how else to word it in a way that doesn't just spoil the show so uhh trust me :)In Conclusion. Gonna be the Twintail is fantastic. Funny, meaningful, well paced and an immense amout of earnest at developing its message, with the only real downside being that it's clearly a small part of a huge light novel that ain't ever getting a season 2 and some lower-end budget animation, far from a deal breaker really
An anime made because someone had a niche fetish, spare money, and most important of all: A passion for twintails
