70/100Kranke is DLC for the original series, and does its job well. Some sweet stories for fans of the first series.Continue on AniListNight Shift Nurses: Kranke is to the original Night Shift Nurses as a TV anime's OVA episodes might be to the original series. At least one of the three episodes in Kranke is noncanon, but all three involve the characters and settings from the first Night Shift Nurses series (unlike 2 and 3, which involve their own unique casts of characters). The content is no less extreme than the original, however, so squeamish viewers be warned: This isn't for you.
Writing: Because each episode of Kranke is essentially a standalone story and doesn't really have any room to blossom or develop, the plot aspect isn't as strong as it was in the original series. If you watched the original and enjoyed the psychological thriller aspects of it, you probably won't be quite as satisfied with Kranke... however, it remains true to the original in terms of style, content, and characters, and is not a bad entry to the series at all.
The first two episodes, involving the twins, Ai and Hikaru Kodama (the latter of which was prominent in the first series), are fairly typical of NSN. They don't involve any of the betrayal or ulterior motives that made the first series so gripping, but they fit in with the continuity and remain faithful to the general premise of the show: Doctor blackmails nurse, humiliates her, and brings out her inner libido.
The final episode is actually rather sweet--at least, relative to what you usually see in this series. It's a "what if" sort of story involving the home lives of Dr. Hirasaka and Ren Nanase, were they to marry and open a small family clinic out in the countryside. Of course, the doctor is still the doctor, and the episode still has its fair share of extreme content... but the episode is as nice and compassionate as the NSN series ever gets, which is refreshing.
Art: The art lives up to the same high standards as the first series. Everything is drawn realistically and vividly, and the animation is nice and fluid... as far as hentai goes, the Night Shift Nurses franchise as a whole has some of the higher-end production values, so viewers should not be disappointed with the visuals.
Sound: The sound also hasn't changed much from the original series. The cast, both English and Japanese, returns, and as with most hentai, the English dub is still terrible. The music, while nothing extraordinary, is pleasant enough and fits the tone of the show on all occasions.
Bottom line--this series isn't going to make a lot of sense to anyone who hasn't seen the original series. If you didn't like the original, you most likely aren't going to enjoy this any more, but if you were a fan of Night Shift Nurses, then hopefully you'll find this series of side-stories as entertaining as I did. It's reminiscent enough of its predecessor that one wouldn't likely notice if you were to consider these episodes 11 through 13.
Definitely a worthwhile watch for anyone who enjoyed the classic Night Shift Nurses. Everyone else? Not so much.
